Sorry for long delay in replying--I only go on line about once a week and missed last week's opportunity. Hubby solved the problem with a new ink cartridge. It was probably that all along. It was just that I couldn't for the life of me find where to "troubleshoot" that printer. My Lexmarks are so simple even I can do them--lol. Thanks all for the recommendations. I'll save them for "next time", as I'm sure there'll be one. Jann

Witz- you are almost right, except there's nothing listed in control panel for this all-in-one except the photography portion. However, I discovered quite by accident that if I go into a wordfile and click File > Print > Properties, a tab comes up that says Printer Services. And if you click on that, it says "Open HP toolbox" !!!!!!! It gave me exactly what I needed. Except for the knife, gun, or bazooka I'm going to use on my husband for ***not*** telling me he'd put in an ancient cartridge--that would have imediately alerted me to the fact that the red ink was probably dried up. Soon as we put in a fresh new one, it printed just fine. and having found the tool box, I could run the tests to make sure all was as it should be. I do thank all of you so much for your continuing efforts to help. You're all welcome to come visit hubby in the hospital, if he survives what I entend to do to him! Cheers, Jann

Yes a reinstall would be the first step. A basic Google search provided a link to the HP Forums regarding the recommended uninstall of your prior AIO. I have tagged it below. I also found this. You would have to decide if it is relevant to your concern. I have the same 3 in 1 printer. When you scan, it asks the destination, select File and then hit the button with the right arrow - this displays a list of computers that are connected to your WLAN. Your DH's name is probably the first on on the list, and yours the second. Down arrow to your computer name and then hit OK.
