I have a carpet cleaning business, which means that I'm in a lot of homes, & see a lot of different decorating styles. Where carpeting is concerned, I find that places with the same carpeting throughout the house generally also have the same decorating style throughout, & it's often just - well, to me anyway - boring Later model homes, little imagination displayed, not a lot of life. (disclaimer: this is not ALWAYS the case, but I find that it is common) The other side of the spectrum is lots of different, non-neutral colors on the carpets - usually, (again, not ALWAYS) the carpets are older & not expensive - often so old they are borderline in needing replacement - & there's a mishmash of styles & personalities showing through. Sometimes it works wonderfully, but usually only when there is a very creative person living there. Not so easy to pull off. What works best, in my experience & opinion, is neutrals that work together, but not all matching. Maybe the master in one color, the other bedrooms in another. Different floors, different carpets. Area rugs are where you can bring in the colors. With the neutrals you have room to be creative, or safe - whatever makes you comfortable. Carpet can be a very expensive & long-lasting choice - the one thing I do recommend is buy the very best you can afford - it's an investment! Have fun choosing :)

The room has a cathedral ceiling and white crown molding. The lighting is interesting because mid day it is very bright due to the arched large window on outer wall. Currently the walls are Duron Cypress Green before adding new chairs etc. (http://www.myperfectcolor.com/en/color/43712_Duron-4915A-Cypress) To me this would work but it is a dated green IMO. The master bathroom connected also with vaulted ceiling currently has a taupey wall paper white tile etc. Also will be updated soon. At night time the Cypress goes almost black except where the lamps are turned on or if overhead fan light is on still very dark at night. The colors in the chair are hard to capture on the computer screen When I look at it the colors that "jump" off are the darker blues and burgundy. I thought Blue would br a safe choice. I also like Jamestown Blue which the ligher blue seems to be.

I love those pictures with the beautiful curtains. But looking closely at my room, I'm not sure I have room for sheers to the side of the windows. The space between the window trim and room corners is not very big. If I do do curtains, would I only do them over the window behind the love seat? Not around the two windows on the wall with the bed next to the night stands right? I am definitely going to move the art. Building for the CATS, that bedding is very pretty! The lamps are also very nice... but would I have to get an electrician? I'm not sure I want to get into that... I had an electrician come last year and move a plug 12 inches in my media room and it was very difficult, time consuming, and costly b/c of the way our attic is constructed. nosoccermom, I do like the glass table, some of those overstock ones look nice. They might pick up the color of the little birds in my other table. I really like the idea of the ceramic garden stool too and I'm looking for one that would pick up the sofa colors... ingrid, not too critical at all. I do like a cozy bedroom :) k9arlene I will look for lamps... maybe blue ceramic from the prior suggestion. Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I am on the hunt for bedding now!

You might want to look up early 1900s color schemes from the Arts&Crafts movement - aka Craftsman or Mission style (sorta).C... just for inspiration, you wouldnt have to go full-blown A&C in your decor or anything. What you have in mind sounds very sympatico. Those styles all were a reaction from the stuffy fussy Victorian era, and emphasized natural materials like stone and wood and took inspiration from colors from nature. You know - you do have quite a nice color scheme already picked for you in your stone work. Do you like that stone? Im seeing some nice blue grays, browns, gold-browns and the mortar beige of course.
