TGIF - Oct 19

I'm headed downstate to my DM's today, I'll spend the night then bring her back up here to stay a few days, week, whatever. I've been trying to do this for quite awhile. Seems like there's always something that doesn't work out. I intended to do this a couple of weeks ago, then we hit a deer and that car was in the shop for two weeks. Grrrr... on the other hand, our fall color is late this year and is just now at peak, she'll enjoy getting away and it should be a pretty ride.

Sunday I'll be in the kitchen making one of her favorite dinners...her choice.

Have a good trip Nancy! And enjoy the ride back with your mother. I'm sure it will be lovely for her to see the beautiful show of fall leaves. That's one thing we don't get here but I won't complain as I'm happy with the warm weather we're still having.

I just arrived home from Pilates and a quick trip to the supermarket. Boy we did work out today in our class with tension bars and pulleys and for the first time I could feel it in my arms and legs. I hope it's all doing some good.
We're going to have some spinach salad and stew for lunch and if we still have room, a fruit salad as I found some nice papaya and strawberries in the supermarket. No idea what we'll be having for Sunday. I hope to get out for a visit to the Botanical Garden with my camera and see how the plants are growing, but haven't thought about Sunday dinner yet.

Nancy enjoy your drive and some quality time with your mom. Sounds like a fun weekend.

Sharon, you are truly inspiring me to get out and get some serious excercise. Between you and Diana, I hope I can manage to drop some wiehgt over the winter.

My annual bonfire and soup party is tomorrow night, so I'll be cooking and baking most of the day. I do have to find some time to finish up my swap shopping, and get the house clean, too! Whew! Makes me wanna crawl back into my warm bed! LOL Just kidding...

Greetings all, I can hardly believe its Thursday already. I have been swamped this week. Milkdud, tell me more about ESA? Sounds interesting. Peggy, glad you are up and about. Raeanne, happy trails? You bet and you asked for it LOL My weekend was simply divine. The weather was nothing short of spectacular between the brilliance of the crystal clear blue sky and the symphony of fall colors. The air was cool and dry but the endless sun kept us warm - but not too warm - just right. There was an excellent turn out of campers, 15 in all not including those who came for the day only on Saturday and/or Sunday. The nights were fairly warm so we did not worry too much about the cold. We enjoyed sitting around the campfires at night listening to the wildlife and drinking wine. The only problem I had was keeping my red wine from getting too cold! LOL The scenery in Hancock is truly breathtaking but this particular location is really special. The field we camp in is surrounded by ponds on three sides and they are all lined with the splendor of brilliantly colored trees. The ponds are teaming with wildlife of all kinds and this year we were serenaded by coyotes plus we heard a screech from some critter that was so loud and unusual no one could identify it. I even had a Bluebird couple visit my site for a while each day hunting bugs in the grass. All along the driving roads are beautifully restored antique homes that beckon to an era gone by an era of simpler times when equines were the only mode of transportation. Some of the roads that are included in the drive are historic roads. Most notably, The Kings Highway which was built by settlers around 1768 to get grain from Stoddard, NH to the nearest grist mill in Peterborough, NH. Riding through the woods was just like nothing else. The leaves swishing under the horses feet and there were spots that were cathedral like with ancient maples creating a canopy of brilliant color Â as I looked up I was entranced by the colors and the blue sky in the background. It was truly moving. This yearÂs foliage has been divine and even at past peak it takes my breath away. I like to star gaze and the October sky does not disappoint hosting a nearly full moon. Once the moon got closer to setting we could see some stars. Antares, a brilliant jewel set within the Milky Way, and one of the great constellations of the sky, the Zodiac's Scorpius (or Scorpio, my sign!) is to the right of the Moon in the early evening sky right now. Jupiter sallied boldly forth, shining in the south at nightfall. Taurus, the bull, has started to charge into the evening skies. In the north we could view the Big Dipper and the "W" of Cassiopeia to the lower left and upper right of Polaris, the North Star. The beauty is humbling and overwhelming!! SighÂ..itÂs just a memory now. This weekend I am off to Woodstock, VT for one last horsey weekend and foliage riding!! Supposed to be cold but who cares? More happy trails!!

congratulations, Stacy, and enjoy your anniversary. It was worth it all, wasn't it? The storm, the hives, the hospital, everything... Elery will be here tonight, so I don't know what I'm doing tomorrow. The oven repairman just came and fixed the oven but I can happily say that I know how to bake brownies in an electric roaster and it works very well. (grin) Sunday is the farm, I'll have to check on stepmom. She was in the hospital and they put her on dialysis treatments for 6 weeks, then they'll take her off and see if her kidneys will work better after a "rest". Anyway, I called the hospital (she can't call out, long distance) and got no answer Wednesday night. I called Thursday, and got a stranger who said they'd been in that room since morning. I called the farm and found the phone had been disconnected, so I'm assuming my sister didn't pay the bill. So, I figure if anything serious was happening, someone would call me, otherwise, I'll see 'em all on Sunday! Annie

Holland America Lines has among their 'alternative' dining spots a restaurant named Canaletto. Italian dining. $15 each. They also offer Pinnacle Grill, a steak and seafood venue. $29.00 each. Pinnacle is very popular and, in my opinion, somewhat expensive for what one gets. Canaletto is more intimate and a good value. We prefer Canaletto. For our upcoming 42-day cruise, they will offer Osso Bucco. Yum!

