Prince Andrew has left the building ...

Literally!

Heard a bit of a ruckus out in our company lobby which is about 20 steps from my office so I went to investigate. Parked out front of the building were five CHP motorcycles, three CHP cars, a limo, a Town Car and about a dozen Secret Service agents and Prince Andrew just stepping into our company's Showcase (demo) room.

I slipped into the break room which has a good but unobtrusive view of the lobby when in walk three SS agents. There were agents everywhere and a guard posted at the elevators so I figured I was going to be asked leave but instead they said they were looking for coffee. Another gal directed them to the Cappuccino bar in the other building.

Prince Andrew stayed about an hour and then headed to wherever Princes go when they're done mixing it up with commoners. :-)

Get the Pavers Ready! The Unilock pavers that have been sitting in my driveway for months got put to use today. The wall crew switched gears and compacted the final rough grade before jumping on the pavers. These are the Umbriano that require a little different install (No Poly sand). The PB also finished tile today around the spa. If all works our we will be swimming by Aug 1 :). The only kink today was the wait for electrician for the deck bonding which is a grounding wire 4-6 inches below grade 18 inches from water line. It's throwing off the paving somewhat as the crew can't build the deck right up to the pool. That's getting installed Thurs morning with an inspection hopefully end of day. Entry way to Pool I think the crew is excited to get a break from building that wall Final Tile Placed in Spa My Daughter has Little Fun with the Paver Sand

Lily'smom, I'm so happy you posted a pic of your sweet house-I love the yellow and the mix of siding. I remember last month you made a comment about the turmoil you'd go through if anyone tore up your plan when someone asked if you posted it anywhere, it made me LOL. April Z, I've loved seeing all the pics of your house and definitely love the cottage! Doc5md, it definitely takes longer than expected especially living on acreage but it's worth it! Time11130, I'm with you on the door stain question, I was wanting to stain my doors a little different from the floors but can't decide yet! I'm loving your exterior. Casa di Villani, I have a new baby too but can't imagine being my own GC. I'm at the house all the time with my baby in a front carrier. Your house looks awesome. My debacle with the exterior brick continues but the mudroom floors just got finished so at least SOME brick (it's actually porcelain tile) is making me happy! The grout dust is still there but you get the idea. The pic is from the garage and the door ahead is a side entry door. Here's my exterior brick with some mortar scratched away to make it lighter (left), where I tried to whitewash it (middle, fail), and how dark the rest is (right). The fireplace unfortunately has the same brick as the outside. They pulled all the dark mortar out of the fireplace and were going to add white (not the one in the pic below-whiter). I'm just not loving the brick-I know it will look better with white mortar but right now it's hard to see past it looking like a 1970's basement fireplace. Plus it's just not what I envisioned. This was what I had in mind I'm wondering how labor intensive/expensive it would be to pull it all out and put the porcelain tile but cut down 2" in length to tie in with the mudroom... I don't like the size of the mudroom tiles (they're 2x10, I wanted 4x8) but that size was the only color porcelain I found that I liked. Man, everyone is gonna hate me soon! But my GC said we're not doing so bad since this is the first thing in the entire build I haven't been happy with. Mortar not in yet, yucko. Sample board is the color "white" but not white enough. I just bought "Avalanche" which is whiter. This was right after they pulled all the mortar out, some bricks came out too

Are you going to watch the Megan Markle/Prince Harry interview?

“I am, however, intrigued to know why the Palace was quick to announce that they are lauching an investigation into "bullying" (eye roll) claims against Megan Markle, but not into Prince Andrews ties to Epstein and the disgusting accusations made against him. Hmmmmmmmm.” Amylou, the bullying claims started coming out almost as soon as the ink was dry on the marriage certificate, and there was much speculation about the high turnover in Meghan’s personal staff. An investigation is long overdue. In any case it’s an HR issue which is properly addressed by the Palace. Andrew’s case is a police matter, and the Palace has no place investigating it. He has been stripped of all his official duties and is not permitted to appear in any public events as a member of the royal family and is not invited to private royal events either. That’s about as much as the Palace can do until the police make their move. Annegriet, why should Meghan curtsy to the Queen who is not her sovereign? Out of courtesy, the same as non Americans are expected to behave courteously towards US Presidents. And personally I don’t think the royal family would give a rat’s for having a dark family member. Queen Victoria was always thought to have had an Indian servant as her lover for many years. (Look up the story of Victoria and her “Munshi”.)

