Wall sconces for cottage living room

I am looking for wall sconces for a cottage living room. The living room is approx 14x10. The wall is approx. 7ft long, painted yellow with white beadboard wainscot (4ft high) and 4 inch crown molding. I looked in this forum and under lighting but nothing came up. If anyone has any photos of their sconces I would love to see them. The electrician is coming next week to do the prelim wiring so I need to make a decision of whether to do this or not. I think it would add to the wall plus provide some lighting in what could be in a dark area. We would eventually put some kind of art work in the middle. If there is another kind of lighting you can see better there pls tell! I'm open to all suggestions! Sorry I can't provide a photo - for some reason can't get a photobucket account. It's not easy to suggest a sconce or any other wall art/decorations without knowing what you already have, the style/look of your room.

No photo bucket account?? I wonder what's up with that. There are other photo hosting sites, none come to mind right now but you can do a search. I think you'd get more help/advise w/ a photo.

Sometimes the "tone" in messages can be misunderstood, please don't think I am being rude, it certainly wasn't meant to be rude.

I like these for a cottagey look. You can get different shaped shades if you don't like the one on it in the pic.

Took a quick look at it while sitting in my recliner watching US Open golf this afternoon. Did this little exercise more for the lurkers out there as an illustration of the value of taking “internet plans” as a starting point towards something that might really work. This example moves away from a garage crudely slapped on the back, as well as bedrooms looking at a scenic 10’ side yard. We may end up meeting with an architect but I feel like I need to start with an existing... plan to help me “see” it better since I’m so visual. Not a thing in the world wrong with that as long as it’s not code for being unwilling to trust your designer and incapable of taking the leap of faith necessary for a true collaborative effort required for a successful project I described in my posts above. The first drawing is the “big idea” as it came out of my head. In architect speak it’s called the “Parti”. That drawing took 20 minutes. Just to get a framework, I assumed a 30’ clearance around the tree. That number is pulled totally out of thin air and may prove to be completely out in left field once an arborist is on the scene but for this exercise I needed a starting pointing point to give me the “build box”, the box defined by setbacks, easements and any special considerations, like your tree, so I arbitrarily chose 30’. The second drawing is the cleaned up version so someone besides myself could understand it. This one took an hour. Still very rough and parts of it doesn't really work well yet, but it shows all the relationships which all DO work well. Note, even in the first, “big idea” drawing, I’m thinking elevations simultaneously with the plan so a couple elevation ideas are developed here. At this point they don’t work 100% with the plan but at least we’re out of the starting gate with everything being designed simultaneously. My area calcs are equally as rough and likely on the skimpy side. I’m figuring the final house will be in the 1800-1850SF range. Good luck in your project…..and to all the lurkers, your projects too! I would select the area to the right as you enter as your dining room and ground with a rug and a chandelier. If you made if informal and comfortable enough, you could also use as an office area, crafts area, etc. and would be welcoming vs coming into a formal dining room. Without know your furniture, it's hard to recommend the set up for the living room, but if starting from scratch, work with an on line room planner, including the doorways, etc. and play around with layouts and base it on your needs as well. Look for inspiration pictures as well.

Wouldn't this be tricky? There is a little hole in the wall where I installed the sconce so would need to drill a hole in the wall and fill up this existing hole, or have a wire go from the hole to another place.

This is my favorite place to buy lighting. In my summer cottage, I have the St Helen sconces over my fireplace, in a brushed brass finish. In our upstairs bathroom, I have the Selma (in the funky green color) over the mirror.

Thank you so much Budge and Sue! These are definitely the styles I was thinking of for our cottage! I just needed a little push in the right direction and you both did it!

Maidin and Brutuses: for whatever reason I can't seem to get a photobucket account - maybe they don't take Hotmail accounts - that has happened to me before. I will see if I can learn to post a photo directly to GW as I see so many others do. I do have a Shutterfly account so maybe that would work - I'll give it a go soon. Thanks.

Not to confuse you anymore, but we are also doing a cottage look and I found my sconces as well as a few overhead pendants in the outdoor section. My sconces are from Hinkley. They are very simple with seeded glass.

Kulagal, all you need to do is go to http://tinypic.com/ and you don't need an account. Just Browse, and upload, then sweep/copy the first URL that comes up in your post. Oh, some nonsense comes up first but ignore it and wait and you'll get the urls.

Did you go to our Gallery and look at the Show Me Your Cottage Decor thread? It has hundreds of gorgeous cottage decorating pics in it. I think you'll love it and probably see some sconces you like.

Les: another charming sconce! I have seen other faux candle sconces as well and like them very much - thanks to the others directing me to various sites.

Oceanna: thank you so much for directing me to the Gallery and your file of cottage rooms - how fab is this! When I have more time I will really peruse the thread. I took a peak and loved it - some so beautiful. I will also try the tinypic link and see if that works.

I also went to the accessorizing thread (I think you made the suggestion) and found Judith's table decos - how wonderful! You opened up another part of GW I hadn't explored yet - too busy on the remodel!

This is what my wall looks like and where I would like to put 2 sconces. The Entertainment Center will eventually be replaced with a flatscreen and low EC. The fireplace will remain where it is (with eventually its black chimney)and the wall will be closed up where there was a door. Thanks Oceanna for helping me out with posting the photo! Now I can properly show GWebbers what I'm trying to do! You're the best!
