Turnip soup--with apples or potatoes?

I put some turnips in with a turkey breast I cooked on the grill this week. Since it was an injected turkey, it gave up all kinds of broth which ended up more or less boiling the turnips. While I like turnips stir fried or roasted, they definately leave something to be desired when boiled. But I don't want to and can't afford to waste them, so I'd like to make some soup with them. Can't bake anything, my stove is broken and I haven't figured out what to replace it with yet.

I have two recipes for turnip soup that sound interesting, one with potatoes and milk and topped with gruyere cheese and croutons, and the other pureed with apples. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this? I'm not throwing them out, that is certain. I suppose I could add both apples and potatoes but don't want to end up wasting a lot of stuff.
