Help! My bamboo smells like a septic tank!
Comments (1)Is this by any chance "Lucky Bamboo" which you've got planted in a vase? If so, it's not really bamboo, but a houseplant whose name is Dracaena sanderiana. It tends to live for a year or two and then starts to rot. It may be time to throw it out and start over....See MoreHELP! My house smells stale!
Comments (28)Our situation seems similar to bboop's. We have an odor that appears to be worse in the pocket door to a toilet room off of the main bedroom. The house is about 4 years old and is on a septic system. We know of no flooding history in the bathroom. The bathroom vent pipe is close to the exhaust fan outlet on the roof. The smell in the small toilet room seems to worsen when the pocket door is closed. It also appears to worsen when the eshaust fan is on and when there a lot of water is used. The house is on a slab. However, the whirlpool tub has a small crawlspace for the whirlpool motor and pipes. The air in that crawlspace seems similar (but less) to the smell in the pocket door opening. The smell appears to be somewhat more septic-related than overtly moldy. We did find some mold in our search that we removed with bleach. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We haven't taken down the pocket door yet. We would also appreciate hearing followups from bboop and other posts above. Thanks! Sebastian and Linda...See MoreHow to remove skunk smell from a dog!
Comments (6)kelp - I think the peroxide solution was the best. He was still smelly after the bath last night, but he was still wet. Today I can only smell the skunk on him if I put my nose right in his face. I have some "skunk remover" from the pet store that I plan to try. Unfortunately, Rocky came in the house for about 10 seconds before we realized what had happened. So the smell is lingering inside. I'm open to tip for solving this problem. We're burning candles, we had the windows open for a few hours this afternoon (but now it is too cold to leave them open), and we have bowls of coffee grounds around the house. We heard that it will absorb some of the smell....See Morehow to get rid of skunk smell
Comments (17)First of all, what constitutes a surge in temps in MN? Highs in the 20s? ;-) Our Shelby dog got sprayed numerous times when we lived in CA. Let's see: 4:35 a.m,. when I was due to leave for a HUGE work event at 4:45; 2:30 a.m. on a Tuesday (my husband and I both smelled so much from washing her that both of our workplaces smelled like skunk that day); and pre-dawn on Mother's day. If you suspect it's going to happen, you can stock up on Nature's Miracle skunk remover. It instructs you to apply it before you wet the dog. It works on the oil. Once you wet the dog, you're in an oil-and-water situation and that's nothing but trouble. Truly though, only time will take away the smell. Lots and lots of time. :-) Amy...See Moredeeinohio
