So I went shopping today. Been watching the Sears sale and noticed the Lagostina cookware is on sale - I really want to get rid of teflon - absolutely sick of continually replacing the stuffs that probably contributing to future cancer....I really really wanted to get some super heavy duty, lifetime stainless steel pots - but they're too expensive.

So I'm looking at Sears - the set is half price, under $300. Couldn't decide so I went for a stroll and wound up in the patio furniture section. We need new patio chairs. I don't want plastic anymore - fell through one of our last big plastic chairs last summer and so did DH which ended the set. I'm looking at the lovely sets I can't afford (doing more spring home renos). Well, Sears has last years floor models on sale for 50% or better off. I purchased 4 metal framed chairs - with thick cushions - for a total of $170 with delivery. Scoop!

Head into Loblaws to get a few groceries and milk - they just marked down a wack of ribs, pork chops and chicken souvlaki for 50% off - scoop. Spent $45 on meat and saved $45 on meat. It's all resting in our freezer now!

So I'm still thinking about that cookware. A specialty store called Bentleys is selling Italian Vision Select at 66% off. Higher quality and much heavier than any of the stainless steel sets at Sears. I purchased one large, deep covered skillet for $45 from $149 - scoop! Could not take any more stuff home on the bus. Called DH and told him what I got - I was sooooooo excited about waiting for the price drops and actually finding them - he was very pleased about the savings on the items we actually needed and have waited for. I asked if I could go back and get the rest of the pots to make a full set - he said go for it...so I did. I now have my new 18/10 stainless steel cookware for a total of $170 instead of $500. I'm tickled pink with everything. So is DH. After all is said and done, DH wanted to know what I got MYSELF. I don't need anything. Super happy with the tremendous savings. These sales will probably wind up by the end of Feb before the new stuff/spring stuff fills the shelves so it's probably a great weekend for bargain shopping.

And the added bonus is I need much less heat to cook because of the better quality cookware. And it cleans great!!!!

Lalalalalalalalalalallaaaaaaaaaaaa.

So good day all in all! So gals, get shopping for those items you've been waiting for a sale on!

Tomorrow I'm rearranging the storage in the kitchen for my new pots!

Skeet, I am in love with the Wesley Allen Quati in aged black! I think that is the Iron bed I should have bought and I should have bought the foot board also despite it being a tight fit. I loved it but there was not a lot of room for the footboard and I was not sure how it would look in the rustic ivory color which is what I thought at the time would look good with my Stanley bedroom set that I ended up returning. I liked the cottage white finish but the salesman talked me out of it. I like my WA Maywood Iron headboard but with the poor lighting in my bedroom, the rustic ivory color always looks dirty unless I have all the blinds open and it is sunny outside which is usually not the case since I like privacy and my Master bedroom faces the street. It also is too fancy for my Royal Cottage bedroom set I have now but looked nice with the Stanley Bedroom set that came so damaged with finished not matching in the set. The loading dock antique iron bed in that cottage white color in the picture above would look perfect in my room in a Queen size frame. I really like it also. I wish Wesley Allen would have a mat antique white or mat ivory finish which is what I really wanted and not a shiny antique white finish or a Mat white finish if I wanted to stay with the cottage look but not go with the Rustic Ivory or the cottage white (that had that chippy look with black on it rather than iron showing through). I always had a golden oak bedroom so I wanted a change when my platform bed fell apart. I really wanted Cherry wood but it was too costly so I went with Durham Royal Cottage in the White Sand finish over solid maple wood. I really needed more time to pick out a headboard but I was rushed by my friend who wanted me to make a decision and by a client that said they would pay the restocking fee if I did not like the headboard when it arrived so I would get back to their work. But he defaulted on his promise. But one thing I can say about my headboard is that it gives the bed a finished look, is very well made, gives an airy feeling to the bedroom so it is not all wood around the room since I have a lot of furniture in my bedroom. My 6" headboard (others styles that I liked better had a lower headboard and I wanted mine to be close to 6" tall) also looks like a grown-up headboard which is what I wanted and that is why I stayed away from shiny antique white. I only like shiny in the brass but that would not go in my bedroom. I know a lot of people with iron headboards and they all look classy to me.

