Best washer/dryer for 2nd floor install?
Comments (9)macavity, you're welcome! It's easy to find a tac shop in your area, just Google. I found one within less than 7 miles of my house. Most will carry the stall mats for cridders. Save the leftovers, as you never know when you might need a piece of good rubber! If it is possible for you, you can also wedge a piece or two of rubber between your washer and whatever it's next to near the top of the washer for even more vibration protection of off balanced loads. I was able to do that on the right side of my washer as it is near a cabinet. There's too much space between my w/d to do it on the left side of the washer. Even on the one side it helps for less vibration if my load isn't perfectly balanced. I got that idea from seeing some guy use those swimming noodles wedged between his w/d and wall. Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y91onCb7nSc&NR=1 Also, don't know if your w/d will go side by side but if so I would have the entire area reinforced and lay one big piece underneath both units. My house is 30+ years and there's a raised platform with a drain for just the washer, so I could not do that without ripping the tile platform out to make it level. As for finishing off the bare plywood reinforcement, we just left the plywood without tiling/etc, and cut the mat to completely cover the area, and had quarter-round placed to finish the edges. The mat was cut so that it comes right up to the quarter-round, completely covering the plywood. We can see the mat and although it's by no means a design statement, ... the look doesn't bother us. I guess you could say it has that "industrial" look. :) Keep in mind that if you cut the rubber so it doesn't show at all to be hidden underneath the units, it might be difficult to place the washer and dryer (especially the heavy washer) perfectly on the mat so that the feet are not falling off the edge of the rubber. Those washers are heavy! Our installers had a difficult enough time getting the washer placed,...I don't see how they could have placed it on a piece of rubber that was cut even to the exact size of the washer, let alone a slightly smaller piece that wouldn't show. I hope I'm making sense here....:) Good luck to you!...See MoreSecond floor washer and dryer anybody?
Comments (5)Both the Samsung with VRT and the Electrolux wave touch washer are virtually silent, even when Max spinning at about 1350 RPM. I however, do not like Samsung products at all. I had bad experiences with a Samsung VRT washer and dryer, a Samsung cell phone and a Samsung computer monitor. They are into everything, and I think they have spread themselves too thin. They provide horrible customer service (both my Mom and I experienced this first hand). Electrolux has very friendly and usually helpful customer service. I think the only problem with Electrolux is their inferior build materials (a lot of parts and plastics feel thin, fragile and cheap)...but the washing machine is SO quiet, balanced and works quite well!!! For sure do not get a Miele W48xx series. There is nothing on the market built so well, and the cleaning and care for the clothing is, IMO, unmatched! But....Miele does not use any anti-vibration technology, so the machine is whisper quiet while washing and usually while rinsing, but the spin cycles can be VIOLENT!!!...See MoreAdd a washer & ventless dryer to 2nd floor closet?
Comments (15)I am currently remodeling and getting the Bosch 800 washer and ventless dryer based on reviews and recommendations from my very savvy neighbor. I have no idea where the information is coming from regarding six hour cycles but based on the user manual, that is not true of the Bosch and the washer and dryer hold quite a bit - again look at the specifications regarding how many towels can be done in a load. I would think the convenience of doing laundry where it is created and then unloading it where it is returning make it a highly desirable addition - so what If you have to do an extra load or two in the course of a week :-) There is not significant vibration with a Bosch - Bosch is known for exceptionally quiet appliances. The reason I am going with the Bosch is twofold - first the dryer hooks into the washer so installation is simple. Second, they have an amazing water alarm season which is critical for a washer located where a flood would cause a lot of damage. The Bosch 800 has two flood safeguards - the hose is double lined and there is also an integrated water alarm system and pan - if the alarm senses water, the machine stops and no more water goes into the machine and the pan holds any water that has leaked through. If there is anyway of finding space for the 24" stackable units, I would certainly do so....See MoreHow to raise compact washer dryer off the floor
Comments (7)Here's a link to a stand that can raise compact (24-inch) laundry machines about 6 inches from the ground: ELP Pan Stand at Home Depot There are some videos on YouTube that explain how the air cushion feature works for moving the appliance across the floor. It is made of a heavy duty plastic. The GE compact 24-inch washer/dryer set may be below the maximum weight limit for the ELP Pan Stand, however, I would have my reservations about using it to support both the washer and the dryer given that the small stacking kit brackets that hold the dryer in place don't seem to be strong enough to keep the dryer secure if there is too much movement, or tilt angle, while moving the washer/dryer set. Another option could be to talk with a commercial laundry dealer to see if they may have a 6-inch pedestal from another brand that could be drilled to hold the GE compact set with the appropriate brackets at the base of the washer....See Morerosesr4me
