How about a wooden curtain rod set, with inexpensive finials to hold the paper on the roll. Or approximate this with a dowel and a block of wood at the ends with a screw for screwing and re-screwing.

I have one. i got it at a store-closing (going out of business) sale. I have since seen them at many such sales, and I know you can buy them online at sites which sell to store-owners. I have mounted mine to the bottom of a closet shelf-- it's a closet with only shelves, since it would block the hanging rod. I also considered attaching it to the end of the bottom of a tabletop, and to a wall, but could not think of a good location for it. The cool part of the ones like this is the cutter, so you can easily tear it off. But the dowel idea would also work great, and you could tie some scissors onto a pretty ribbon to stay right there as well. Try school supply stores, too!

Wow -this sounds like a GREAT idea! I've often thought of getting one large roll of "all purpose" wrap that could be used for everything. We have a local packaging store that sells huge rolls of wrap and this would work great on a roller mentioned above. Hmmmm...something to think about for the new year....

I'd planned out a station like this, for my dream home that I'll never have. But I didn't want to hang thepaper on the wall. For one thing, I'd want to have at least four to choose from; maybe more.

I wanted a place to stand them up off to the side (or I'd take a rack for laying them in up against the wall, almost like a series of half-pipes or round gutters along the wall above the work area). I wanted to hang the ribbon above the work area, and have a cup for the tape and for the scissors (even better, wall-mounted tape dispenser, perhaps mounted on a side wall for easier reaching).

I don't know if the folks at the Martha Stewart catalog would put you in touch w/ their supplier, or not.

no, wait, they apparently do still have the paper holder--but it's pretty big, and would probably work best w/ kraft paper. It's $44.

I do a lot of shopping at Floral Supply Syndicate; although they sell mostly to merchants, they will sell to the general public. Take a look at their "bulk" papers - I think it's a pretty decent selection. They also sell the holder/cutter - I think it around $40.

My current "wrapping station" is a small area in my sewing room. I store gift wrap on end in a wine box - I think 12 rolls of different wraps is more than enough. I usually purchase my paper in complimentary groupings; that way, if I'm gifting multiple gifts to one recipient, then I have a variety of papers that look good together.

I keep ribbons sorted by colors/shades in a 7-drawer rolling cart. The cart is about 4' high, and although I could use more room (I think I am a bit of a ribbon junkie), I use the size of this cart to limit what I can have.

I have a dresser in the sewing room and have dedicated one drawer in the dresser for tissue paper. I have lots of white tissue paper (thank-you Costco) and also keep special tissue papers in the same drawer. I've been known to iron a particularly lovely tissue paper to refresh it so that I can use it again.

I don't know if this would help anyone, but I just buy the larger 18 inch wide rolls of butcher paper at Costco. It's white, so I can "stamp" it, put stickers on it, dress it up with ribbon. I haven't needed any other kind of gift paper, although I do keep tissue paper on a rod on the inside of a closet door. It's perfectly "adaptable" to whatever the occasion is, and fits on an antique paper cutter that sits on top of an old record cabinet. Of course if I need paper for the kitchen, I can just go tear off a piece!

What great ideas all of you have worked out for storing wrapping paper in an efficient way! When we remodeled our kitchen, we created a hidden cabinet under the corner of the peninsula on the side that people sit at. The peninsula is at a 135° angle, so the cabinet is an odd size, it is created from the space between the peninsula cabinets and the wall cabinets that abutt the peninsula. It holds all my gift wrap supplies. Very handy, except that they are all stuffed inside there. But at least everything is in one spot and out of a plastic storage tote.

Cup, I like your cabinet idea. I keep my paper in a plastic storage tote, which is an improvement because it's upright; the old one laid on the floor. I wish I'd have room in my kitchen to install a cabinet like the one you describe.

If we ever move, I swear I'm going to lop 12 inches off the edge of one room by putting in a floor-to-ceiling storage unit, w/ space for stuff like this. And finish the front in flat panels that will look like a wall treatment.

Still in the process of creating a "station" for gift wrapping. But for those of you who have to store paper horizontally (i.e, under a bed), I recently discovered the perfect (lightweight) container: a wallpaper tray, available at Home Depot, Walmart, or anywhere wallpaper supplies are sold.

For storing Christmas paper (bought yesterday for next year) I use a garment bag that I attach to a hanger and store in a closet. This is the perfect size for rolls of paper and gift bags. (I loop a large gift bag around the hanger with smaller gift bags inside. Then the garment bag goes onto the hanger. Then the paper rolls go inside. This is good for leftover paper too, as the garment bag keeps the paper dust-free.