Funny thing...I can anything I want, and don't have to ask or consult my hubby. Of course, aside from being a wage earner and contributing to the household income, I am also frugal and good with money and decisions regarding money...I have been accused on more than a few occasions of still having my communion money :) ...thus, I do realize that does make a difference and factor into the equation. One other point, my daughter can buy anything she wants as well, and doesn't have to justify it with her hubby...She as well, is gainfully employed. The reason I mention this is cause they say, you marry your Father...in this case it's true. Joann

I have made ammends to my kids and DH many times over. juddgirl: he is my support. I think it really helps that he meditates every day. I am trying to learn that too. Hey, I dont even charge admission. I just found you do all you can for people you dont always get appreciated for it. Like yesterday I went to the grocery store ,I was so tired didnt feel well but thought I have to,hubbys going hunting each takes a dish,wouldnt want the men to starveor anything now.So I went,this man parked his cart on sidewalk was walking to his car.It rolled off and a whole case of cranberryu sauce fell off cans everywhere.He came back,a few people looked but no one offered to help.I did in fact he liked it I picked 99% of them up myself.All he said was these were for food bank,no thank you no nothing.he didnt even acknowledge I helped.geeze..I said have a nice holiday.but the man that gets the carts,when I came out he said you get in the car Ill put these in the back.Imagine.He saw me helping the man,I guess in the rain.Decided to help me.I couldnt believe it. Ive noticed lately a few times a man left a door shut on me ,I was in grocery store heading to a check out a man cut infront of me then looked like 'What'another time in store a man was comming to corner of isle I was too same time,he looks at me then cuts in front only to go around the corner and stop blocks isle uugghh sorry Im venting..

Wow, Peg, you found some great bargains! As my mother would say, it would have been a crime NOT to have bought the stuff at those prices!

And you can tell your hubs that you DID get something for yourself -- some happiness! And that's a good thing. :-)

I don't mean to aim a dart at mcpeg and family.

I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable.

How many of you folks feel it necessary to ask hubby's permission before you spend family money?

More than he feels it necessary to ask yours before he buys stuff "for him/for family"?

I'm talking, "permission" here, not discussion of an action prior to implementation.

Well, Joyful, if we did not communicate, we would not be living within our means I fear. So, for any big purchase, we talk about it. If I need to wait, I do. But heaven help those who just spend and the heck with being responsible about budgets or credit card debt. Ya gotta have goals, plans, and financial security.

I don't have to ask but I do. From day one with DH we have both been upfront with finances because we never want to have that as an issue between us. He often gives me hell because I'm frugal when it comes to myself.
Before we went to Scotland 10 years ago, we were $60K in debt from both of us going back to school for six months, credit card indulgence and sheer stupidity. While overseas we still paid our mortgage here, a mortgage there and paid off our debt. It took us 4 years to do so, working our butts off and planning. Now I'm paranoid about debt. DH even asks me about big purchases - we both tell each other to go ahead all the time - we just got in the habit while paying down our debts to keep in touch about our finances. It's something we've never argued about. It's not a permission thing - more a paranoia thing on my part.

Your point is valid about permission but not applicable for us. We're now saving big time to build our home in the country, hopefully within the next 2 years. We're making quality purchases now so we don't have to repeat purchases anymore. We're planning to go 'off grid' when we build and live more on much less. So we talk a lot about purchases and saving money for our future.

As I always say here - I do appreciate all comments.

Well McPeg, congratulations on your big score. You will use the chairs a lot this summer to relax I hope.

DH and I always talk over big purchases. I know he wouldn't complain if I bought something big on my own but I think it is only fair that we communicate.

I've been in the Market for Patio Table and chairs since last Summer. I landed on the Sears Web site the other day and they seem to have the best prices. I'm looking for a round table for eight. Hard to find. Especially, if you aren't willing to pay $2,000 and up.

Gayle, the sales for the items are 'in the store'. Items have now been brought in from the warehouse itself and set up on the floor in the store and not listed on the website - these are the items each individual store had on it's floor last year for display. Go to your Sears store - once they're gone, they're gone.

oh McPEg...you sound just like me! I find it absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to buy anything for myself...unless you count feminine hygiene products...hee hee hee!

Shouldn't that have been "women" rather than "folks", because that's what was really meant?

I ask permission and so does DH because for us, asking permission is what works. It's a way to clear and clarify any extra purchases. We consider it the right thing to do.

mcpeg ~ I forgot to say congrats on a great score ;o) You'll love your stainless cookware for quite a few reasons. It heats evenly and holds the heat well, it's easy to clean, it doesn't contain any chemicals that can leach into your food and then into your body, and it will always looks great. Good job!

I hate to say this, but I went out to get some dish organizers from a local home store - been waiting for cutlery to go on sale so we can replace our set that you can bend with your fingers.......

Normally $99 - this weekend $49. 18/10 gauge stainless steel 8 x 5 piece sets plus the hostess set. They were waaaaayyyyy up top but the red sticker caught my eye and the overall pattern is a classic so I know both hubby and I can live with it. I'm done now until we go furniture shopping in the spring to replace our Sanford and Son couch and chairs...

I can't believe the sales this week. I'm shaking my head in disbelief. It's really been worth waiting for these items.

Do you figure that there's a difference between,

"Go buy yourself something, dear", and

"Go buy yourself something dear"?

Does the first refer to the speaker's regard for his spouse, S O, girl friend, etc. ...

and the second to the comparative number of units of currency that one may be interested in parting with to puchase it?
