Horse manure/mulch in Plant City?
Comments (1)I would not worry, except be sure and check that you have some lineament in your cupboard for after you shovel that into your truck. Maybe you'll get lucky and they will have a front loader to dump it for you. You should tarp it for the trip home. I think that might be a law.... Manure can be weedy, but they pull out easily if you keep after them. The very BEST bed I put in was pure horse doo and stall hay and shavings mixed. I planted most areas right away and got no burn on those roses. About five days later I turned an area to plant more and one shovel full uncovered at least two dozen worms. Don't tell anyone of your source, (except for me, of course...) Veronica near Plant City....See MoreSpring slug control
Comments (8)Search "Papou" the resident expert, along the way you will see some of his beautiful gardens. Ammonia is a contact killer so you must touch the slug or snail with the liquid. Some spray the plant leaves at nite when they can see the slug which is fun but it doesn't kill the ones in the ground around the plant. Take a hose-end sprayer and fill with full strength ammonia, let the sprayer mix the ammonia, and saturate the ground around the plants during the day when they are hiding. Don't worry about the ammonia the soil will buffer it in a hurry. No real need to spray the plant since there is no lasting value to the ammonia. Do this every 2 weeks until you don't see slugs or slug damage. Start now!...See MorePlease tell me why I shouldn't keep my family's old silver plate.
Comments (13)Good for you Susanka! If you don't love it, use it or it brings you happiness ... let it go! Holding onto stuff out of guilt is no good. I keep telling my mother this too. She has so many items that were my grandmother's or great-grandmother's. She doesn't use them and they take up valuable real-estate in her china cabinet. I think she's finally ready ... this winter we are going to work on purging and organizing together (fun mother/daughter project). Just for your future information. There is a company in the US called Replacements. If you send them a photo of your item they will try and track down the pattern info for you. They also buy items. They helped me with my Great-grandmother's silver plate (which I'll admit is in the original chest tucked away in my guest closet). I don't even like the pattern so it will be going this winter. I am learning to live with less. We really don't need so much stuff. Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful: Replacements...See MoreEradicating spider mites from greenhouse.
Comments (5)I took a day-long seminar on greenhouse management at the local botanical gardens. They have an acre under glass.... The take-away was their go-to "solution" for soft-bodied insects like aphids, mites - and even scale at the 'crawler' stage. Isopropyl alcohol and Dawn. Can't get cheaper than that and it works surprisingly well. For a 1 qt. sprayer, their recipe was a capful of 91% isopropnol and a couple of drops of Dawn. Swirl to mix: you don't want suds. I've even amped up the concentration slightly with no deleterious effects - except on the 'wildlife'.... Cheers...See Morejannie
