I would remommend placing a 'real' roof under anything like cans. It wouldn't cost much to roof it with paper and shingles, which don't cost much. Shingles show up on the side of the road often for free. Check constructions sites. They throw lots of them away. Don't be afraid to ask. Once it's roofed, there will be no leaking problem, period. I like to paint metal with alkyd paint. It's oil based industrial paint, and can be found at all the big paint and hardware stores, and also at Habitat Restores and other stores like them. If you find it at Habitat, it will be far less expensive. Even if you don't paint or seal it, the roof underneath will take care of any problems and won't show under the cans. If the cans start to deteriorate beyond what you like, just replace them. Just a note. If the roof is rusting, the rust will stain materials around it as water drips from it. Linda

Thanks everyone....Diana this one isn't quite the same as the old recipe for the which I used to make, because the addition of 1 lb of quark turns it into more of a tangy cheesecake type of dessert, and lower in fat than if it were all whipped cream. I'm sure peppermint would also combine nicely with the chocolate. Your stacked version looks like a good party item too! Quark comes in a choice of fat content and is generally considered a healthy option to sour cream or all whipped cream. The one I used for this is made from semi-skinned milk with a 6% fat content. It's still rich I know, and I've never been one to promote overly-rich desserts, lol, as I generally keep away from them all. From searching the web it seems that a half & half combo of cream cheese and low fat ricotta or just all ricotta or creme fraiche would substitute for the quark if one doesn't find it in a shop. Here below is an interesting NY Times article with a couple of recipes on page 2. SharonCb Here is a link that might be useful: Quark in USA and Recipes

Raee - when you see boxes or frames with old photos, there is a way that relatives can be found. There is a facebook group called "Random acts of genealogy". You would be surprised how many people on there actually buy old photos from antique shops and garage sales and track down relatives. Some have even bought family bibles and tracked down relatives that never knew such things existed. I am lucky that some old family photos were passed down to us - we have charcoal drawings of my husband's GF and GGF. We have a tin print of GGGF, plus some other relatives had other photos of him. We have a number of others from husband's GM on his dad's side and her parents. I love looking at them, especially now that I am trying to learn about their lives in GA before they came to FL. Hubs would qualify as a SAR, and Florida Pioneer Family Member. He is 5th generation Floridian.

Segbrown - Love your kitchen and your pulls, and your tin backsplash! Wish I could do another kitchen with cabinets like yours just so I could do the orb pulls. =) Josie - I really do like the look of the orb on the dark cabinetry, good for you for being brave to post your pretty cabinets and hardware despite the "orb is dead" posts, which are completely fair and I love when people state their opinions with resonance!! I think the white counters break it up though, whereas my desk/pantry area is a sea of dark with nothing to break it up. What I forgot though is that when I put things in the open shelf and even right on the desk counter, the things pop like nobody's business which is great and makes the chrome hardware stand out less. Case in point....the green apples, silver clock and pink grapes. I love how they pop: RM - Articulate and savvy RM! Good point about all the other metal that we have in there. Did I tell you we had trouble finding the table? So we're still stuck on what time of table to get. Glass would work so well, yet it's not fun to eat off of glass. I'd prefer a wood top for sure. My finished kitchen photos will come one day...I'm glad our uppers are up. The backsplash will be in in no time, along with the crown molding. there was an issue with the chair fabric so we may have to wait until mid-Feb to get them. The drapery fabric is also on backorder I believe - who knew it was so hard to get fabric??? I may do an "80%" post just for you though... Okay, I am content with the chrome pulls again. Had a momentary bout of insanity. I also don't want my kitchen to be done, I have too much fun on this forum!!! None of you hang out at home decorating, just a few of you on bathrooms. I should start a new post - Which forum do you visit after your kitchen renovatin is over???
