Val:
I couldn't find an ounce measure right now, so I used a Tablespoon.

I have 2 size scoops.

One holds 1 Tablespoon.
I use this for measuring out the batter for Pizzelles and
small meatballs for Italian Wedding Soup.

The other holds 3 tablespoons.
This one is used for Measuring out Larger meatballs and
Dipping Ice Cream.
Also when I make the School of Fishes.

For Fish Cakes I do a double scoop.

Put some water into a liquid measuring cup, make a cookie the size you like it, drop it into the cup and note the displacement.

I have various dishers from a restaurant supply store and from other random stores. While I use them for several things like portioning meatballs, pancake batter, etc. I find them fairly unsatisfactory for cookies - at least chocolate chip cookies. Reason being, the thick batter is too much resistance for the "sweeper" and I end up skipping gears.

I would not recommend buying one without having one in hand to perform a simple test: Pinch the sweeper tightly with one hand and give the handle a FIRM sqeeze with the other. If that skipped a gear, so will cookies, cold ice cream, etc.

INOX is the brand I got from the supply house. The others don't say, but the design is identical.

The one I use for Chocolate Chip and Oatmeal cookies is a white plastic one, bought at Michael's several years ago.
It doesn't have a number on it like the Farberware ones do nor a brand name. It is just slightly larger than the Farberware #50. It holds just under two tablespoons of water. It makes a nice, generous sized cookie, which is how we like them.

It's 'measured' a LOT of cookies over the years, and is still going strong, no skipped gears (which appear to be some sort of nylon) or anything.

Thank you! I took a chance and ordered #40 7/8oz., hope it scoops without grinding gears. It's 18/8 stainless so should be strong.

I also ordered:
2 100 sheet packs of pre-cut parchment paper 12"x16"
8 pot holders - the old kind wih silver silicone quilting that you can't find in stores any more
4 2oz salt/pepper shakers, glass and 18/8 stainless tops
1 4" square stainless egg ring (fried egg sandwiches are a weekend favorite)

All that for $49.31 including tax and shipping. Not bad!

Hi again yau'll:
I had my scoopers about 40 years, no problems.
They have metal gears, all SS 18/8.
Forget where they are from.

The small one made by Polarware Co.,is 1/2 ounce +, 18/8 SS
The larger is by Farberware no #. Holds 3 oz.

Thank you, Hawk! The one I ordered looks like the bottom one in your pic. May I have the luck that you have had with it!

Do you use either of them for cookies?

No, just pizzelles.

The gear system on mine look like Lou's upper one. It's extremely frustrating to have to fix these repeatedly mid use. But based on this thread I'm the only one who has this problem, so maybe I just have had bad luck. (But with ALL of them?!) Anyway good luck to you!

FOAS:
Might need just a minor adjustment???

I know !!! your saving all these ditties, hoping I will come over and help you with them.LOL !