@susan - I walk my niece's dog during the week and there is a fellow who walks with a cane who walks his elderly dog who is quite large. They do a little walk and then sit on a park bench with the dog's head in the fellows lap while he reads. It is just the sweetest picture. My heart just breaks knowing that someday one of them will be left behind.

The end of a heavy week here...
My MIL died on Tuesday morning. She was 91 years old, and sick for only one day. This was a blessing for her, we all think, but it took everyone by surprise, in spite of her age. She was a fortunate lady to live in her own home until age 86, and then to live with her daughter. From my own point of view, being spared a long, lingering illness is the most merciful end we all can hope for. She was quite an unusual lady. May she rest in peace.

Nancy, have a good time with your Mom and stay the heck away from those deer. If you have any of those croissants left, have one for breakfast with some of that wine jelly and a cup of coffee, although I'd go straight for the pumpkin strudel...

Sharon, now I feel guilty. It's raining like crazy and we had tornados south of here, so I drove to work. I'll have to walk tonight...

Linda, a bonfire and soup party? I'm wondering which pot of soup is going to get the rest of that apple stuff you put in the Sangria, LOL.

Me? I'm going to do some housecleaning, and put up some Halloween decorations to make Ashley happy. I'll probably bake some bread, maybe make some chili. Or perhaps, some french fries for Amanda's freezer, we'll see. Then again, I could make some jelly.....

Good morning from soggy northwestern Ontario! We have had more rain this month than all year combined! It has poured off and on (more on) since Tuesday.

It is supposed to be nice this weekend, so hope to get outside to do Pumpkinfest at a local farm. Tonight going to a bar so Dave can try to upgrade his tickets to VanHalen next Wednesday in Minneapolis (Linda, he is booked at the Super 8 you suggested)

Hope to do a bit of cooking for next week so we don't have to eat cr#p like we did a few nights this week!

Nancy I don't know about your neck of the woods, but the deer are on the move here. Enjoy the colors and avoid those pesty deer.

Sharon, you know what they say...No Pain No Gain, hehe. Easy for me to say....I've been going to Curves at least once a month. NEXT week I'll start back on a regular schedule (uh-huh).

Linda soup sounds wonderful in this weather. Let us know what you make.

I'm sorry for your loss, CC. It sounds like she had a good, long life and a good death. though I know right now that doesn't make it any easier.

Annie, can you come and clean mine when you're finished? We started fall cleaning, windows etc. last weekend, but I have a hunch we'll never get all the way done.

Janet, enjoy your nice weather. I'm not too jealous...we really need the rain and it's snowing up in the mountains. An early start on the snow pack will be good.

I slept in this morning, too...nothing like rain on a tin roof to make you lazy. It's a chilly, wet, windy day, but the trees are so gold, it's not gloomy at all. DH and I are headed to town to do some grocery shopping and run errands, then home for soup and bread. Tomorrow is work, and then on Sunday I hope to finish washing windows and cleaning out my pantry. And I found a bunch of berries in my freezer, so I may be joining you in the jelly-making, Annie.

TGIF everyone!!
No plans here, there's a northwestern coming thur today (winds up to 50 MPH) and the dog is barking at it LOL
Fall is here: low 60's for the weekend and maybe rain. We need it too!!!

CC, I was writing while you were posting. I'm saddened to hear about your MIL, and can only hope that I am blessed with a similar exit from this world when the time comes.

Deanna, I guess you're hooked on those preserves, heh-heh! You don't reckon a jar would make it my way, would ya? /end of blatant begging.

What is it about cleaning? I've got the carpet cleaner coming to give me a price for carpets, some upholstery and duct cleaning tomorrow morning. I've been doing without a housekeeper for awhile now and DH keeps bugging me about getting her back (usually when I ask him to clean out the vacuum canister, nyuk, nyuk.) But I rather like cleaning my own house. It's also another thing that keeps me off my butt when I get home from work.

The last couple of ping pong lessons my instructor spent 1.5 hours with me instead of 45 minutes because another student was on vacation, plus he's a really nice guy. So I was getting a tremendous workout. Then the other folks in the ping pong club have been pulling me into playing doubles games (as charity to me obviously because I'm not in their league AT ALL), so the pressure's been on to improve and not embarrass myself! A group of us went out for Chinese food last Sunday.

The next 2 weekends I have no lessons because the community center the club uses is having Halloween goings-on. So I'll be playing at my girlfriend's house and the robo-ping pong center instead. We have a small tournament and barbeque coming up in November.

Ping pong practice at the robo center tonight, then I'll come home and clink to my CF pals!
