Sometimes I do upper...sometimes lower...sometimes both. But never lipstick. Ever. There is something in lipstick that gives me a scratchy throat. Oh...and me not having an upper lip is another reason. So, I guess the cabana boy won't care for me too much. LOL

I gave up liquid eyeliners in the 1960s. I use eyeliner pencils, usually in a soft, smoky grey, upper and lower. If I do just the lower I tend to resemble Minnie Mouse. :-)

I seem to be . . . um . . . overly supplied with lipsticks. I have fun buying the Free With Purchase versions of expensive lipsticks on eBay. I love "off" shades, nothing bright. I often wear deeper shades if I go out at night. My favorites seem to rotate. Right now the two that are getting quite a bit of daytime use are Venus, a semi-sheer mauvey-pink from Almay, and Clinique's Glow Bronze, a shimmery beige.

Eyeliner and lipstick are the only makeup products I use.

I have very deep set eyes so I rarely wear eyeliner but I have always read that we "older" ladies should only line the upper lid. It gives a bit of a "lift".

I also think that frosty anything just doesn't work well on most women in their mid 40's or certainly over 50.

Personally I think a medium to darkish pink or mauve creamy lipstick looks best. I only use matte eyeshadow because the frost just highlights the crepiness.

I find it very strange that light reflecting make-up is being marketed to the middle aged woman today. When doing theatrical make-up and trying to age a person the first trick is use highlight on the fleshy areas of the face in order to give the illusion of deeper creases elsewhere.

Want to look younger? Less is more. Sheer foundation,sheer cream blush and matte shadows and pinky lipstick. Minimal frost. JMHO

I use liner on upper and lower eyelids.Start in the center of the eye,smudging it as you go with short strokes and bring it out to the corner.Use a brown pencil like an eyebrow pencil.Black is too harsh,especially on us "older" ladies and those of us who have silver or white hair.LOL Don't care for liquid liners at all and never have.
As for lipstick colors that make us look younger,I think whatever compliments your skin tone is best.I personally don't look good in pink lipstick! I wear a mauvie beige color all the time.Shimmery or frosted ones are a no-no.Less is more as we get older.I think the best look for an older woman is a more natural look.Trying to look "younger" just makes one look fake and most of the time doesn't work! LOL

Glad to hear pink lipstick is back in style ! I prefered to wear it even when it wasn't but it was so hard to find. Everything was brownish or too dark for me.I don't wear any eye makup. Not that I don't want too but several years ago I got a bacterial eye infection which I blamed on mascara.

You should throw away your mascara after six months at the longest (cosmetic companies sometimes even say after only three months), and start using a new tube (or whatever type of container it comes in).

And never, ever, let anyone else use your mascara.

I went out to breakfast with some girls I went to school with.

Two of them had eyeliner on. and one had light pink lipstick...

The one with the lightpink lipstick and the eyeliner (on the top and a little on the lower , just from the outer corner about half way in then kind of blended.
She looked so young and pretty the other two looked like me....about 63 years old...LOL

So there you have it...I don't think older women should wear med to darker lipstick...it follows their wrinkles and makes them show up more.

Funny you should mention this. I teach preschool. One of my students told me that her mom got a tattoo on her eye. So, when Mom picked her up, I had to inquire. Mom is a flight attendant. Turns out she had permanent eyeliner placed on her eyes (tattoos, I guess). She said all the flight attendants do it. I admit I was intrigued, because I'd love not to have to apply my eyeliner everyday, but tattoos on the eyes?????

My lips are very full, so I don't look good in dark lipstick. I try to choose something in a medium shade.

LOL that eyeliner is out. Not around here!

I use a cake eyeliner on the upper lid, sometimes smudge a dark shadow on the lower lid, sometimes use a pencil. I have tried a lot of lipsticks, trying to find one that will last and will not make DH end up wearing it too. I love Maybelline's Forever Lipcolor. My favorite shade is Berry.

I agree with Lindsey on the mascara. It should be replaced with a new one every 6 mo. (if it last that long) I need a new one now, but have to wait until I go to Omaha. Our town doesn't carry Eliz. Arden. or Clinique.

Tattooed Eyelids, Eyebrows and Lips are very popular now. But, my friend with the Tattooed Lip liner looks freaky. Sorry! I didn't ask about it, but you can tell when her lipstick wore off.

I use eyeshadow applied with a thin liner brush under my eyelids and over the eyelids just at the outer corners. I don't wear Mascara most of the time.

About replacing the mascara....I don't keep mine very long because my eyes water a lot...and I blame that on old mascara..So if my eyes seem to be watering more that usual I get new mascara in a hurry.

My eyes drive me nuts.

My doctor says, Oh I think it's just dry eyes...and gave me a bunch of oily samples...then all I had was oily watering eyes...didn't help at all.

I need to go someplace for another opinion.

Intherain, one of my staff got permanent eyeliner as her 40th birthday gift. She loves it and I understand why. It would make life much easier....but I would hate going thru the agony. I am a coward.

I wear eyeliner daily but recently had to give up the liquid from Lancome. I have used it for years and years but they must have changed something in the formula because now my eyes tear and the eyelashes on one eye fell out!

No, I could not get my eyebrows, lids, lips, cheeks permanently done!

A friend of mine did a full lip tatoo of color..they just "up'd" her natural color..
I know a few woman with eyeliner tatoos and lip liner..but the lip girl had it done dark..so she looked hideous when wearing lip gloss!

Pencil and eyeshadow liners disappear on me after a few hours..basically all that's left at the end of the day is mascara.(Alhtough I haven't tried liquid.)I pitch out my mascara about every 3 months..once it starts to drop "shadows" it's in the trash.

My favorite lip stuff is Avon's Glazeware in Berry Cool. It's a neutral mauve with a bit of shimmer.

I line both top & bottom. What irks me is the high price of liner pencils and the last one I bought didn't even twist up for more "lead'. It was just about 1/4" and was used up in aout a week. I used to buy Maybellene Expert Eyes pencils, but haven't found them for a while. Dottie

If I actually put on make-up (which is only a couple times a week), I line the top, and sometimes a little on the bottom. I have small eyes so if I wear to much eye make-up it looks bad.

I had both my eyes and lips tattooed about 3 years ago. I love both. My lips now have an edge to them. With the cream she put on my eyes it wasn't too painful. The pain when she did my lips was almost too much. My lips are the shade of my natural lip color.

I wish I could line my eyes, but I blink and make wavy lines or a big mess. It's just so hard, but I think I would look better with it.