Only 10 (!) holes left. Dark colored roses for hot climes....

Kristine, your Marc Chagall must be pretty young? This variety was only released in 2020? Has yours, and/or Moonlight in Paris seen any frying temps yet? Sounds like the plant stays relatively small? Maybe these two could still be grouped together in my late-afternoon shade area, off barn. You don't think that they would both look "all the same white" from a few feet away? Thanks, Lynn, for the tip on possibly finding Purple Lodge. I have been to HelpMeFind which is also useful for alternative names on cultivars. Your comments on growing roses in Las Vegas are very helpful, the clime must pose several challenges for growing roses. Because of the long period of triple-digit summer temps here, I also use drip irrigation (but also supplement newbie plants with a hose), and mulch deeply with Cotton Burr Compost (I started using cotton burr amendments in coastal GA...Plants seem to love the stuff). Purple Lodge gets yet another score for emerging from your lousy winter. Will still strive to find this one. Is yours an own-root plant? Sheila, I still have not eliminated Falstaff from my pursuits. I grew up in Oregon, so I am familiar with your climate and know it can get quite warm & dry in the summer (actually very nice...lucky you). It would be fun to try both Falstaff and Purple Lodge. Too few holes, and too many (!) choices. Sigh. Go Gettum Cooper! Please let all know what varieties peaked your interest, and how well they grow for you. Have fun!

I was told he was here to check out successful Orange County businesses but ... the best part about his visit is ... if he was in the men's room and someone called the office and asked "do you have Prince Albert in the can?", we could have answered YES! How cool is that!? LOL

Jodi- hard to believe a company can be successful with someone like me aboard, huh? :-)

A British firm has opened a few stores in Orange County, and he was visiting them to hawk British goods. Forget the name of the store.

I just told my oh so clever joke to my DH tonight and he gently reminded me that the Prince's name is "Andrew" not Albert ... I knew that! What was I thinking? Oh well, it was fun while it lasted, in my sorry old brain. Again, hard to believe a company can be successful with someone like me aboard. LOL

I have no idea what kind of British goods our wireless company would possibly need or want. I'll have to research that tomorrow.

Andrew is definitely the most handsome of any of the Royals. I had a crush on him as a Teenager.

I did a little research regarding Prince Andrew's visit and here is what I found:

1.
From KNBC News
England's Prince Andrew was in Compton Thursday to preside over a ribbon-cutting to mark the opening of a British-owned grocery store -- one of several Southland events for the fourth in line to the British throne. (click the link below for more of the story)

2.
World Affairs Council of Orange County Together with The British American Business Council and the Orange County Forum Cordially invites you to attend an exclusive lunch with

His Royal Highness Prince Andrew,
The Duke of York, KG, KCVO

In his role as the UKÂs Special Representative for International Trade and Investment

Royalty in Irvine

Rumor has it that Prince Andrew was at our campus today, checking out a chip that was designed in our Cambridge, UK office. I didn't see him but I did see a lot of limos, CHP escort, and what looked like Secret Service people outside our building. I thought it was for our Board of Directors but I guess they don't usually get police protection.

...

***

So it appears he was here to check out one of our wireless chips after all.

My husband had called me Thursday from nearby Marina del Rey to say he saw a motorcade with limo, etc., wondering if it could be one of the presidential candidates.

Well, the article Jodi links us to says:

"On Thursday night, he was to deliver a speech at a dinner meeting of the British- American Business Council of Los Angeles at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on Admiralty Way in Marina del Rey, Mackay said."

So ... I'll bet it was Prince Andrew's group he saw -- can't wait to tell him!
