They got 'til Friday...

To claim their puppy or I'm selling it to someone else.

Two puppies have been claimed.

One is on his way to Arizona as we speak.

They other goes to St. George tomorrow.

Puppies are paid in full.

One lady has called me about her puppy. She said she needed her husband to look at the pictures and pick one out. The other four I have heard nothing from and nobody is returning phone calls.

Keep in mind, all have paid a deposit on puppies; one half down.

I called/email all tonight and told them they have until this Friday to claim, pickup and pay for their puppy or I'm selling it to someone else.

I hate to give ultimatums like that but these pups are getting big enough they need to have their own people; they are starting to bond with ME and that's doing nobody any good.

A lady has shown folks in the Jackson Hole area pictures of the pups. She is certain the puppies will sell there and probably for more money.

I'm not concerned about the money....these puppies need a permanent home.

In the meantime, the little darlins' spend nearly every day outside. We have a pen built on the south side of the house where they are in the sunshine all day. I only feed them when they are outside too as you can imagine the mess five puppies on puppy chow and all the water they can drink can make. LOL. A bunch of plastic mattress liners used to do the trick in the store room. But then they figure out how much fun it is to drag and chew on anything that will move. LOL

We got lucky last night. Only one puppy piddled on the couch.

LOL

I wash doggie bedding every day. Digger complained this morning I don't wash her sheets but once a week. Yes, I said but you are housebroken...LOL

This little sweetie leaves tomorrow. She is the most social of the litter. She already has a name: CrossFire. A little boy named Sam picked her out. This is the third dog this family has purchased from me. I think they are in love with this line of dogs...LOL

This guy got delivered yesterday. He is on his way to Arizona as we speak.

Those are soooooooooooooooooooo cute!! What kind are they, not that i want one or anything. My days of having animals are over!! I told all my family don't bring anything into this house that has 4 feet or flies. We've had them all over the years, but we decide we're getting too old to be dealing with pets and all they entail.

Good luck, hope you can sell them all.

Oh they're so cute Lori. I'll bet it's getting hard not to become attached to them, as they develop their own personality.

New hostas for my friend arrived---how to keep them til planted?
Q
Comments (4)
Your ideas gave me a brainstorm, but with the following caution---if I potted the newly-arrived gorgeous hostas individually and set them outside, I am afraid that they would "develop legs". Nice things outside do have a habit of developing legs, especially with a housing project a few blocks away marring an otherwise lovely neighborhood. My Brooklyn friend, for whom all these plants are destined, has a large elevated brick porch at the top of her porch steps. It has brick walls all around, to boot. Upon the front wall sit 2 long skinny plastic planters, which is where I plant annuals for her every year. I seem to remember one of them is sort of aged and could stand to be replaced. I can buy a long skinny green plastic planter to replace it and use it here to plant the lovely new hostas in it. Then I could set this behind the Obligatory Bushes, out of the sight of passersby. Once the hostas are planted, we could just use this new planter on her porch. I think the hostas would be safer in a heavy planter than in individual pots, soooo tempting to pick up and walk away with. I would just have to pick up the heavy planter to put it into my car, but I think I'm up to that task. If not, I could ask a neighbor, like the strapping son of my handicapped neighbor. And, I just this minute got off the phone to HostasDirect, asking where my heuchie order is. The heuchies are to accompany the hostas under my friend's 2 big ball-shaped bushes in the front "yard" (by Brooklyn standards, it's a front yard. By you outoftowners' standards, it would be big enough to set 3 very large doghouses on, maybe). I should know by tomorrow, via phone call and/or email, when to expect the heuchies. They will be lil bitty things, as I could not find large specimens for all the varieties I wanted. I will have to explain to my friend that they will get bigger next year.

