Fall activities and apples

Yes, it's that time of year. The apples are just becoming available and my local grocery had MacIntosh, one of my favorite cooking apples, for $6.99 a bushel. Now, they were the "utility grade" apples from a local orchard, so they varied widely in size, from "average" to "gigantic", like these:

Still, it was a beautiful bushel:

Right now I have about half a bushel in the dehydrator, that's as much as it will hold, and I started a batch of apple butter, and got five of those 12 ounce jars:

We also made about 15 pounds of fresh Italian sausage for the freezer, we were out and I have all that pork...

I love this time of year, and I can see a big batch of Nancy's apple maple jam in my very near future.
