Yes, there are still a lot of honest people. My eldest granddaughter dropped her wallet in the parking lot of a restaurant and somebody turned it in. Not a thing was missing from the wallet.

It cheers me up when I hear stories like this. Most of us want to do what's right. Earlier this week, I got a bill that I thought was $10 too much. I called......I did indeed owe the extra. Today I got a statement from another company crediting me for $60 that I -knew- wasn't mine. It was tempting for about a second, then I picked up the phone and called to get the credit removed.

The other day I found a cell phone outside a plaza. It was a phone I was unfamiliar with, but I played around with it and called one of the numbers.
The lady I was talking to wasn't all that helpful....she wanted me to give HER my address, and she would come and pick up the phone and give it to the person who she thought it belonged to. I told her that it would be better if she gave ME the owner's number and I'd call him myself. (to verify the rightful owner).

Long story short, I met the young fellow who owned the phone and he was thrilled that it was found and that I tracked him down.

Someone found my wallet at walmart and turned it in to the police station...didn't take a dime of the $700 in it. I sent her a thank you card and a hundred dollar gift card.

Refreshing. :-) I believe more people are basically honest than not too. It is just that we only hear of the bad apples.

I was at a home supply store last week and had lots of things to load into my car. I walked the cart to the cart return area and drove away. A few miles down the road I realized that I'd left my purse in the cart! I whipped around quickly and went back, sure to see that it was gone.

Nope, there it was, sitting just as plain as day in the seat part of the cart, people walking past it and looking at it. Nobody touched it.

It's so good to know that some things do have happy endings. I wish the local news channels would feature some stories like this and give us something to feel good about. Kids never hear about the good things that happen...only the bad.

Several years ago while on vacation we stopped at a Burger King for lunch. After we left and got about 45 minutes down the road, I realized that I didn't have my purse. Now, the Burger King we stopped at was not in the best neighborhood, so I really didn't expect to see the purse or the vacation money again. This was before cell phones, so we had to turn around and go back, without much hope. Well, we got there and they had it behind the counter. They asked me to describe the purse and then gave it to me. I offered a reward that they refused. Nothing had been touched inside the purse.

I totally believe there are so many more good, honest people than there are dishonest people.

I definitely believe the dishonest are far outnumbered. And not to minimize or detract from the kindness the person did by turning in your coupons, but I have to wonder what would have happened had there been a couple hundred dollars in there instead of coupons and glasses?

I found a checkbook one time in the parking lot of my apartment. It was easy enough to track the owner since address and apt. # were on there. They were shocked to get it back. Various other times things like this happen and I just feel good to do the right thing. I've even been the beneficiary of a good deed. Last fall I was at Target and somehow left my wallet on the counter. Hadn't gone more than about three steps and a lady was going SIR!! SIR!! and handed me my wallet. I was very pleased.

Was with a friend in a store one day and heard her name being paged over the intercom. She went to the service desk and they had her cellphone! Someone found it and looked in the contacts and she has one just called "Me" so they called it and talked to her roommate who told the person she was at the store so the good Samaritan took it to the service desk and had her paged. That was a surprise.

When people go out of their way to do what's right, that really impresses me.

Do a good deed today. You'll feel great. Even something as simple as letting someone go first at an intersection or hold the door for someone. Will "what goes around" come around? I don't know, but it can't hurt. Well not very often.

I would be lost withought my cell phone, so I knew when I found one in the bathroom at the airport, I just had to try to find the owner. I called the last person on the call log and it was her son.

I didn't have much time, but he told me where she was headed, I looked at the board to find the gate and ran. I gave it to the attendant with a brief explanation and the womans name. As I was running away I heard them page her. I didn't have time to even see who it belonged to. I just know I would hope someone would do that for me!

This might be a good time to remind people about having an ICE number in a cell phone. It stands for In Case of Emergency.

Everyone should have an ICE number in their phone. If the phone is lost the finder can dial the ICE number and get a person who really knows the phone owner rather than just randomly dialing all the numbers in the phone list or all the last numbers the owner of the phone called that might be a retail store or bank or their dentist.

An ICE listing is useful in real emergencies too. If you are involved in a car crash or passed out in a store from a diabetic coma or heart attack or stroke, the paramedics or hospital can get hold of the person, usually a family member, who knows you best.

Another thing you can do..........If your phone has the ability to change the wallpaper to something personalized, you can take a face photo of yourself. This way if your phone is found immediately, like having fallen out of your purse in a dressing room or in a restaurant booth the finder can scan the room and get your phone back to you, sometimes even before you realize it is gone.

When you see or hear of someone doing something like that ... thank them for their consideration.

17 years ago in my sisters small town in Illinois...I was wrestling my kid into his car seat...he was fitful and kept unbuckling it...we had been in the grocery store to visit my sister in the deli she ran so I was just carrying my wallet...I sat it on top of the car...and of course...you know I got the kid in the car and drove off...and didn't remember it till a few minutes later when pulling into my sisters driveway...I rushed back...saw bits and pieces of my wallet strung across the highway...my sister said...go to the police station...my money...my credit cards...my passport...everything of value was in there and I was 400 miles from home...I walked into the police station and he's holding my passport up and chatting with my husband on the phone...I was so embarrassed that I had done a lamebrained thing...he just laughed...a women saw it fall off...stopped and picked it up and took it to the police station...but wouldn't leave her name...I wrote a letter to the editor of their small paper and he published my thank you note to the wonderful stranger who saved my vacation...

9 years ago our Duncan Doggie got out and took off...we looked and looked for over a week...he was tagged so we were thinking the worse that he'd been killed...sure enough a week to the day the phone rings and a women says "Are you Duncan's Mom? we flew outta the house and over to where he was some 10 miles away...that 80 pound dog jumped into my hubands arms...I pulled my husbands emergency cash from his glove compartment and gave it to them...they looked like they could use it and it will keep them honest...they didn't want to take it but I made them...Getting that doggie back was worth 100 times what we gave them...He said "Seeing that dog jump into your husbands arms was reward enough for me"...

and my last honesty story...At Christmas I was waiting in the car while my son went into a store and had put my purse down at my feet...my son came out to the car to ask me a question and opened the door instead of waiting for me to roll down the window...We get 5 miles away and to the next store and I have no purse...I raced back to where we were and a nice couple were sitting in their car waiting for me to come back...I had bought gas gift cards for my kids that day...I hopped outta the car and gave them one...the thought of losing my purse was by far more then I gave them...

Yes there really are lots of honest people still left in this big wide world and I thank my lucky stars to meet up with so many of them...If I had a nickel for every cell phone I've mailed to some passenger who's left it on the plane I could retire...I firmly believe that what go's around comes around...so I do my part in returning stuff I find (and believe me I find lots of stuff left on planes!)

But isn't ist funny how most of us think the worst, first.? Do we ever say, "Oh, I know my purse will be in tact", or, "my wallet will be where I left it". Is it so naive to believe that our mistake will be handled by an "honest" person?. People just don't give the benefit of the doubt, to others, which in my opinion is pretty sad, but probably more true to life.
