Glass jello mold

I saw a vintage, heavy glass jello mold (or is it mould?) in an antique shop. Once firm, how was the jello turned out? Sit the mold in warm water?

Yep, I've always dipped the bowl into hot water for a few seconds then turn it out onto whatever I'm wanting to put it on. If it doesn't slide right out it will in a minute or so.

I also have run a dab of oil over the mold with my finger so that it is a thin coating. That with a hot water dip does it.

What fun! I've made Jello molds for years. I used Vasaline to grease the molds, then poured the cement. I found out the hard way they split in half in about a year so I would suggest the fibers used in cement. Can't remember the name but Home Depot or the like will know. I used the longest deck screws I could find to hold two together. It helps if you have two molds the same, if not finish one with the screws sticking out and pour another and when it sets up flip it over onto the finished one then back over and let it harden. I was real fond of the train cake pans and the flower molds. Also used molds with holes in the center and sliped the finished double sided molds down lengths of pipe like a totem pole.

Two examples of the smaller ones. There a dozen of the ones on the left and eight of the ones on the right. Also found a fancy little cookie or biscuit sheet in with them. The muffin tin I keep in the cupboard and use often, but mostly for cornbread muffins. Because it is so difficult to clean afterwards and even cooking spray doesn't help the sticking, I use cupcake papers down inside. I'm showing it from the back because the designs can be seen more clearly. Yes, that's rust because of its age and also I figure from not drying it completely before being put away all these years. You see, that's why I like The Kitchen Table. Where else could I have fun dragging these out and sharing?

I went to the Jell-o site and looked for mold use info. I only found a reference to this one featured mold but the instructions are to spray lightly, one assumes with cooking spray. Here is a link that might be useful: Jell-o mold.

A hot towel will work also. But I always found the warm water works best.

I do have a thick glass jello mold. It is NOT easy to unmold. No matter what you do, you have to heat the mold to a point that you start to lose the details.

Mine is a bunny, so I just use it once a year.

Still, glass molds are beautiful, and are nice to decorate with. If you like it, get it, give it a try, and if it doesn't work to your satisfaction, you'll still have a pretty piece to work into your decor.

I've neer seen a glass jello mold, only metal (copper). Could it be a chocolate mold?

Waaaaa, it's gone. Boo hoo. But I went online and found one that looks nearly like it on Ebay to give you an idea.