Got my bins,Got my worms,Got my cocoons, NOW What!?!
Q

Thanks Vagas and Tclynx. I had the cocoons in a plastic bag w/o air or food. Just worm doo and cocoons which aren't that recognizable to me yet. I could not imagine leaving them in the plastic bag vagas, so I prepared a bed of peat moss/a couple cups of cornmeal/ and a couple cups of wellllll rotted bagged cow manure that has been laying out in the weather for about 3 years/and a few handfuls of small shredded paper to break up all that dirt looking stuff. Well Mixed and damp. I poured the plastic bag of worm cocoons out onto this mixture in the bin and covered it with a layer of dry shredded paper. I did put some drain holes in the bottom, and I did put another container w/o holes under that to capture any liquid excess or baby worms that might fall through and of course the brick to keep the upper plastic container from falling down below the air holes. And I did put a soaked piece of cardboard box down in my bin to cover the holes for the babies to lay on,first thing. I did that about 3 days ago with the cocoons and I don't see any babies yet, but since I am still afraid I will damage them if I put my hands down in the mixture to look, that doesn't mean they aren't there, I'm sure. In the meantime, I am down to opening and looking at the worms only about 3 times a day and that IS a struggle for me. I put the 3 containers together like Vaga said. The worms are awfully skinny and aren't moving too fast just yet. It has been only about a week and a half since I put them(1000) in there and NOW I can see that they are eating the bedding up and pretty quickly. So, Friday, I set the second prepared container that makes the tiered bin on top of that W/Oa brick (The worms around outside are all laying under heavy stuff so I figured the small weight of the container could be helpful) and I put about 1/2 lb or less of kitchen scraps and coffee grounds and of course shredded paper in it in case they wanted more to eat. They really are skinny. I have never seen such skinny little worms. I am sure they must grow (red wigglers)bigger. Anyway, Today when I looked at them, I DID find that they are migrating up into the food...or at least about 20 of them have so far. Out of fear that they would attempt to escape and inadvertantly commit suicide, I placed the whole 3 layer bin in a large black garbage bag leaving it open and loose in case they try to explore outside the box while I am gone. That way, I won't find them dried up on the floor or step on them. Once I saw that they weren't trying to get away, I took the bin out of the bag. Not one fatality due to escape...not one worm in the bag either. =o) So, I am learning not to sit and prowl through their bedding to see what they are doing.....all the time. Just nervous about them I guess. Trial and error is the way of life, I suppose. I will either get more worms, or they will not do well for me. Thanks so much for your input. It helps to know that you guys are out there willing to share the information with me. =o)

Hi, lurker here. First off, CONGRATS!!! Secondly, my SIL lives in the Ontario area. She didn't see an OB the whole time she was PG with my niece, just a family dr. She didn't have a family doctor either, but she got priority b/c she was pregnant and she was able to get one and see him regularly. Try the walk-in - you may get priority b/c of being PG and not have to be put on a waiting list for a family doctor. Good luck!

How nice that you got rain. My gardens could really use some right now. The seedling queen is my favorite. I like the way the eye covers most of the petal area. You could call it What Big Eyes You Have. The seedling with the three scapes should be a great multiplier for you! Debra

Lori, I think you have a duty to post pics of these puppies each day....

They are the cutest little critters I believe I've ever seen. They are just ravishingly gorgeous. Please keep the photos coming.

Is it hard to breed dogs and (if I could ask a personal question), do you enjoy it and is it profitable? I've often thought that it'd be a nice part-time income to live somewhere on a few acres and breed cute dogs. I know it's a lot of work and I know you don't get rich, but is it a good job for you?

Thanks again for the pictures. Those puppies are too precious for words.

I enjoy breeding my dogs and raising puppies and no, I don't get rich at it. These puppies are mutts. I ask (and get) $150 each only because if someone will pay that much for an unpapered dog I know it's going to a good home.

It's hard not to get attached to them but I do. Letting go is easy because I know where these dogs are going and most of them I get to see from time to time.

The hardest part is keeping males away from Gabby when she is in the early heat stage and bleeding. Dogs are all over the place; she wants to go out and play with them and the doggie diapers don't work all the time and there are stains in my house. The carpet and upholstery cleaner comes out and stays out until the heat is over.

This batch of puppies have caused me some work because they can't be outside. It is so cold and I have no way of heating the barn to keep them warm and Gabby warm enough. We used to raise puppies with Ruby. She is strictly an outdoor dog. Because of the cold she wouldn't have enough milk to keep the puppies warm and get over-nursed. Then she would get mastitis and be sick and I would bottle feed puppies. I did this two times and I swore 'never again'.
I got too attached to the puppies and it was REALLY hard to let them go. The puppies weren't as strong as they should be and it was hard on Ruby. So, puppies live in my store room. This is Gabby's first winter batch. It's been a lot of work but worth it.

I will skip Gabby's next heat cycle.
Seven puppies have been hard on her.

I plan on breeding Holly. Her puppies, because she is a Corgi, will be worth much more. I will let her go one, maybe two heat cycles before I breed her IF I find a suitable male. The trick to selling puppies is to breed what you know are cute, personable and smart. Breeding a so so female to just any dog isn't smart.

My puppies aren't jobs....two of them are barking at each other right now and there's this smell......wafting...down the hallway....LOL

They are so cute, Lori, and I would be very torn about Friday. I love their little faces and I really like how the one is wearing his little collar already. So adorable!

Is it wrong that I am almost ready to check airline prices so that I can be camped out on your doorstep for Friday? They have such bright little eyes, and such expressive ears. I am not kidding though, if I lived closer I would have left a deposit for sure.

I want to get Ruby a companion, I figure it is better to do it now before I start working full time. It also gives me time to train and bond with a puppy while I have the time. I have been scouting the local pound and rescues as well, since an older dog wouldn't be out of the question. Now mind you, I could have brought a hundred dogs home by now LOL. But I am looking for that certain something in the look, personality, and so on.

I am sure everything will turn out though, because those pups are lovely.

Oh gosh, talk about bonding. It would be impossible not to with those faces. I hope you hear from your folks Lori. How frustrating! Can't believe they would be willing to lose their partial investment. Good luck lady. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed they show up and pick up.

They got 'til Friday...
