Lori, you know the history we have with Brian. Of all the many drugs he has been prescribed, it is the only one he can not take. He had the most incredible hallucinations from it. It sent me running form his room, because I was sure he had lost his mind. Now that was early on after his accident, and I don't know the dose, so maybe it isn't common. I don't want to alarm you, but if you take it, please do it when someone is there with you.
I came on tonight to see if you had posted, since I have been missing a few days. The last I read was when you were playing bumper cars on the interstate. Is the knee injury due to that or what? I was worried about your back and neck, so I must need an update! LOL

I don't know anything about Flexeril, but I just wanted to make the following comment(s)...

The only time I ever got prescription meds from Mexico was in 1986, when hubs and I were in Puerto Vallarta. I had been trying to be oh so careful not to drink the water when we were away from our hotel, but I had unwittingly been consuming unfiltered water by having ice in my sodas. Yep, I ended up with a nasty case of Montezuma's Revenge and had to seek medical attention. The doc wrote a prescription for two meds and I had no choice but to get them from a pharmacy across the street from the hotel. They were fine, and fixed me up in no time.

BUT, it is my understanding that the industry is not regulated anywhere near as well as in the US when it comes to cleanliness of the facilities where the medications are manufactured, etc. Some things I'm just not willing to risk on a normal basis.

As for your doc prescribing something that is available over the counter --- Often after a medication has been available for a while with no ill effects or major disasters, if the FDA feels that the general public could benefit from it being more readily available, they will then approve it for OTC status, but usually in a lower dosage. An example would be Zantac. Prescription strength was 150 mg per tablet, and the OTC version was 75 mg. Now enough time has passed that you can get 150 mg per tablet in the OTC version. So, maybe your doc prescribed a higher dosage?

Or, maybe your insurance won't cover it if you get it OTC but it will cover it when it's prescribed.

We have several friends that go to Mexico and get their meds.for about half what they cost here.Most are made by the same companies that make them in/for the US.None of the people I know have ever had a problem with them.
I ordered Armour thyroid medication from an online Mexican Pharmacy a few years ago without a prescription.Same stuff as from the pharmacy here that charged 3 times as much!
I am surprised you could get Flexreril without a prescription.DD's doctor prescribed that for her a couple of weeks ago when she fell off the horse.Only gave her 20 pills and when she called for a refill she told him they did about as much good as candy.LOL He prescribed Soma,which is an older drug,not used much anymore but she said they worked great.Some meds that are restricted to prescriptions only here may not be in Mexico.I don't think they have to answer to the FDA.

DH priced his bp medication down in Mexico a few years ago. We had good insurance so the Mexico drugs were a little more expensive. We weren't serious about trying the drugs. We were just curious.

It'd depend on what it was, but I'd possibly be willing to chance it if it weren't some newer model drug that the drug industry wanted to try out on us guinea pigs.

I hear ya Cathy. Reading the side effects of this drug are rather alarming but then most all are. Most times what is wrong is far less than what the side effects will be! I haven't filled the prescription yet but I will be careful when I take it. Percoset is too much for what I need and it has always made me feel hungover when it wears off. I just don't like it but I need something to take the edge off at the end of the day.

I'm have some problems with my left side from the neck to my shoulder blades and into my hip. This is the leg with the artificial knee.

The patrolman was surprised I did not hit the steering wheel after the two 'bumper cars' rammed me. I did NOT hit the steering wheel with my upper body or face because I was standing, with both feet, on the brake pedal to get shut down before ramming into the car in front of me. I was braced solid literally from the toes up so the jolt was especially hard. I laughed the next day about have sore tootsies and ankles.

I am concerned about my the artificial joint The area of the femur were the rods were placed are very sore and swollen. The leg looks much like it did when it was crooked. The inside of the thigh is sore to the touch. There is also some grinding in the joint itself...not painful but alarming and occasionally the knee will give way slightly. I need to get this checked out and fixed if there is a problem! I had to cancel today because of the storm but will go back next thursday. I'll ask about a recommendation for the neck and back problem.

Canada's a lot closer than Mexico.

Back when there was premium on US Dollar exchange, people from nearby states used to come up here by the busload to get drugs - legit ones, that is ... not the green stuff that they try to slip over the border through the mountains in B.C. Well, maybe that, too (but not by the busload!) ... but we didn't hear about it on TV (till there was a bust!).

Now that the currencies are more or less at par, much of the price advantage has been eroded, but I think that there is still a certain advantage in price levels here.

My problem would be that I would not want to buy powerful chemicals to put into my precious, irreplaceable body from an unknown source. Especially over the internet, for the recipient has no idea of who the sponsor, or even the service provider may be, let alone the regulations regarding manufacture or compounding or even conditions under which the drugs were manufactured.

Maybe the sender runs off with your money and you get nothing.

Maybe you get a bunch of sugar pills ... which might be of some value, if you believed so!

Maybe you get some of more or less the right kind of drug ... but how can you be sure of quality? quantity, including precision of amounts per pill? cleanliness of plant (no floor sweepings in the pill)?

Maybe, along with, or instead of, the real thing, you get other stuff that might tend to encourage addiction. Or cause other temporary, or permanent, damage ... even death.

I'd want to be certain of the integrity of both supplier and product.

If manufactured in Canada, regulations are very comparable to U.S. standards.

I heard from a pharmacist (former colleague in foreign missionary/development/refugee work) a while ago that the pharmacist here has to see the person with the prescription. But I think that a foreign-origin prescription is acceptable.

I had a connection with one of the internet-based prescription providers some time ago, but have lost contact info.

Could do some checking, if you wish.

I hope that you haven't suffered any permanent or long-term damage and are feelng a lot better soon. Also that they don't have to go digging around in that leg, again.

P.S. I've received a lot of spam, including drug stuff, also offers for goods that are supposed to enhance certrain male body parts. When I try to send a "Reply" ... I often get a message from a service provider saying that there's no such person/address. When I attempt to go directly to the service provider through which the originating message came, I get only a page allowing me to unsubscribe.

Many advisors say to not answer such, for in most cases that shows the spammmers that yours is a live address ... which can be sold for more, so you end up getting a bunch more spam (not the Monty Python kind!).

Bob used to take Flexeril but one time it had the opposite effect on him that it was supposed to. It tightened his mucscles so much that he was in agony. That is a sign of taking too large a dose. He said he was positive he took the right amount. He went a few days without using any after that. When he tried it again the same thing happened. We found out he had become allergic to it.
