HI ALL..SO GLAD TO HAVE FOUND YOU..I NEED HELP..WE JUST MOVED INTO A NEW CONSTRUCTION COLONIAL..WE HAVE A SEMI-OPEN 1ST FLOOR WITH THE KITCHEN BEING THE CENTER OF THE HOUSE AND ENCLOSED ROOMS SHOOTING OFF FROM IT(IE: FAMILY ROOM ON RIGHT SIDE..DINING IN FRONT OF KITCHEN ..AND FORMAL LIVING ROOM TO FRONT LEFT.. HERES MY PROBLEM: THE BUILDERS PAINT IS ALL OVER KITCHEN IN PALE BUTTERCUP YELLOW/WHITE..THE DINING ROOM HE PAINTED IN A SAGE COLOR WHICH WE WILL KEEP..THE FAMILY ROOM WE WANTED TO WARM UP SINCE IT IS VERY LARGE AND RECTANGLULAR SO WE PAINTED IT AMERICAN TRADITIONS(LOWES) FAINT MAPLE WHICH CAME OUT A TAD TO DARK AS I WAS GOING FOR A CAFE AU LAIT LOOK AND IT IS MORE MILKY CHOCOLATE..BUT I LIKE IT ALRIGHT SINCE WE HAVE VERY LARGE WINDOWS WITH WHITE MOULDING.. NOW HERE IS MY QUESTION..WE WOULD LIKE TO PAINT THE KITCHEN BUT WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THERE IS A FLOW FROM ROOM TO ROOM..WITH THE FAM. ROOM MAPLE, THE DINING ROOM SAGE, WHAT COLOR SHOULD WE PAINT THE KITCHEN AND ITS ADJACENT HALLWAYS SO THERE IS FLOW?..LET ME MENTION THAT THERE IS A BATHROOM AT THE END OF THE HALL WHICH IS A DEEP AQUA/TEAL LIKE BLUE, VERY PRETTY WITH WHITE BEADBOARD..AND I WANTED TO PAINT THE LIVING ROOM IN A PALE BLUE BECAUSE IT IS SORT OF A POTTERY BARN/CAPE COD NEW ENGLAND LOOK WITH A HUGE CLAIRE MURRAY CAPE COD RUG.. I LIKE LIGHT COLORS BUT NOW WITH THE FAMILY ROOM AND THE DINING ROOM COLORS I AM AT A LOSS..I AM GOING FOR A FARMHOUSE/COTTAGE/POTTERY BARN/RESTORATION HARDWARE LOOK FOR THE HOUSE..YOU GET MY POINT.. I was surprised to see your name attached to a layout post! Another kitchen to plan...Fun! Even for my family, this plan is BIG. Lots of walking. It's really nice, but I'm not sure I'd want it this spread out. But I love it, too. As you can tell, I'm waffling. ;-) I'm not comfortable with the stove location, as it seems to be somewhat of a walk-through area and the island isn't oriented well to be prep space. If the stove were on the back wall behind the island, it would be great in relation to the island and prep work area. Your aisles are too wide for me! With the stove behind the island, I'd snug them closer together, for easy prep-and-turn. The widest aisles in my kitchen are 4 ft, and I wouldn't want them wider, especially where I work on both surfaces to each side at once. Maybe this is all too specific for where you are in the process right now. Will your local building code/regulations allow this many windows? Ours wouldn't. Have you thought about things like where groceries will come in, etc?

This is also just my taste speaking, but I would not use the valance and would use much fuller curtains. The room has potential but looks a bit "grandmotherly". Everything seems a bit formal and static. I'm missing the personal touch, the display of items that you love. Are the paintings ones you love or just what you thought would look "right" there? I would opt to have a group of smaller paintings on one wall, again to break up the formal and static feeling. The bones of the room are good, great windows and floors, but if this were my room I would want it to look more relaxed and welcoming. The flower arrangement by the window looks very stiff. Please forgive me if I sound too critical, because I don't want to hurt your feelings in the least, but since you asked I wanted to be honest. The placement of the chandelier has already been addressed by others. Good luck and have fun with playing with this space a bit. You might try looking through magazines to see what rooms really appeal to you and "borrow" some of their ideas.

I am intrigued by the Acostic White. It has an LRV of 84 so quite reflective which would help in this pretty low natural light space. It is in the Yellow -cool hue family so it would potentially work well with carpet and be less creamy than the other choices. It also has a good bit of Chroma which means “graying” so might be worth trying.
