Is this a crazy idea for a shower sliding panel?
Comments (6)So it would be sort of like one half of a bypass door? It seems like it would work as long as you could support all that weight with your bar system. Our new bath has just the (fixed) panel on the right, but our controls are on the left. I can see how with your setup, you'd want to get the warm water going, then close the panel and enter on the left. I wondered if we'd have a lot of oversplash into the room, since we didn't do a door and have a wide opening, but it has surprised me how limited the splash area is. And I don't get cold because the room isn't drafty (unlike this old house we're in now). So people may tell you they wouldn't like it for those reasons, but in my experience, that hasn't been a problem. Anyway, it seems doable to me if designed properly....See MoreWet Wallpaper applications - meant for shower
Comments (11)millworkman, yes, that is my only hesitation. I suppose someone has to be the guinea pig and try these things in real work applications. Was hoping to find at least one other 'real' person who had tried before though. I need to find the European equivalent of this forum I guess. chartist - wallpaper designer, that is very cool! They make claims that there is no problem using normal bathroom cleaning products on the finish, but as millwork says, will that still be the case five years from now? If you have a moment watch the video on installation - it takes a few days to complete it it looks like. Not technically difficult I don't think, but it takes time. Sophie - do you mean tile murals? I've been looking at some, but they can't compare. Plus I'd be happy to never deal with tile again (but I know I will)....See MoreUpdate on wet system wallpaper for shower
Comments (44)Hi again, he is travelling so I just spoke to him in the phone. LMK if this doesn’t make sense. The silicone seal is the last step and primarily is to protect the wallpaper, not to prevent water infiltration, although of course it helps. First step is the cement board - wall and deco says you can install over regular drywall, probably okay but my contractor put in cement board appropriate for a wet space. Then waterproof Kerdi (Schluter?) membrane covering pretty much everywhere, overlapping appropriately. Wall and Deco have a water proof product that is applied to seams (and the whole wall I believe). This requires three coats over a number of days. Finally the silicone, which my contractor recommends be reapplied or touched up every year or so to provide additional protection the very bottom of the wallpaper. This video about Kerdi membrane and Kerdi band may help. We’ve been using the shower for a year now, still love it and no signs of wear or damage. Good luck....See MoreShower “wet” wallpaper is up
