Judy ~ It's good to hear from you. I sure hope that second showing to that man who is bringing his wife has a positive outcome for y'all and you can quit worrying about selling your home. That sure can be stressful.

Hayjud, I had the catheter ablation several years ago. I got tired of ending up in the ER so often. It also scared me about leaving town. I had an attack of the tachycardia once in Florida and it scared me to death. Anyway, the ablation was the most liberating thing I've done for myself in a long time. It was very interesting b/c I got to watch it on monitors and I swear, it didn't hurt. They go up through your groin and I had to spend the night b/c they have to make sure that quits bleeding. I talked to several people before I had mine done and they were very convincing. It it wonderful to not have to worry about those attacks. When I would have them my heart rate would get so high I could barely walk. And it would take hours in the ER to get it down. It was a desperate feeling. The doc that did mine had a Ph.D in electrical enginering plus his MD. If you'd like to know any more about my experience you can e-mail me. I'd do it again in a New York minute!!! (or a heartbeat!)

Vannie, That is just what I needed to hear. What about recouperation after. Is there a time of weakness from the heart healing and limitations? I've been on blood thinners for over 20 years already so I assume that I would need to stay in the hospital for the night at least. Will I have energy enough to lift and carry things again? Will I be able to exercise, at least walk again?

My Dr. said there was nothing to it, but doctors always see it that way. I wanted to hear it from a "real person!" LOL

Crossing EVERYTHING that this 2nd showing will be "The One"!!! =) I think you have waited long enough!

Sorry to hear about your health problems. My niece works at Rochester Mayo in the Cath Lab....I have heard her talk about these...such amazing things that can be done. You are in our thoughts and prayers! PLEASE make sure you let us know when you are going to have this done....an extra prayer or 60 never hurts! =)

You know how I feel about the house. We commiserated a lot while mine was on the market. I definitely think it is time for yours!

Hayjud, I won't say there was nothing to it, but if I'd known how easy it was going to be, I'd done it sooner. I felt great as soon as it was over and could have gone home later that day, but the little incision wouldn't stop bleeding. They make you stay flat for a few hours afterwards just so it will stop bleeding. It was a tiny spot and required no stitches. I think they told me not to pick up more than 5 lbs. for a week or so. You will feel so much better! Sure! You're back to normal soon; as a matter of fact, you're better than what was normal for you! I can honestly say I can't remember anything hurting. That incision in the groin is just so tiny you hardly feel it.

My sister had a friend that had it before me (we used the same doc) and I talked to her and one of DH's teachers had it done and I talked to him. I was sold on it and believe me, have sold others on it. It is more common than I ever though. Like I said before, it was the most liberating thing I've ever done. Those "attacks" hit without warning and were incapacitating for a couple of days. I had one hit once during the night when I was asleep!

Go for it. You'll wonder why it took you so long.

Good news about a 2nd showing on the house. I'm putting mine up on the market, and I have no idea how long it will take to sell.

I haven't had an ablation, but I have had the heart cath. Yes, they will take you off your blood thiner, and any other drugs that have any blood thinning effect, a day or two before the ablation.
Make sure they know every single pill you take, and when...and ask, by name about any blood thining effects...your pharmicist is the best place to ask this. They usually are more aware than most of the Drs and Nurses, because they deal with all drugs, not just those the cardiologist and other specialists and family doctors deal with.

The cath procedure is fascinating to watch. It is a tiny incision in the groin, and a tube the size of very thin spaghetti is inserted, and you can see it on the TV monitor.
After it is over, and it takes only minutes, they flush out where the tube was...and that does feel a little wierd, but doesn't hurt.

They will tell you to lie flat on your back for several hours...irritating, but very necessary to let the little cut heal over. That cut is in a major artery, and if it bleeds, it is not good.

When they do let you up, do not lift or push anything. I got up, went to the bathroom, and when walking back to my bed, noticed it was a little crooked. Out of habit, I reached over and pushed it back into place...and the nurse freaked ! Got me back down on the bed, and I was bleeding a little bit.
I had to stay back in bed, flat on my back for another 6 hours! And had a huge bruise for weeks afterwards. But no pain.

So...do exactly what they say, and you will get to sit up for dinner :).

Good luck with the showing, Judy! I know 2 peeps who had the ablation and both did really well afterwards. Good luck with that, too.

I know next to nothing about ablation but it sounds like it could really give you peace of mind and between your health issues and the house, that would be a very good thing. (((HUGS))) to you.

I hope you're able to sell your house soon, Judy. Sounds like a lot of stress you don't need right now. Sending prayers for your upcoming heart ablation. We have a few people every once in awhile stay the night for observation our floor, but they usually go home the next day. I only know a couple people personally who've had it done, actually friend's family members, and they've all done well.

Sending good thoughts your way on everything.

I have that heart fluttering too! I will lay in bed sometimes and it feels like my heart is just fluttering around in my chest, not beating. I guess I'd better have it checked out, although I did have an EKG not long ago, and it showed no abnormalities.

Judy, hope you have good news about your house, but I remember the pictures you posted and it looked so beautiful with the water right there.

I didn't know what ablation was so I googled it. How do they figure these things out? Fascinating! DH hasn't had that, but has had several cardio-caths and an angioplasty. He watches the cardio-caths, which sends shivers down my spine, but he thinks it's interesting. He had a pacemaker put in this summer and is doing great with it. Heart rate is 60--no matter what.

We'll all be thinking and saying our prayers for you, kiddo.

I know that feeling and it can be very scary when it is happening. The trouble with the EKG is, you have to be having the fluttering at the time, or nothing shows. I finally had a time when I fluttered and the office was opened. I never wanted to go to the ER because I knew it would settle down again eventually.

I have had the catheter done before and had an allergic reaction to the dye they used in it. That was a lot of fun! My major concern is wondering how the zapping goes along with my artificial valve (mitral valve I have had for 22 years.) I told you I was a basket case! I bet you thought I was exaggerating!

Vannie, 5 #s isn't very much. I guess DH will be waiting on me hand and foot for a week. YIKES!

Patti, Thank you for the encouragement about the pacemaker. I hope I don't need that.

I remember watching the cath on the screen and that was VERY interesting.

HOUSE:

We had that showing this morning, but we haven't heard anything. I'm hopeing that they had others to look at, but I know HE really liked the big yard. They will not find that anywhere else around here. I keep checking the properties available around here.

Judy, good wishes for selling the house.

As for the ablation, prayers for that. My mom had kidney cancer, and ablation was used for that. Wonderful! She didn't have to have the kidney removed, so no major surgery, and still has partial use of the kidney along with the other fully functioning kidney, which is great, as she is diabetic.

Ablation can be used for many different health issues and is much less invasive than traditional ways, with great results and shorter recovery time.
