Comments (21)The type of lighting that is typically on its own switch includes pendant lights and over sink lights. This allows for more control over the lighting in specific areas of the kitchen. In terms of combining lights, you can consider combining the under cabinet lighting with the pot lights to provide overall ambient lighting in the kitchen. The pendant lights over the seated counter can be combined with the over sink light to create a focused task lighting area for food preparation or other activities at the counter. For the room size of 10'x16', having 6 pot lights should provide adequate lighting coverage. For outlet locations, it is recommended to have outlets installed along the countertops for convenient use of small appliances. Additionally, consider adding outlets near the seated counter for charging devices or using small appliances while seated. Be sure to follow local electrical codes and regulations when determining outlet locations....See MorePendant Overload? Modern Pendant Light Pairings in Open Concept House
Comments (15)@ RL - very good points re: cleaning. @groveraxle - goodness, I love your candor. Here's the thing. Those are knock-off Beat pendants and they're served me over the last 5 years but I'm ready for an update. They are also very low wattage so provide very little down lighting. I'm also SUPER fussy about finishes matching, and I'm doing chrome faucets and pulls. I don't like brushed + chrome look lol. I'm picky-picky. We have vaulted 16+ foot ceilings and the space feels large at over 20 feet long (even though the island breaks up the middle), I really feel like we need pendants over the island to break up the space. But I am definitely going to hold off on the pendants over the eating bar. @Patricia Colwell - i love that look but probably for another room. Thank you so much everyone!...See MoreQuestion re positioning of pot lights and pendant lights.
Comments (2)It might seem like semantics, but there are no "rules" of spacing lights. It is based on fixture size, lumens, throw, and the use and design of the space. When you do enough of a design though, basic patterns start repeating for the same set of variables. For a proper lighting layout, I would suggest drawing the plan to scale. Use 1 square = 6" and show thickness of walls. It looks like you are adding lighting to an existing untouched kitchen. So soffits, stove hood/cab above, and cabinet above ref usually act as snags to think about....See Morenycbluedevil
