Real milk paint only in powdered form?

I went to my local woodworking store to check out Old-Fashioned Milk Paint. But when I got there, they told me they stopped carrying the product, because customers had a hard time mixing the powder and getting a consistent color. So they now carry General Finishes pre-mixed water based milk paint.

My questions are:

1. Is it really that hard to mix the powder form? I know there are a couple of forum members who have used Old-Fashioned Milk Paint, seemingly with great success. Do you have any problems with color consistency?

2. Is the pre-mixed stuff really milk paint? I looked at the ingredients and didn't see any casein!
