Anne’s children aren’t titled because Anne is a woman. Seriously, I just looked it up. Things will change with Charlotte, I believe. Edward’s children have the status but not the title, or the style; it’s a bit complicated to this yankee, that someone can have status but not a title; when their children were born, Edward and Sophie declined the Prince and Princess for them, but apparently they are still available to Louise and James if they choose to use them when they come of age. I have no idea what Archie’s status is. He could still have status without the title or style, I think.

I haven't watched the whole thing. The snippets I've seen reemphasize what a drama queen Meghan is. I don't think she is being honest about everything. I suspect issues of race came from outside the royal family and from Meghan herself. If the royal family were really that prejudiced against her, she would never have been allowed to marry Harry.

There has been a movement away from the family babies being given titles. It may be in Archie's best interest not to have one. He could be awarded one later if deemed important.

As far as I can tell, Meghan is bad news.

I liked the commentary I saw on CBS This Morning, but I haven't watched all of it yet.

I do not fault anyone for being a drama queen - I'm quite used to being around a lot of them, especially in the work that I've had to do in the fashion and furniture industry. I do not consider it to be a character flaw.

I think the real problem is the British tabloids. If you want to find something to criticize, start with those.

The British tabloids are horrid. And here, we make such a big deal about William and Harry being brothers like they are joined at the hip. And the pressure to name their daughters Diana, why would they put that kind of weight on a child?

I just don't like any one airing their dirty laundry like that. I didn't like Diana's interview, either.

I wonder in what world people would not speculate on the skin color of a baby born between two races before it was born. It is similar to speculation on the color of any babies hair or eye color. Not being there I can not tell if it was done in spite or just speculation. Coming from a family whose babies are born with dark almost black hair then it is replaced with white blond before at about age 7 it darkens there is always speculation in each generation.

I do not think their separation and move was well thought out. If it had there would have been no surprise when Canada declined to provide security which probably helped trigger the move to the US. As far as their children retaining their British titles the Queen has already taken steps to revoke some of the titles and Prince Charles has already announced that he plans on reducing who can receive royal titles even further. Harry should be able to grant, with approval, any of his other titles. Giving Archie a title at birth was probably already done as some are hereditary and immediately pass to any children.

I have no interest in those two people. I have better things to do than watch an interview with any celebrity.

My world, maifleur. Especially if one of the parents were mixed race. How rude. And I also never speculate about what color hair or eyes they will have. Healthy is all I care about.

The issue is not the title, it's the security. My example above was a ransom demand. And Eugenie and Beatrice are princesses, not in direct line to the throne.

Eugenie and Beatrice are grandchildren of the monarch, the Queen, which entitles them to be a princess.

Archie is a great grandchild. He could become a prince when Charles becomes King as he will then be a grandchild of the Monarch, but that is up to Charles.

Also I believe, Archie could have been called Earl of Dumbarton, but Harry and Meghan declined so I don't understand why she thinks otherwise.

Also Edward, son of the Queen, and his wife Sophie could have had their children called prince and princess as they are grandchildren of the Monarch/Queen but declined and are Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn.

Mixed feelings about it. I came out feeling a little sorry for Harry. In the end, who has lost the most? It seems as if he has. Meghan talked about being in a strange country, strange situation, having to learn to curtsy and the British national anthem. Hasn’t Harry had to do the same? Not curtsy, of course, but I’m sure living like an American is totally strange to him and I wonder if he knew our national anthem. He’s lost his family, his identity. I realize it was his choice but it still must be difficult. Meghan seemed likable but how could a woman in her mid30s not be smart enough to look before she leaped? It sounds like she was in a sink or swim situation and sank. I hope all works out well for them.

Meghan is an outspoken independent woman and she was a prisoner in her own castle. Her car keys, passport and everything were taken from her, She couldn't have lunch with friends. The firm said it would cause too much publicity. She replied she had not left the castle in months. I love the queen and I think it was the unnamed firm members who were racists and tried to keep a lid on her. She and Harry love the queen and Prince Philip, but Archie should have a title if only for protection.

