helou, Yes you are correct. I needed to first rip the boards from their original 4 inch width, down to about 3 inches to fit in the drawers. (or about 1 3/4 inched for the front section of the silverware drawer. Also once I had the boards the correct width, I needed to carefully cut the boards to length. Then to get the boards to the correct length a powered miter saw is the best option, but again depending on what tools you have available, maybe a hand-held circular saw and a speed square, or a miter box and a hand-held pull-saw. If you have a table saw, ripping the boards is trivially easy. If not there are probably a number of other ways to make the boards the correct width. (The easiest might be to find a friend with a table saw, and ply that friend with a bottle of wine, to cut them to width.) But you should also be able to do it with a straight-edge and a hand-held circular saw, or maybe even a straight-edge and a utility knife.

I guess everywhere is different. Here there is no city garbage pick up, although Ashley has it in a town 15 miles away. She pays for garbage pick up just like she pays for city water, she does not have a choice of services. They also have recycling, she has special bins for that and yard waste goes by the curb on a special day, it's included in her monthly garbage/recycling bill. Things like branches and leaves get ground up and then residents can get the resulting mulch at no cost to them. Here I have to hire my own garbage pick-up, I have my choice of 3 or 4 companies that do that. Recycling is free, but I have to take it to the recycling trailers and sort it myself. Not a problem, there are trailers clearly labelled and the bins include plastic grocery bags, milk bottles (no lids), newspaper, office paper and magazines, glass (again, remove lids) clear plastic, colored plastic, cardboard, styrofoam, metal. All items must be clean, no food residue. If the item can be washed, it can be recycled, if it can't be washed (like cardboard boxes) and contains food residue, it can't be recycled. Some plastic bags were accepted for a while, now none of them are other than the plastic grocery bags. No place for yard waste, we can still burn leaves and branches curbside, which I hate, nice days in the fall you about get smoked out of your house by all the neighbors burning leaves. Compost is something I do myself. As I said, most kitchen scraps become chicken food, the few things that I can't take there get added to my "compost pile" at the farm and is then spread on the garden the following year. The compost pile consists mostly of the contents of the calf pens and chicken coop which I let compost for a year before using. Annie

This thread became resurrected when I was googling around for a substitution for Coco liners.. they were dirtying up my house and deck.. Plus the birds love to make nests out of the liners and pull the liners apart all over the place.... So this particular thread popped up ....and I'm glad it did.. But now when the comments pop up in browser form I have to go through the entire thread to receive the latest comment. Any way around this?something tells me this is a dumb question .

Hi, Wow. Thank you so much. Thank you for listening and advising and thank you for the details. ajsmama, I don't think I found any Contact paper without adhesive. I need to look at WalMart again. Here's what I did today, though: I went to Home Depot, again, and bought....... do not laugh . . . . vinyl floor remnants - pre cut remnants (yes, that is linoleum), with a backing, not very thick, 6' x 8' (I think) for $22. I remembered that I had used left-over vinyl 20 years ago for under the sink and for the major pots and pans cabinets. And it was still whole and not too yukky when we changed out the cabinets 6 weeks ago. So, I'm going to use that for the underneath spots and some pull outs. Then I went to Joann's and they have a HUGE assortment of stuff- all kinds of vinyl- didn't see cork-- cork was expensive at Home Depot, though, and with a backing. Anyway, I was all set to buy my vinyl stuff for the normal, not heavy duty places -- and the lady asked me if I had THE COUPON..... of course I didn't. She said it was 40% off of a fabric cut. So I went home to look for it and only found a 20 % coupon.....etc etc etc The quest continues. Vasue, thank you so much. I have to look into the cork more in detail tomorrow. I'll tell you one thing, KCboom, my cabinet shop (local one in Tucker GA) had never been asked about the lacquer issue....I think nobody lines cabinets around here. The Home Depot guys are not aware of it either and neither was I until I bought a bunch of awesome spongy white liner stuff at Lowe's and I was about to use it 2 days ago when I actually read the package label and saw the warning.....If so many people have varnish and lacquer (?) then why aren't there more liners for it? Ok. Tomorrow is the backsplash and the heavy sanding of the family room wood which had to be pulled out and re-installed because of so many worm holes. The backsplash and floor were not supposed to coincide, but hey, things happen. At least they do with us. good night and thank you.
