Another shout-out. Country Sunshine?

Sorry about the method but in another thread you mentioned going to your husband's memorial service. I'm a little spotty with KT--did I miss something? If your husband did pass, I'm terribly sorry.

Yes, My husband passed on Jan. 31. He had suffered from a broken hip and then everything went downhill quickly from there. Pneumonia, heart attack, renal failure, bladder infection, UT infection.

We had his Memorial service on Valentine's Day evening at our church.

Preservice Music started at 6:00,
6:30, Bro. Ronnie , opening comments and prayer
Deb. M. recited a poem I wrote for Bob titled "Since Yesterday:
Music, "Dancing With the Angels"
Bro. Ronnie - Message and spoke of his relationship with Bob
Music - Amazing Grace done by Il Divo at the Roman Coliseam complete with Bagpipe music which is traditional for a retired firefighter.
Music - Bro. Ronnie and his brother Robert sang "When God Ran"
Bro. Ronnie, closing remarks
Me, with a special reading of something that had been layed on my heart about grief and how God Can use it to do something good.
Music - Oh my my, I'm a gonna fly up to see my Jesus".. the entire congregation participated... It was uplifting and celebratory. No typical funeral type music at all. Altogether it really helped me look at Bob's passing with more of a positive attitude and it gives me the "want to's" to just move forward doing what God wants me to do each and every day....

I have many moments of crying, aching from missing that ol codger so dang much, but then I remember that he is now in the arms of Jesus .... and what better place could anyone every wish for???

I will eventually feel some semblance of normalcy again, but for now I feel as if I have been innoculated with a massive dose of novacaine... I am numb with grief, but hopeful for moving forward and looking forward to the day when I will be called home and reunited with my beloved Bob.

Oh my, I'm so sorry! I do remember you posting that he had broken the hip, and assumed he was at home recuperating. What a dreadful surprise--no wonder you are still numb. Do you have family/friends with you? I'm glad your faith plays a strong part in your life and know it will hold you up. Please accept my condolences.

Yeah - you should see our eyes light up when someone walks up with a large bundle of empty plastic pots! We ain't proud. In fact I think it was Rootdigger and I that were arm wrestling over the large stack of black plastic gallons last fall - shameless I tell ya! We are all hungry for pots and totally understand if some things show up wrapped in whatever was handy at the time. As a side biz I sell rooted cuttings and seedlings at the local flea market. This market has a large immigrant following. Last year I had the other Datura - not Datura metel, the one that looks just like Jimsonweed. You should have seen the latino customers eyes glaze over. A few of them asked in broken English if I knew what that plant is used for. I replied in my broken Spanglish that I knew exactly what it was used for and that I consider the plant rather dangerous and that I hoped they had more sense than to home brew some hallucinagenics. I sold it as "Deadly Toxic Poison Plant" and sold plenty of them. (for those of you NOT in the know - both Datura and Brugmansia are used in various potions to induce a high or even as a knock-out drug.)

Sharon and all y'all....thanks for the "shout out" for my buddy!!! I know we all have friends and family serving their countries so this is a very cool and thoughtful post. Also, thanks for all the help and advice with the party this past weekend. We had a great time....for the most part things went well and without a hitch. I did learn a few things though for future gatherings of this size. LOL I will post a few pics by the end of the week. I only managed a couple...it was a crazy night! I will get some from DS and DN once they send them to me. Thanks again!!! David

Finished a rather fun read of Love Among the Butterflies by Margaret Fountaine, a collection of her diary entries which detail her wide travels across the world collecting butterflies (and sometimes men). [grin] Fountaine was a vicar's daughter (I think) who grew up at the tail end of Victoria and the beginning of Edwardian days, and as she was not married, she found herself somewhat unoccupied. She started to collect butterflies, and after a while, became a serious entomologist and traveled across the world adding pieces to her large collection. (Lots of overlaps with Edith Holden here.) So - clearly, this is an unorthodox woman for the times: she travels widely to countries not familiar to a lot of people back then, she ends up having a long-term relationship (and traveling with) a man from Syria, she becomes an expert in butterflies... It's quite admirable just how far she pushed acceptability in female terms back then, but it did come with a price. She really struggles to reconcile her love of freedom with the cultural expectations of the time with regard to spinsters and marriage and "suitable" partners. Despite all her travel experience, she stays curiously unhappy throughout her life (at least as told in these entries). She is very defensive all the time, but was heartless to those who kept her close to their hearts. Her Syrian lover could not be publicly acknowledged for many years, and although they travel and work well together, she insisted on them having different rooms and standards (despite their relationship), and she could never grasp that he was in love with her for realz. In their rather frequent seperations, she would drive herself to distraction imagining various horrible scenes involving him and an accident or another woman etc. Fountaine does acknowledge in her diaries that she adores her freedom, but anything that seems to threaten that state of affairs immediately puts her into a tailspin of being mean to her family, friends and lovers, of acting selfishly and generally being a bit of a pinhead. However, just because she was rather an unkind person doesn't make this book any less fascinating. The illustrations taken from her diary pages are intriguing to look at: her writing is immaculate with very few errors and she justifies her handwriting on every page. (Goodness - how to do that without making a crossing-out every now and then, who knows?). She had volumes of diaries and numerous boxes of butterfly specimens that she bequeathed to a museum, but only with the condition that the museum administration do not open the diary box for 40 years after her death. This agreement was stuck to, and so they waited for the correct time. Thus were found the diaries. So - good read overall. Woodnymph - you mentioned earlier that you had a copy but it was only a paperback and had type that was difficult to read. Would you like me to send you this copy? Hi BahamaDan, I'm succesfully growing several varieties of blueberries in South Africa. I posted a long reply here that disappeared when I changed tabs :( I'll be brief now. My best performing variety is Brigitta which I believe was developed in Australia. Second best is Centurion. I use a mix of 1/3 each of perlite, acid compost and peat /coco peat in my pots. I top them with a mulch of big pine bark chips. My father-in-law bought some expensive German potting soil for azaleas, for the blueberry I gave him but his plant has been struggling for the past 2 years. I use only a half handful or so of Ammonium Sulfate per plant in the larger, half whiskey barrel sized terracotta pots. I do that in early spring and early summer. I almost killed one of the plants with a massive dose of the ammonium sulfate, so I'm very careful with it now. On a weekly basis or when I remember, I add a weak dose of either fish emulsion or an organic and water soluble fertiliser for acid loving plants. Below is my 2 year old Brigitta (one of two in the same style pot). In front of it are O'Neil and Gulf Coast recently bought for me by a friend, as they are said to taste really good and do well in warmer climates. Carolyn, I am so sorry to hear about your husband. I haven't been to the KT lately so didn't know. You have my deepest sympathies.

Thank you all... We were married for 38 years, but were together 4 years before we married. We were joined at the hip as many would tell you.... so this was such a shock. We did have a wonderful marriage and for that I praise the Lord... and am so grateful.

I have tremendous support from our church family, and today we started a new weekly prayer meeting in a ladies home. This is such a good idea and especially at this time for me. It's a small group of about 10 ladies, but already I am received God's blessings from taking part in this group...

I haven't felt much like being on the computer since his passing... but have been keeping more physically busy instead...