She lives in paradise now in CA with her sweet little son, two dogs and chickens and a new daughter coming. I hope they have a very happy life. The tabloid nearly drove her to suicide and no one did anything about it. Imagine worrying about the skin color of the baby, Meghan is lighter than I was when I used to tan.

Why should Harry "wear the pants"? It's 2021, not 1950. Marriages today are more like partnerships if the couple want it that way. It was clear from what he said that most of he decisions that were made to get them out of that oppressive environment were initiated by him. He had the most to lose either way. The royal life or his wife and child - who were both being threatened because of her race. Or to lose her if she was driven to suicide.

I thought the interview gave a good picture of how trapped the royals are. I don't understand the inner workings of the royals, but I kept getting the feeling that "The Firm" didn't refer to his actual family but some team of people that is in place to manage the royals, to make sure the traditions and optics are maintained. It sounds like in some ways the family are just puppets of that overriding "Firm". I could have it all wrong about that, but that's how it sounded to me.

I don't find the speculation on skin color so odd. We discussed hair and eye color and even skin color when my children were born. Every generation gets at least one redhead. We got two. The boys had the blue eyes. My daughter did not. My redhead who kept the red hair has the non tanning redhead skin color which was very different from my side of the family who is very fair. Genetics can be very interesting. Without knowing the exact discussion, I'm not sure what was said was racially motivated.

The motive is that horrors if a royal little prince was actually brown-skinned. Clutch my pearls. With both my kids and grandkids, we never discussed their potential skin color, eye or hair color. Both grandkids are blond with sky blue eyes. I have brown hair and hazel eyes. One grandkid tans beautifully, the other has white skin which burns. From the brief shot, Archie looks like any kid running on the beach. But what if he was darker? The Firm is living in Queen Victoria's age.

Steering the boat still assumes there is a captain and someone in charge. It was apparent that they are a partnership with mutual love and respect and decision making.

I think the way he expressed feeling trapped was mostly in relation to the inability to affect the horrible things that were being done to and said about his wife. I don't think any of us can understand the lack of self direction the royals have, but I thought he explained/expressed it well.

I disagree about him losing self respect; I think he found it - taking a bold move to protect his family, even if it means some serious blow back to the life he has lived and is expected to live. I thought he was poised and gracious about it all, despite the things they have been put through.

Marriages need to work for both people. I admire Harry for agreeing to move since his wife was in a toxic situation and was very unhappy. Harry is a grown up man and he made the decision to prioritize his wife and child's well being. Good for him.

To me, having brown skin would be an advantage, as there would be more protection from melanoma, like I have had.

Before my sister was born (the first born in our family), my father said that he did not care whether it was a boy or a girl (He definitely wanted a boy) as long as it did not have red hair, and so of course my sister was born with red hair, but my youngest brother has even redder (or a paler shade of red) hair. Before Archie was born, Gayle King was speculating as to whether the baby would have red hair like his father.

I'm not sure whether discussing skin color of a prospective child is necessarily racist - maybe it is and maybe it is not. A lot of people prefer blended races, and the children have the potential of getting the best of two different types.

I do not think that Meghan looks anything like the women she visited in Africa, and so I found it odd for her to claim that people in Africa could benefit from her looking like them. I think she has one grandmother who is an American Black, which is substantially less Black than African. So, I would say that Meghan is at most 20% Black, more or less. I agree that she can call herself "mixed race," but I do not think it is enough for her to call herself Black. Harry said that the British people are not bigoted, although the press is, but he could be wrong. A lot of European royal families have suffered from inbreeding - notably the Hapsburgs, and I believe that Queen Elizabeth II has some Hapsburg blood. Harry also said that the racist press in Britain seeds the ideas of racism into the population, and they are possibly easily influenced by the tabloid press.

Well, I certainly don't see an equal partnership, but respect your opinion.

They liked Africa, why didn't they move there? They could have stepped back and still stayed in the UK. Why Tinseltown? Thought they wanted to escape scrutiny and publicity?

