I'm seeing a little gold rubbed(Rub 'n Buff)on the edges, and maybe a little stenciling(gold also)on the top/sides. Kind of a scroll design, not necessarily flowers. I'm seeing it thru my blue 'French' eyes. ;o)

You know what I think would be cute? Some sort of padded seat for the bench-- you could tie it on. You could do it in a more grown up print like toile or something. It would make it look more $ without a ton of work.

I would do a floral stencil, too, but something a little different . . .maybe like this:

I used to make Princess chairs for little girls. I took a child sized chair, painted pink (or white) and made a tulle skirt for the chair. The seat was padded in pink satin and I'd glue on pearls, feather boa or sequin trim. They were always a huge hit for the little girls.

You could do something similar with these, either add a tulle skirt to the vanity or to the bench seat. You can find that pearl trim and hot glue it around the insides of the mirror and add a bit of glitter too. Your imagination is only limited to what you can think of. Little girls LOVE the over the top glittery, tulle-y, feather boa-y stuff.

I do have a hot pink feather boa and some really cute fabric, not a toile that would work with pink, but maybe I can search out some.

Here are some things I had purchased to work with, I could also put on some clear glass knobs on the front section which would be cute too I think.

What do you think of this periwinkle color, I personally LOVE this color and would think it woudl be darling, maybe one in pink and one in this? I dont know if anyone buying them for 2 girls would want them to match perfectly colorwise, so would it be ok to do them one of each color, in case they end up being sold separately?

anele, I suppose, yes, I could offer it as a custom..but I think that since it's going in a retail space, people expect it to be finished (if they are going to pay a finished price for it) otherwise, it invites the low ballers who think it's a fixer upper and who would not be willing to pay the higher "finished" price. So as much as I like the idea, I'm not sure it's practical in this setting.

What I could do however, in the meantime before it hits my booth, is to post it on CL etc in this manner. Then if someone wants it BEFORE I do it on my own, they could direct the way it's finished. But again, this in my mind invites so many possible problems. What if, when it's all done, they dont like it anymore? so I've now just painted it to their specifications and am stuck with it? Then I have to either try to sell it this way or invest more time to redo it.

So you can see the potential for this being more of a effort and with less success then just simply fixing it up cute and selling it to someone who also thinks it's cute the way I fixed it up.

I thought I would also post pictures of the benches that go with them, might spark some ideas :)

I was playing around with some purple tulle that I have and bunched it up and held it up to the little bench, the wrap around board that is just below the seat, and it looked really cute that way, as a skirt. of course, I could find this same tulle in any other color, I currently have it in purple, gold (also pretty cute) and white & ivory. I've seen it in many other colors.

Hmm-- I see your point. I guess I was stuck on trying to get one person to buy both and since I know how sisters fight, was trying to spare the whole, "I want the pink one!"

Here's another idea. Why don't you do them both in white, and then put both pink and purple (or periwinkle) (different) accents on BOTH, so that they look different but coordinate? Or, follow with your original plan and do one pink, one periwinkle. Even if one person doesn't buy both (because she'd have to have girls pretty close in age) I think they'll sell quickly.

cute shop! I just had another idea!! I have a very cute bench with storage under the seat, that could be displayed with these 2 pieces redone to coordinate. I had it PS in periwinkle, of course, I'd have to change the bench cushion, the pic is not true to life, it's actually a moss green toile, but it might be worthwhile to put the 3 pieces out together.

I would redo this fabric bench to coordinate with whatever I use on the vanities.

In case you missed the last posting with the periwinkle (PS) bench. I am attaching the original bench, perhaps you can "imagine" what it would look like in periwinkle.

and if done at the same time, in some way that they coordinate with each other, perhaps they might sell better as a set, and if not, not a big deal either.

If I paint this bench periwinkle and the vanities either white or pink, I could do something fun for the bench seat as well as the seat cushions on the vanity seats?

By the way, I love periwinkle. All I wanted when I was 11 was to have a periwinkle room (sadly, I ended up with deep plum, which I hated). BUT, I wonder, for the sake of the sale, if you should keep all three pieces white and then use coordinating accents in periwinkle/pink. Tough call. The other way to do it would be one pink, one periwinkle, and the bench both.

As the mom of twin girls that are 8 I would suggest painting in girlie colors of the same intensity-green, pink, purple, blue or yellow. I would love those for their bath if they were the right size. I could do any of these colors together. I like the toile for the seats, no stamps at all-just painted but maybe skirts on the vanity and/or seats.

The "arms" of the bench will work great with the "arms" of the vanities. I love the idea of making the a set, but I think I'd price them each separately and as a set. That way if someone didn't want/need the whole set you wouldn't lose a sale.
Because the "legs" on the vanities and their benches aren't very feminine I'd skirt both pieces. I think you mentioned using tulle. That would be very feminine and you could get lots of gathers for the buck too. No worries about it matching other fabric in the child's room already.

I'm putting together some fabric and color ideas (too late to take pics tonight) but I'll be back tomorrow and you all can let me know what you think. I have some really fun bright fabrics that I think will work well. this might be one of my most fun projects (and for me the most challenging) but I'll be looking for your input too, you guys always inspire me :)

ok, here are the ones I had the most handy that I pulled out. I am sure there are more to choose from, in all my bins, but there should be something here that would work.

I think that with anyone of these bolder patterns (or course this is for the seat and bench cushions) they would go with either white, pink or periwinkle (depending on the choice)

What say you? pictured here is 2 different colored tulle's one is purple and the other is irredescent gold. there are many other options as well as widths that I could use. This just happens to be what I have now. I also have an ivory that is about twice as wide. and one on a big bolt

the pinks in these pictures (in case it's hard to tell) one is fleece, the other is a denium like fabric, and one is just cotton (the lighter one) the pink with the pattern is kind of silky, not 100% sure it's the right texture, but maybe it could work?

any thoughts on using any of these fabrics?

Oh Rhonda, I love the two that you have tulle with. Those would be just darling! Do you have enough to skirt the dressing tables and benches too?
