Can I cover wallpaper with plastic? :)
Comments (12)Woah! Marcolo, after reading about that, I want to vinylize my whole home! These suggestions are useful. I'm thinking perhaps wallpaper elsewhere and using maybe a plain vinyl paper in the alcove or getting a super water-resistant paint over the tub. Oddly enough it's the smoothest looking wall in the bathroom so it might look okay painted. I wouldn't know how to pick a complementary tile to go up there. It's got a very finished edge. It does get wet when adults use the shower--the tile only goes up 5 feet. The wall has no business being in such good condition, but the shower fixture is a comparatively recent addition. I've definitely checked out savethepinkbathrooms--mine ain't pink enough! The flamingo wallpapers don't match. :) Most colors that work with pink just don't go. It's a peachy tannish pink. Thanks for the suggestions. I guess there are better options than paneling my wallpaper....See MoreWallpaper over shower - crazy idea?
Comments (12)In 1987, two friends (non-professionals) wallpapered our bathroom as a gift to us, while my family and I were out of the country. The only "venting" in the bathroom has been -- the window! And yes, the wallpaper began to peel-- about two years ago, after more than 15 years of lots of hard use as the only tub/shower in this 110-year-old house. I'd say--go for it!...See MoreUpdate on wet system wallpaper for shower
Comments (44)Hi again, he is travelling so I just spoke to him in the phone. LMK if this doesn’t make sense. The silicone seal is the last step and primarily is to protect the wallpaper, not to prevent water infiltration, although of course it helps. First step is the cement board - wall and deco says you can install over regular drywall, probably okay but my contractor put in cement board appropriate for a wet space. Then waterproof Kerdi (Schluter?) membrane covering pretty much everywhere, overlapping appropriately. Wall and Deco have a water proof product that is applied to seams (and the whole wall I believe). This requires three coats over a number of days. Finally the silicone, which my contractor recommends be reapplied or touched up every year or so to provide additional protection the very bottom of the wallpaper. This video about Kerdi membrane and Kerdi band may help. We’ve been using the shower for a year now, still love it and no signs of wear or damage. Good luck....See MoreSochi bathroom reveal: shower wallpaper + silestone shower pan
Comments (41)Hi Sochi and Kristin, gorgeous wallpaper projects! I am in correspondence with several Italian fiber glass wallpaper suppliers now and all of them have different waterproofing methods. The main issue I am finding is that the substrate needs to be white in color and smooth. Sochi mentioned the contractor used Schluter KERDI-BOARD but it is orange, so how did you eventually get it white? Krisitin what did your contractor do for substrate? What products were used to waterproof the wall before the application of the glue, wallpaper and sealants? My other concern is that the drywall or cement board (depending on what to use) has to sit on top of my shower pan so I fear it will absorb water is not properly waterproofed. Any guidelines and suggestions will be highly appreciated. Alex...See MoreMrs. S