Did Harry not explain the lineage to Meghan and how life will be? She didn't know about the Royal Family?

She is not a naive young girl who does not know anything. Far from it.

That's not quite correct. At the time, only the children of male heirs automatically received titles, but the Queen offered courtesy titles to both Anne's husband and their children. They turned the offer down, so their children could live more normal lives. I'm a bit perplexed as to why Meghan, who wants her son to have a normal life, would have wanted a title for Archie.

Imagine how different things would be for the royal family if Charles has not been strong armed into marrying the acceptable, young, naive Diana. That really set off a series of sad events,

I don't necessarily think that Meghan wants a title for Archie. The title would provide security which she wants for him. We normal people don't have a clue what Meghan went thru especially with the tabloids in the UK. They were downright vicious. I loved Diana who was hounded viciously as well by the tabloids and know that's also one of the reasons Harry wanted his wife and kids safe.

I don't think Prince Charles has ever been particularly well liked and I think his mother knows it. He may very well be a significant contributing factor to familial strains but I don't think either the fact of his marriage nor his conduct during and after have fundamentally changed what his own public image has been all along. I also don't think the public has much respect for his wife and his relationship with her over so many years, including while married to Diana. She too doesn't seem very likeable.

So they moved to the center of tabloid city to safe. Sounds reasonable to me. My original thought was they moved there so she could return to her acting career expecting that she would be in great demand. Either that was wrong or the various production companies do not want to pay her what she wants.

I do wonder what security a title would have brought to Archie. It is not like there is always money and property that comes with a title. It might when he is older secure him a table at a social climber's dinner table.

I don't think of Santa Barbara as tinsel town, that's a name for Hollywood, Santa Barbara is a different world than Hollywood. It's also not a center of tabloid city, very quiet, maybe boring for many people.

Parts of Santa Barbara, especially Montecito, have long been favored by big name entertainment industry and other wealthy types. Both those of the talent/performing side and those on the business/management side. For some it's their main residences, for others it's the equivalent of what elsewhere would be called a "home in the country" for weekends, times when work days can be spent remotely or for the creative types, in between major projects. I believe the Santa Barbara area has been a Hollywood "retreat" for decades and decades.

That's the impression the interview gave all right. I'd just point out that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie (Andrew's daughters) both have titles but neither has security. The royal family has been cutting back on security for the minor royals for a decade.

I agree with Elmer about Santa Barbara and Montecito. It is the home to many, many celebrity types who live there without much fanfare from the rest of the community. I have 3 dear friends who live there and work in hospitality. I have visited many times...you sit next to celebrities in restaurants or shop next to them and there is not a fuss. Since I'm kind of a dud when it comes to popular culture, I don't really know who many of them are. My friends, after we'd been out would ask if I'd notice that Rob Lowe was eating sushi at the restaurant where we were, or did I see Geena Davis at the next table, or did I know that was Priscilla Presley and Lisa shopping where we were. They never would have nudged me in public to point people out...it's just not done there.

I think of it as similar to NY City where celebrities walk their dogs or go for coffee and no one pays them any mind.

My take is that Meghan is an actress. The long, "thoughtful" pauses, the heavy sighs, you can't tell me that they went into a 2 hour interview with no idea of what questions they would be asked. I find it unfathomable that a modern day woman in her 30's would not have researched the royal family she was about to join. If she was indeed suicidal and asked for help and didn't receive any, that is unforgiveable. Speculating about the colour of Archie's skin before he was born - we need context for that. Was it mild curiosity as in "I wonder if the baby will have Mom's curly hair?" We don't know. I guess the interview irks me because it was done knowing full well that the other side would never be respond. "Don't complain, don't explain."

Meghan Markle--too good for that lot. Beautiful, smart, independent, kind, and a hard worker. She was too good for them from day one--they are parasites on the tax payer. Monarchy--it was toxic and archaic in 1776 and continues to be so. Why should Meghan even bow to the Queen before she married Harry? The Queen isn't her sovereign.

