I'm afraid the new puppy will be too energetic! 2 pics

Wes is on his way to Georgia to pick up our new puppy. Samuel, "Sam," is Harry's second cousin, and out of the same kennel. He's also a great-grandson to our dear angel BeeGee, Harry's other mother.

I'm so worried about having another Deutsch Drahthaar puppy in the house. They're "puppies" for at least two years. Puppy minds locked inside 70-80 lb. doggie bodies with all the curiosity, extreme energy, and wild hunting drive the breed is bred for.

It's time to tighten our seatbelts; we're in for another long wild (but joyful) ride. Harry just turned 6 and is starting to almost act like an adult...as long as he gets unlimited, long hours of free range out on the prairie at least two or three times a week.

Here's our two choices, Sam and Samuel, in a rare quiet moment. Sam is on the left. We're getting the darker Samuel, who will be called "Sam."

Here's Harry. Can you see the family resembelance? LOL

I told Wes to take a good look at Samuel. That's the last time he'll see Sam being quiet and behaving!

It was Wes' choice. I really tried for the brown one.

Samuel is bigger. The breeder thinks he'll top the size charts like Harry did. Harry is nearly 80 lbs., his mother was only 45.

Wes wanted size to handle the upland hunting here. Samueal has a thicker, denser coat to stand up to the cattails, cold, and wet, also. Sam has a sparse coat like Harry's. Still, Sam has such a sweet face.

Wes took one look at this picture and said, "NO! It's another Harry. We can't train another Harry!" He was joking, but look at this face.

Sam is going to have a good home, too.

Duke is 4 months old and Sadie is 3 months. My baby Krypto is almost 2 yrs. He didn't like the new puppies at first, but now they play together really well. Duke and Sadie will have long hair. I was very specific when I picked out my dogs. I had a rough coat collie (long haired) when I was a girl. We did some breeding then. I decided I would like to try it again since it is something I can do from home. I am a real dog lover! I jokingly told DH that if he wasn't sure about the dogs I would trade my boys in for them..LOL The boys are the ones driving me crazy lately. The dogs are a welcome distraction. Cindyloo, you've been busy! If I decided to go with a conservative color door, I thought it might be a darker version of our siding color, SW Quiver Tan. It looks really good with our salmon-colored brick. Is there a darker version of Quiver Tan available on the websites tool? Awm03, of course I dont mind. I love seeing all ideas. We've been busy doing our side and back yard the past 2 years and have neglected our front. Seeing your mockup is an eyeopener. I really like the walkway opened up like that, it looks much more welcoming. Less grass would be great too, as grubs got alot of it this summer anyway. I was naive when we did our landscaping 15 yrs ago when the house was built. I was so anxious to have "something" and didnt have enough $$. I didnt research our landscaper or his ideas much. While the river birch is pretty, especially the bark, the location is terrible. It's a very messy tree in all 3 season's but winter. Our driveway and sidewalk are always covered with something, which tracks into the garage and then into the house, makes me nutty! But the tree is very happy. For a long time I hated how it blocked the view of our house, but now that its bigger, I've been liking the privacy it gives, and it is pretty (if I dont look down, lol). I'm debating having a landscape design done for an area in our backyard that has me stumped. I could include a design for the front too as you suggested. I've never considered moving the walkway. Natal, yes, the roots are an issue...they are starting to lift up the sidewalk next to the driveway. So maybe its a good excuse to get a new sidewalk :) geez, I promised my husband if I could just get that backyard part finished and a new front door, I'd be done "decorating" outside. cant wait to show him this new idea :)

I have to laugh a little that you think your kitchen has a lot of color going on and you're afraid adding the wood will make it look like a circus...Since my kitchen has 3 counter materials, 3 different backsplashes, and 4 colors of cabinets! :-) Your choices are lovely and will really work well together. But all of that makes it stranger, perhaps, that I'm not sure about this idea. I don't personally feel that a peninsula is a natural division, since it's a flow of the same counter. An island is completely separate, and I could see a change if there was a wall or something going on in the corner to physically separate the areas, or if there was a change in height. Also, I'm a little more nervous about wood around a main cleanup sink... Anyway, I'd like to see the layout and/or better photos to give a real opinion...I do think it can be done, but think it might take some finessing to get it to look right. Another idea to consider...Maybe 1 or 2 inset butcher block areas?

Yes, Angel is either a Briard or a Briard mix. My daughter Jill found her as a puppy hit (but unhurt) on a road. I named her Angel because I thought she was the collie-shepherd of my dreams, sent from Heaven to see me through menopause. :-) She looked so different then, with gold-tipped brown hair. But then she got a little older and produced all that facial hair, and the brown hair was replaced by long grey hair. I didn't know what a Briard was, but when I saw a picture of one in a dog book, I said, "That's Angel!" I sent her photo to a Briard breeder, who confirmed the ID. Angel has the Briard personality, too, in spades. However, Angel is 16. Briards don't usually live past 12, at least that's what a breeder told me. So I'm thinking maybe she has some hybrid vigor. It's always been a mystery why a Briard puppy would be abandoned on the road, as Jill thought she was. Jill said she had that confused look of a dog who had been left. Angel has a white chest, which I know is a flaw in the show ring for that breed. Thanks for asking! I love to talk about my dogs. :-)

LOL I LOVE Harry's sleeping position. He can hardly fit in that cage!
It won't be long before little Sam will be imitating him. We found that Roxie the youngest cat (1 1/2 yrs), started imitating Bud (the 3 yr old) in no time.

As dog mom to a 5.5 year old Lab and a 5 year old Rot I know what you're in for. Enjoy the ride.

I completely understand how you feel about Harry. My old dog Max(RIP) was my heart dog and always will be but there is always room for more. Love grows and keeps on giving.

They are so precious...I know what you mean about having a puppy in an adult body...I think sometimes dogs never lose their puppy stage...We have an 8 year old collie who still acts like he's a puppy...very mannerly but still likes to romp and play! Good luck with your new baby!!

Yeah, they all look cute when they're sleeping! :) Seriously, puppyhood is *intense* and we're just now getting past the "I-wanna-die-young-so-I'm-gonna-chew-on-electric-wire" stage.

Have fun with the new pup! And Teddy says "hello". As I'm writing this, she just abandoned a fresh beef bone so she could gnaw on the runner of the rocking chair.

LOVE bird dogs, they are beautiful~ They look a lot like pointers? I like the darker one too. I have 2 4-year old rescues and they are so much fun to watch together.
