Airplane room is 99.9% done! (Pics)

I haven't been on in awhile, was busy getting things ready for big borther and for baby! I made the fabric covered roller blinds, the bedskirt (both are a very simple blue plaid), and the pillow on the bed. The quilt was a last minute addition from Grandma. I still need bedding, but that is slow going so I thought I'd just post as-is. And I still need to accessorize the dresser. I ordered the owl bookends that I linked to in a previous post and I plan to put those on the dresser, but they are taking foreverrrrr to get here!

I'm really happy with the way it's come together. I think the rug makes a big difference. I think the FLY needs to come down and to the left ever so slightly but at 40 weeks pregnant I am having a hard time caring about "the little things" (well, except the litte thing in my belly!) Plus, I think once I get some bedding I will prop a couple pillows up against the wall and that will give the effect of a headboard and maybe the letters will look better height-wise.

Thanks again to you all for your feedback, it was very helpful!! I think this room will continue to evolve, especially once we get a twin bed or work up the energy to move the current one, but for now, I really like it!

Great job! Love the airplane prints. Did you mention where you bought them in another post? As another near due date preggo mom myself, I know how it is trying to wrap up the little things before baby arrives. Good luck with everything.

It looks fantastic!

I love how it has all come together.

Just one thing, I can't tell in the pic, but do you have window guards on the window by the bed? You may want to get one if you don't. I am not criticizing, but child safety is a thing for me, my best friend lost a child at age 2 in a preventable accident at home. You can never be too careful.

Hum, I read there to be some improvements in 1990+ vintage Yamaha, maybe a CD electronic ignition like the one I just replaced. Oh, on rethinking the $2,500.00 USD was for 9.9 HP 4 cycle, I'd bet a 20 HP would be at least $3,500 - a guess only. I got the boat/engine out for a test run this afternoon, it was a little hard to start, started and died when the choke pushed in.. got better. Ran well a both partial and wide open, but wouldn't idle at low rpm without dieing. I recalled I had screwed the idle jet screw on the carb before determining the engine had no spark. So, when I got back to the dock I stood in my hip boots with the engine in the lake and adjusted the idle screw... seems best at about 4 turns out ... much more out than any past engine I've worked on. It now seems to idle well at low rpm. I took sandwich and beer (not allowed, so I didn't really do the beer part if this post is read by a NJ Ranger :( ) and fished for a couple of hours, mostly trolling with a large swim-bait. I got nothing and didn't see much on the sonar either. I didn't use a down-rigger so the swim bait was likely no more than 20 feet down, the fish I saw were mostly 35' or more down.. also threw a jig several times. Any tips on a web site that give good advice on best hooks and rigging for swim bates?

Like southernheart said, it couldn't be more perfect. I love the wall color, the bead board, the light fixtures, and best of all those two sink vanities (with matching mirrors). Regarding honeycomb shades...have you checked to make sure they'll do OK with the humidity that collects after a shower? My neighbor put those shades in her kids bedroom. Not long after I noticed they had been taken down so I asked what happened. She told me they were ruined by the moisture created by the humidifier (why she wanted to create a humid environment I do not know, maybe it's good for children).

Hi Scrappy25, I'm not sure how tall the soffits were but they seemed huge! We took down two soffits. One soffit was in a wall that we took out (now it's an archway and a peninsula). What you see now is just trim - we just ordered some stuff and played around with what would look best above the cabinetry. I definitely knew I wanted top of the molding to match the rest of the house, so the carpenter recreated the original molding for the new space - we just needed to fill a small gap (since the cabinets were semi but not custom),so that's when we played around with other molding pieces. The space between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling is nothing compared to the soffits that were there before. The house is 1940 - so nothing is even. So everything was a challenge! However, we had to leave the soffit above the sink - I just had the carpenter make the soffit itself smaller - then we added trim over the soffit above the sink. That's why the two walls look different if you're really staring at them. But most people come to the house and just love the overall kitchen. I'm really happy with how it turned out - we did the best we could with what we had, under a certain budget. It's always a game of give-and-take! The hood - I believe it's the AK2500S Zephyr Power Series Hurricane 30" Under Cabinet Hood. God luck, and happy kitchen planning!

Isn't that why you became a designer?...to express your love for designe and creativity and getting to share it with others? We should take pride in our work. It is great! It looks very comfy and inviting, AND practical!

Polly, that is so sad about your friend's child. On the same note-- is the dresser bolted? That always worries me.

polly - I didn't think we needed window guards because of the type of windows/storms we have, but your friends loss is unimaginable and is just the push I need to do some research and make the right decision! Thank you!!

anele - the dresser is not bolted either...hmmm looks like I have some child-proofing to do. I was mainly focused on no cords on the shades but it seems like I have missed some things. Thank you all.

Actually, the home accident was a small 3 drawer dresser that tipped onto him when he tried to climb it. Yes, bolt the dresser to the wall, and everything else in your house.
I didn't even notice the dresser till after I posted the message b/c it wasn't in the first shot.
Like I said you can never be too careful when it comes to these precious little babies.

Tell me about it! I hear ya. I have a 2 year old little boy who seems to find all kinds of mischief. My hair is turning more and more gray every day.

Anyhow, fantastic room for your little guy. Best wishes for an easy delivery and a happy healthy baby. Keep us posted!

Oh, no! Did not mean to add to your stress level. Just a little thing to do but it just makes me feel better. :)

I also have a 2.y.o. (and 10 week old) so I am getting more gray hair every day. My 10 y.o. told me I have blond hair now . . .silvery blond, haha!
