Wet Newspaper.............

.....Who would of thought!!! I was watching "Rachel Ray" the other day, and her tip was, to wet newspaper, and throw it in your refridgerator. It removes all the oders. I did it, and it works better than Baking soda!!! Has anyone else tried this? You should because it works!!! Diana55

Shekanahh, I use a similar set-up as the one Larry described. I have found the in my case the pvc pipe to be more effective and cost efficient. I use 1/2" pvc and I buy it in 10 ft lengths. I use the cheapest pipe I can find, because the walls don't have to be really thick or anything super strong. I also invested in an inexpensive pipe cutter, just to save time over a hacksaw. As for hooking it to the water hose, they make a threaded adapter just for that purpose. I have used a few, but for the most part, I use a regular pvc end that fits 1/2" pipe on one end and has 3/4" threads on the other with a quick connect system for the hose. Here are the pieces I use.... As for the rows, I think it depends on your water pressure. I can hook 2-3 rows together, depending on slope and distance from the spigot. I use tees and elbows as needed to connect the rows together. I cap the ends using normal pvc caps. The only parts I have glued together are the ends where I connect the hose, because there is quite a bit of twisting and pulling at that point, but I don't know that it is necessary. I leave the joints unglued so I can store everything for the winter and I leave the caps unglued so I can flush the pipes, if needed. Here are some pics of the garden from '07 where you can kind of see the layout. At the end of the tomato row, there is the piece made specifically for water hoses, sorry I don't have a better pic. I started with a 4 way manifold, then shorter hoses to all the rows, but I didn't have enough pressure for that. Last year, I changed the layout a little because the garden got bigger. So, it has taken some trial and error to get everything adjusted to work the way I wanted it to, but I think it has been worth it. I think last years set-up worked best, so if I ever get things sorted out this year, I think I will keep it the same way. Oh, and here is a pic of the cutter..... Michelle

Luv - Loved your comment about your horse. I spray lemon pledge on my miniature show horse. It gives him a shine, repels dirt, and the flys don't like the lemon smell. Also, I spray PAM on their feet after I clean them. It repels manure and things they pick up right before entering the arena. I also spray PAM on the underside of my mower deck to keep grass from collecting and clogging it up. Oh, I also heard dryer sheets were great for cleaning your iron.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with writing your name/address on an envelope (not the thank you note). Put the cards in a bowl and draw out the name for a door prize. I've been to several showers where this has been one of the games. The bride/new mother is still writing the thank you note. She's just enclosing it in a pre-written envelope. Maybe someone has changed addresses since the invites went out. No big deal IMHO. Put a little baby oil in a spray bottle and spray freshly painted nails. They won't smudge as bad.

"Reheat Pizza Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works." I have several Pampered Chef pizza stones (well, they call them "baking stones"). Put the leftover pizza on one of the stones and put it in the oven. Heats it thoroughly (better than in a frying pan/skillet), and the stone keeps the crust from getting soggy. "INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS [snip] ...dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free ... [snip] well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long!" We don't use dryer sheets. We use liquid fabric softener that goes into the rinse water in the washing machine. Keeping your electric bill lower would be an issue with an electric dryer, but ours runs on natural gas. What are "leftover Snickers bars"? ;-)

But how do you get the smell of wet newspaper out?

I don't know about other papers but the Detroit Free Press is pretty stinky when its wet...

I wonder if this would work for a freezer? My daughter just purchased a gently used fridge for the garage and the freezer is stinky.

LOL on the typo....also "refrigerator" has no "D" LOL! Sometimes ya can't win for losing!
I also have heard that kitty litter does a good job of de-stinking a refrigerator too.

I took the "Newspaper" out this morning and the refrigerator smells fresh. It doesn't smell like wet newspaper at all. Look Linda, I think it is spelled right this time!!!LOL Diana55

Wet newspaper is also wonderful for cleaning up broken glass. Just wet it to soaking and use clumps of it to pick up all the tiny splinters that can't be seen until they stab you!

I was just told that wrapping fish in newspaper and putting it in the fridge overnight and the fish won't smell fishy...

Great newspaper tips.

Our girls softball team has to play in the rain occasionally. To expedite the drying process of their cleats, we stuff them with (dry) newspaper. Of course this works with tennis shoes.

I've tried newspapers to clean glass windows, but hadn't really thought of placing it in the fridge. I'm going to line my vegetable bin with it, and see how it works. Now, I'll be able to enjoy a midnight snack and squeeze some reading time.

Btw, your humor remains intact. The spelling gibble-gabble above reminded me of an old joke:
"If a word in the dictionary were misspelled, how would we know?"

Okay....I heard today that "NEWSPAPER" removes odors from Tupperware, or any plastic container. Just wet it and put it in. Leave it over night with the lid on. I'll have to try that one, as my husband brings them home from work dirty, and they sit there all day like that. I hope it works, and I'll let you know. Diana55

Wondering if it's the paper or the ink? I hate the way the ink rubs off...and have a roll of newsprint....wonder if that would work. Anyhow would look neater than printed newspaper.

I know of some people who will stuff their dresser drawers with bunched up newspaper when they shut their cabins down for the winter. It works to eliminate and prevent moisture and odors.

I believe it is the carbon in the ink. I have a question, doesn't the ink get on your shelving? I have glass shelves that are white. I've already had trouble getting packaging stickers that stuck to it when they were damp.

I WILL be trying this one! Three weeks ago, DH, for some reason, decided to turn off the camper refrigerator with food and a whole bag of ice in it. I've scrubbed it out, baking soda, and three changes of charcoal. The frige is now usable, but the freezer still smells. It has improved greatly, but to use it this weekend, I triple bagged the few things I had to put in the freezer. And I still have charcoal on newspaper in it! When I go to the camp ground tonight, I will take plenty of newspaper and wet some, put it in a foil tray and put it in the freezer.

You may have just saved "someone's" hide!
