Dell Inspiron 530S with whatever upgrades DS put added before the kids gave it to us. It was a Xmas gift from the kids. I'm very happy with it.

This is the second Toshiba laptop I've had. The first cost almost $4000, and this one was $699, and it works great!

Hubs and I each have a Dell desktop, and I also have a Dell laptop to take with us when we travel. Love them!

I have an HP laptop and an HP desktop. My last 3 desktops have been HP. DH has an emachine, because we could get it with XP on it instead of Vista.

We've always had Dells, going way back, and have been happy with them. But I'm thinking about getting a new computer this year, and my DS suggested I consider other possibilities. Dells tend to run a little higher than some other good brands, and that used to be worth it--when we were paying for Dell's excellent service.

I have the same computer you have wildchild. I had my daughter and son in law pick it out for me. So far I like it, just hate this dial up. Nothing else available yet out here.

I have IBMs in the office and an IBM here in my home office. But for personal use I had a Dell (after a couple HPs), still have it but it is on its last leg. I also use a Dell laptop, but wish I could afford an IBM.

None of the above. My son and I built my home computer. I had a Packard Bell before that. My work computers are IBM.

I had a Dell until last week. Husband and youngest daughter built me a new computer.

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I love it. I had a Gateway before. And before that, I had an iMac...and boy, did I hate that. My DH and DS both have Mac or Apple laptops, whatever they call them. LOL And DH has an Apple desktop also.

My very first computer was a Toshiba desktop and it was about $3000. We consider computers disposable, because they are so inexpensive now.

Dell PC and laptop. Love both of them.

Mine is a HP Pavilion. I'm happy with it. I don't have a lap top either.

I have 3 HP desktops (one is an 11-year-old Windows 98; one is an 8-year-old XP; the new one is Vista). I bought a Vista computer in March 2007 (when Vista first came out). It worked fine until November 2008. Then it died. I had--fortunately--taken out a 2-year service policy on it. So HP sent me a brand new computer, and even gave me a 2-year in-home service policy on it for free!!! You can't beat a company that does business like that.

I also have 3 HP laptops--a 15" and a 17". They are both XP. My next computer will also be HP. I should mention that the recent computer problem was the first time I have ever had any problem with an HP product. And in addition to computers, I also have 2 HP laser printers, 4 HP all-in-one printers, and 2 HP scanners. So their track record is excellent, IMO.

Dell here and loving it. 5 years old and not a cent spent on repairs.....

Tiger.com----DH has build up several computers over the years. Had a Dell, only lasted about 3 years when little things went wrong. Have HP printer and so far it is great. UPS likes to deliver all the stuff (some heavy), he jokes well which computer are you working on now!

We have the IMac, and we love it.

I have a Dell laptop and home and at work. I am retiring in 3+ months and I'm thinking seriously is buying a iMAC. They are far easier to use and the graphics and pictures are so much clearer. You don't have to have a big hard drive on the floor and the screens are nice and big.

We have Dells.

I'm on my 3rd build-a-box ( self assemblied) in 15 years. When my computer needs updating or part of it craps out, I replace the bad or outdated pieces with new and keep the stuff that's still good.

Last year, my I/O ports (to the disc drives including external devices) startd to fail. I rebuilt with an Asus mother board, added 2 new hard drives, and added updated faster memory compatible with the new mother board, bought a used machine for its very good CD/DVD reader/burner. I installed an updated processor and used the tower case from the purchased, used, computer.

Parts that were transfered from the old equipment to the rebuild were, 3.5 in floppy, 5.25 floppy, 3.5 in SuperDisk, 4 port USB-2 card, a card with a serial and parallel port, and the video card since it was relatively new. I now have a computer that's about twice as fast as the old machine with oddles of disc space. It has been running for 6 months without a problem.

The old hard drives were still ok, but have been relegated to future projects that do not require high reliability of the drives (These drives are well aged, you know). The old drives were kept intact for 3 months as a backup until the new system proved itself.

After the system was finished, I did not save much money, but had the satisfaction of building my own machine and to my specifications and needs. I could not have gotten all the features in a purchased, already assemblied computer. You may have noticed that I have maintained some compatibility to legacy software and storage medium. When a friend says to me, "I have some old data on floppies that I would like to achive.", I am able to copy his files to a more moderm media.

I did loose direct compatibility with an old DOS based finite element program, a structural analysis program, that I had, when I moved up to Win XP some time ago. I understand that it can still be done, but with a slew of tricks that I have not bothered to learn. At this point, I think that it would be about as effective to set up another computer and install an older Windows operating system to run the legacy structural stress analysis program. (It would cost me far too much to buy an updated version of this software, unless a fat comsulting job came my way that justified the cost.)

I am on my third HP. Nothing has ever gone wrong with them except what I caused. I went from W98 to Win 2000 and now Win XP. Probably won't go to Vista until I have to, and then it will be the......what is the name of the next one?

Also printers, copiers etc. have all been HP.

JemDandy...I love it when folks talk "dirty computer." LOL I just grinned trying to imagine everything you were talking about!

Our first computer was a Dell...Had it from 1997 until 2006 or 07. It was perfect, wonderful; I was Dell's biggest fan.

Then we got this Dell Dimension E520. I can't say enough bad about it. I'm trying to not swear and talk like a drunken sailor...so I can't say anyting.

It's been a horrible nightmare from Day 1 and Dell has not done one thing to help.

I chucked the printer/fax/copier POS that came with it and bought a beautiful $69 HP printer.

My new mantra is "Just Say No...to Dell."

It is encouraging to see so many satisfied Dell users here, though.

When my niece gets herself back in college, I'm buying her a computer. I'll use some of these suggestions to decided what to get her. Or, better yet, I'll just let her choose.

Two Toshiba Satellites (which I love) and one Apple (which he loves) Mine are laptops, his isn't.
