Carpet questions on which kind and stair options
Comments (0)We've got 2100 sq. feet of carpet that needs to be put in...we're replacing 1000 sq. feet and 1100 is new construction upstairs. I would like to use a frieze downstairs in 3 bedrooms and a cut pile upstairs...will that look strange? Any tips on what to buy? I'm set on nylon and trying to find weight greater than 50 ounces..probably going with the 6 pound pad. Secondly, we have stairs going straight up that are boxed and carpeted...we'll have red oak running up to them and I"d love to see if I could get hardwood risers for them...will I have to rip out the current box and just start over? Can I just lay the hardwood top and a thing sheet of paintable plywood or such for the kick part? The only other option I thought of was just using wood matching my kitchen floor on the sides and have a runner installed down the middle to keep people from falling down hardwood stairs. They have berber on their stairs now and it's very worn down and I just don't like the look of all carpeted stairs..any tips on how to handle this? The stairs are enclosed by walls on both sides all the way up..so there are no spindles to deal with.. Thanks! TAra...See Morewill hardwood floors only in kitchen look strange??
Comments (3)If you have kitchen wood floors can you also have it in the eating area? If you did this I think it would look great! My last house had wood floors in the kitchen and dinette area all one long room and the entry had tile floors and carpet everywhere else. I did wish I had ran the carpet all the way in to the adjoining family room and envisioned a wonderful soft rug to get down on the floor....See MoreIs it okay if we only put hardwood floors in our master?
Comments (14)Ditto to Sophie. It would look silly to have hardwood just in the master. They already have hardwood in the main living areas ... it's the bedrooms, halls and stairs that are in question. If this were my house, I'd want hardwood in the halls and stairs first. Why? Because those are the spaces that get most walk-wear. Hardwood in those spaces and carpet in the bedrooms is fine. Hardwood in the master and not the secondary bedrooms is also fine. As for resale, are you looking at selling soon? I wouldn't replace any carpet unless your resale plans are very close -- carpet doesn't do anything for your sales price unless it is new....See MoreCarpet on Stairs Only?
Comments (14)They probably put plywood in middle to save $, knowing they’d carpet stairs. My FIL did this in hallway and I hate it b/c if you don’t want carpet, then you have to redo or restain that section. He’s enjoyed it for 50+ years so who cares about next buyer, ha. It is a money saving strategy that allows you to spend more on a runner and those bars some people use to secure runners. Have you ever priced those? Not cheap!...See Moredeltabreeze