I don't think we need "context" about the baby's skin color. We all know it wasn't about...will it have curly hair? It was strictly about his skin color. How embarrassing would it be if there was a black royal? Remember the Windsors were German and changed their name to Windsor. I'm sure there was a sigh of relief when Archie was almost as white as his dad. Now they can start worrying about the next baby. Meghan and Harry love the queen and stay in touch with her regularly. It was not her or Prince Phillip but the speculation is that it was Charles and horse face( who tormented Harry's mother for years) who were the commenters.

As an aside, I've always wondered who Sophie is!!

It's said that Meghan has a Netflix deal signed and other deals in the works. We're going to be seeing more of her, I'm sure.

Amylou, the bullying claims started coming out almost as soon as the ink was dry on the marriage certificate, and there was much speculation about the high turnover in Meghan’s personal staff. An investigation is long overdue. In any case it’s an HR issue which is properly addressed by the Palace.

Andrew’s case is a police matter, and the Palace has no place investigating it. He has been stripped of all his official duties and is not permitted to appear in any public events as a member of the royal family and is not invited to private royal events either. That’s about as much as the Palace can do until the police make their move.

Annegriet, why should Meghan curtsy to the Queen who is not her sovereign? Out of courtesy, the same as non Americans are expected to behave courteously towards US Presidents.

And personally I don’t think the royal family would give a rat’s for having a dark family member. Queen Victoria was always thought to have had an Indian servant as her lover for many years. (Look up the story of Victoria and her “Munshi”.)

Queen Vicki's family very much disapproved of her friend and tried very hard to cover up all evidence of their relationship. He was quickly dismissed and sent back to India by the royal family after her death. And a friend and even a lover does not have the same consequence or significance as a blood member of a royal family.

That being said:

I have no insight into WHY there was such concern about their children's skin color. Racism or just wondering. I won't speculate and cry racism and I won't throw down to defend these people and say they were just wondering. No one knows. But she took it how she took it. She clearly thought it was a concern not a curiosity. She may be oversentive or she may be dead on. No one knows except the people who said it why they think it was important to bring up....

And why start an "HR issue" investigation when the said "bully" is no longer "employed" herself by them? She is no longer a working royal. Soooooooooo....trying to save face or sling mud perhaps?

The bullying story hit the press when the Oprah interview was going to happen. The UK tabloids gave money to people in the town where Meghan's father lived to find out his address and then moved in an apartments nearby and across the street. Her half-sister is basically a stranger to Meghan and changed her name BACK to Markle in her 50's when Meghan became famous. Meghan hasn't seen her in 18 years and prior to that ten years. She grew up as an only child and this woman is a stranger to her yet she wrote a book "telling all" and fed the press lies.

I had recorded the program and watched it just last night after reading some of the responses here. I'm definitely NOT a 'royalty watcher', and for the most part don't care much one way or another about how they live their lives. I did have a lot of admiration for Princess Di and felt really sorry for her, being tied to Prince Charles. He has always seemed to me to have as much personality and appeal as a cold dead fish. And perhaps a rather smelly one, at that.

But I do admire Prince Harry. He definitely seems to me to be a man of character. I think he has done what is right for Him and his family, putting them first. I know I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to become part of a royal family, I doubt anyone else here can, either. So I'm surely not going to try to judge Megan. I'm sure it took a lot of courage for Harry to make the decision he did.

I wish them both well in their new lives, they seem happy now, and I sincerely hope they continue to be.

I think this is a naive comment. I don't think the social class structure is a more firmly ensconced force in a national culture anywhere else in the world besides the UK and perhaps with the caste system in India. Too many of those in the "upper classes" in England, to which people are born, married into or self-appointed at times, abhor the little people they consider to be beneath them. Both those with socio-economic differences and racial differences.

Racism is rampant throughout the UK society, even among educated people. As regards racism, it's not very different from what I've seen in many other European countries. Somewhat less so in the tolerant Netherlands but there's some there too.
