Anyone have a Rest. Hdw. upholstered bed?

Does anyone here have a upholstered bed from Restoration Hardware? I found that they have reduced the prices on their beds online--I would be able to get a bed in the upgraded velvet fabric in queen size for $1595. I like the Latham style:

I have been wanting a upholstered bed forever, but hardly ever see them in the stores around where I live (New Orleans area). I have seen them on Overstock and other places, but I'm hesitant to order something like that online. I feel like if it comes from RH, at least the quality should be halfway decent. Anyone got an RH bed? Or do you know where I could find something comparable someplace else?

Room and Board has some upholstered beds; may not require box spring.

I swear I think they have one of their upholstered beds on display at Lakeside. I'm not sure it's the one you want, but...at least you could look at the overall construction. Some RH stuff I think is great, other stuff not so great and the prices are the same - high. I don't know why I am always in that store - it's like being inside the belly of a whale since they repainted it - because not a darn thing they have would ever fit in my living room where a 9x12 rug becomes "wall to wall carpeting"! :-)

As an aside, Ballard Designs also does upholstered beds and I've got to imagine the price is better and I've always been pleased with their quality. Not that BD doesn't have quite an annoying shipping fee scheme, but RH is crazy too. I use ebates and get a little cash back, so I'm inspired to shop online from time to time. It's hard to outfit an entire house in the GNO area unless you have a lot of time on your hands.

mkrzy, great job on your headboard. I wish I were so handy. I like the white; you can always recover it with something else later. bebe, the bed is from a company called Fine Furniture. Their website is www.FFDM.com. We ordered ours from Boyles furniture in Mocksville, NC. The whole collection is beautiful and on sale right now. meg, I'm no expert on this but the leather would seem the most durable. You could always buy a piece of the microfiber and test it out. I'm just throwing caution to the wind with the fabric on mine but i do have three huge pillows that will probably always be there; we keep them in back of our sleeping pillows at night. Good News, the bed I ordered is actually in the warehouse!!!

CF, i have a couple of things from Ballard and i would say their quality is B to B-. But, the cost is also B to B-. I do have a 7 ft long console table of theirs that is top drawer. They dont manufacture much if any of their own furniture so quality varies with their sources. The console is def an outlier. Thats why i am soliciting opinions here about the bed. It's about $1750 including shipping, which i think is extremely reasonable for a full size bed. Still considering!

Just use a plain metal frame to fold your box springs and mattress until you get what you want, To my eye, the high backboard is really out of proportion to a bed, But that's me. Others may see it differently.

I custom ordered ours from Bernhardt. There was an up charge for the fabric I wanted a custom wool flannel. Went with a taller arched headboard as we have 16 foot ceiling in our master, bed is beautiful.

I have the RH Warner bed- it is very well made and constructed, though I don't know how it compares to the one you are interested in. Price is high for what the product is- just fabric over wood frame! I didn't buy mine; someone I know was redecorating and didn't want it anymore so the price was right for me!

We have the RH Warner Bed too and love it. It seems very well made. We also looked at Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn and Ballard Designs, but just loved the look of the Warner. The companies mentioned above all have versions more similar to the one you mentioned. You can also buy just the headboard and it saves some money. Last Fall RH seemed to be having 20% off sales every other week so we purchased with that. We bought the full bed style and not just the headboard but in hindsight I might have just opted for the headboard since we've noticed little things tend to make there way under the bed and it's not easy to retrieve them - ie, kids' books, dog's tennis balls.

I may try to swing by the RH in Lakeside today to see if they do have any of the beds on display. I have only been in the store once or twice since the "remodel". The store looks hideous now!

Unfortunately, I didn't really care for any of the beds on Ballard's. I really don't want to pay RH prices, but I just haven't found what I want elsewhere yet. Still looking. Any other sites that sell beds similar to the ones from RH?

Well, so much for that! I just checked on the website today and the price has already gone back up to $1995! I'm just not paying that much for a bed that is nothing but a few pieces of wood, batting and fabric. I guess the search continues....

What about just getting the headboard? I just think it looks more polished with the upholstered rails.

There was a recent post here asking about draperies that included a pic of a bedroom with an upholstered bed. Someone replied that it looked similar to the isabel from Ethan Allen. The isabel looks similar to what you're interested in. Perhaps you could try there.

DD2 purchased an upholstered bed from a locally owned home store. Don't know the manufacturer, but it is well-made and half of what the RH bed is on sale. I can tell you that it's chocolate brown and has to be vacuumed each and every week. Dog/cat hair and dust magnet.

I actually like that Ethan Allen bed better than the RH bed because of the nailheads. Looks like they start at the same price for just the headboard ($795). Hopefully the full bed won't jump all the way up to 2 grand.
