36' range plus wall oven vs. 48' range with dual ovens?
Comments (4)We had the 36 foot (HAH) AG Wolf in our last house. We loved the unit and space up top but did often run out of burner space. The 36 inch oven was nice and held a lot which was great as long as we were cooking things at the same temp which we rarely ever did. Next, that oven took forever to preheat... 40-45 minutes to 400. Lastly, we think b/c of its huge capacity, it cooked really hot. I think the burners had to run a lot to keep it at temp which over cooked bottoms of breads etc. Great for roasts and some other things but not for breads, cookies, pastries etc. In the end though, we were VERY pleased with the Wolf. We adapted to the hot temps by using additional pans for heat shields and adjusting the temps. In our current house, we went with a 60 inch AG Blue Star range. It has 2 30 inch ovens, 8 burners and a grill. We also put in a Wolf 30 inch wall oven. The preheat on all 3 ovens to 400 is about 15-20 minutes. The first cookies and corn bread we did in the gas ovens. They were better than in the 36" Wolf but still cooked pretty hard. Next time I did corn bread, I thought, Oh yeah, I've got the wall oven and used it... a world of difference. Since then we have done biscuits and other items and they come out perfectly. We still find the gas is great for roasts, casseroles, reheating etc. We may have a bit of over kill, but due to advice from this forum, we specifically diversified to both gas and electric and have been very pleased. So, my recommendation? The 48 inch AG range AND an electric wall oven. Oh yeah, the grill on the BS is killer. I got talked into it as a last minute decision and thought I would use it occasionally. We have used it a fair amount so fay and it does a killer job on veggies and chicken. We have elected to limit the grill to those items only. Beef and fish are too messy and when we grill those, its always outside (so far). I have found a griddle plate that fits nicely over the grill to convert it to a griddle when needed....See MoreNeed the experts: Thermador package, SubZero Wolf ?
Comments (8)I have Thermador fridge, freezer and 2 DWs and Wolf rangetop and ovens. I checked out the Thermador rangetop and really had no problem with the burners. The clicking only comes into play if you are using the super low simmer, and I don't use that on the Wolf unless I am walking away from melting chocolate (otherwise the regular lowest setting is fine) or have something very delicate simmering and that's not my usual cooking style. Most people aren't going to use it very often to begin with. If you would, then you need to check one out and see if it would bother you for yourself. I have called both companies and dealt with customer service -- Thermador only for a question or ordering replacement filters (they are actually cheaper form the company so once a year I order a couple). I've never encountered a problem or rudeness. I have had my Wolf ovens replaced -- twice. I consider the new ones still in their testing period. Everyone says it is a rare Wolf that will have a problem and I figure that is about my luck. The folks at the company couldn't have been nicer or the service much better, so I really don't have a complaint with them. This oven preheats much faster than the one I originally had, so I've come out ahead on that. I may not be any help, but I can't guide you away from either company. But I do love the Thermador fridges better than what SZ had at the time. If I had to have a one company package, that might have done it for me. ;-) Neither one is going to be a bad choice....See MoreWolf Steam Con Oven plus a single wall oven, has to be Wolf too?
Comments (20)I went to see the Miele CSO and oven last Friday, and I really like the CSO especially it being plumbed the the XL is big enough. The interface is great, perfect for anyone that's new to steam ovens. The regular oven is pretty much just fine. However, I still like the Wolf's look more, Miele is more modern clean look while Wolf has more rounded edges and the warmth feeling to it...I know that's so superficial LOL! One thing I am curious is, the sales guys at either Pacific Sales or Pirch all told me they would recommend Wolf, even though Miele is a superior product. I wonder if they get a lot more commission when they sell Wolf?? Also, the sales guy said if I get Miele, it's best to get the Miele installation because Miele will double the warranty makes it 2 years instead of 1. Did you get that too?...See MoreWall oven/speed oven combo: bosch 800 vs. GE Monogram vs. Wolf/Miele?
Comments (19)@Amy Cantu We've been in our house for 6 mo now and I really like the GE Monogram oven. I haven't actually used the speed oven functionality of the speed oven. Just the microwave. And even then, we just use the add 30 sec option. I need to sit down with the manual and experiment with it. Unfortunately, using the speed oven is not as simple as just turning it on. It's pretty complex. I remember when I tried the speed oven at my friend's house it was really hard, and I thought I'd need to dedicate some serious experimentation to getting it to work for me, and doubted that I would ever bother using it as an oven except for Thanksgiving, which hasn't happened yet. My motivation to learn how to use it has been even less than I expected, so I'm sorry to say I can't report back. I also haven't tried using the oven probe functionality for the oven (haven't cooked a roast yet). Need to find the oven probe along with the speed oven manual! But I have done a ton of baking and roasting of vegetables and have been pleased. We were living in a rental house with a viking range and the GE monogram oven is 1000x better than whatever model of viking oven came with the range in the rental. Much more even. I've done two cakes side by side and they came out beautifully without the need to rotate. With a sheet of cookies I notice that sometimes a corner might brown a little quicker than another corner, but not so much that I really need to worry about rotating the pan halfway through. Broiler also works great--I've been making a lot of toast to go with steak tartare and an entire pan filled with toast toast 100% evenly under the broiler--hooray!...See MoreFori
