where can I buy Curtains/fabric?

Hi, I live in southeastern MA...Looking to buy some curtains for my living room with some graphic pattern on them....looked at bedbath and beyond, JCpenney, linens and things....EXPENSIVE!!! Does anyone know any other stores around here that carry similar quality drapes for a lower price tag...the ones I like never seem to go on sale either...sigh

I could probably also buy fabric and make drapes(not the most fav thing to do) but do not know of any stores that carry fabric other than JOANN(no graphic patterns here in my colors)

Any suggestions? Thanks

Don't have any recoomendations, just a warning. Some of the sites you will find are manufacturers overseas. Someone posted here in the last few weeks about her problems with the product she got. Her issues were the style of the pleat and where the seams were placed.

Have you tried Country Curtains? JCP, BedBath&Beyond & Overstock are some other places you can try. I assume you're aware that curtains displayed as gathered on a rod can easily be hung with rings, so don't let how they're hanging deter you from buying curtain you like. I just finished making short, unlined panel curtains and even though they were only 63" long I would not say they were easy to make. Sewing them was easy, but cutting them all square was not! Not having a large surface to work from was an issue but at least I had my kitchen peninsula, which still wasn't quite wide enough. If you can find them ready made in the fabric you like, don't hesitate to buy and cut the hem. The iron on tape is fantastic! Here is a link that might be useful: country curtains

The fabric you saw was probably something you would have to get from a designer. I've seen some great ones at the merchandise mart. Sounds great for a deck or patio. The big metal grommets (2" DIA.) are quite expensive as the equipment to set the grommets is about $200, and the grommets are about $1 each. If you are going to do it yourself I'd suggest getting the standard grommets at HD -chrome or brass- and using picture wire, attached to the wall with eye screws, instead of a rod. I love the idea, let us know what you do.

Sunbrella (Glen Raven Mills), Para, and Dicklon (don't know the mills) are the big trade names; most of the "designer/fashion" prints are made by those mills, too. But what you are really looking for is 100% solution dyed ACRYLIC. The fibre is what makes the difference in sun fastness. If you want to purchase trims (brush fringe, bullion fringe, cording) you want to look for 100% solution dyed ACRYLIC in those, too. Acrylics are the standard in the awning, marine canvas, and outdoor furniture fabrics, they come in a variety of weights/"hands". You want to use 100% polyester thread (69 or 92 weight), plastic zipper chain and plastic sliders; esp. if you're in a maritime location. Whatever site you visit, make sure the fabric you purchase is acrylic. And be aware that yellow, red, terra cotta fade like the dickens... they just DO; it's the chemicals used to obtain the color, because blues, greens, black, grey... last for years with no hint of fading.

I was also going to suggest Ikea. Every time I go there I WISH I had some room that needed graphic fabric. They have some seriously gorgeous stuff, at really fantastic prices. It reminds me of the beautiful Finnish Marimekkos that my mom decorated our house with in the 60's. And some are very "current" as well. Or like old traditional Swedish prints. So nice!

thanks everyone.....i went to target but never thought of walmart and ikea. maybe ill find something.

Is there a Job Lot near you? I found some really nice fabric for $2/yd (actually less snce their "3-yard" length was more like 3 2/3 yards). Tell you what, tell me what you're looking for (pattern, color), I'll look in Southwick MA tomorrow, you look near you for more of my fabric, we'll meet in the middle and trade!

Here's mine - need 4 more (16 yards or more).

I noticed recently that Walmart had quite a few nice drapery panels for good prices.

And even World Market carries some reasonably priced panels, or at least they did a few weeks ago. Making them gives you exactly what you want but I am not sure it saves money.
