I am glad I bought lots of Freedom stamps when I had the chance.
But it will still be more expensive to send packages, etc, especially to Japan.

Not again! That's three increases in three years!

I tried to buy some more Forever stamps (for Christmas cards) and they were out of them I'll try tomorrow I hope I can stock up on the forever 42¢ ones

I'm still trying to use up my 41-centers!

I've still got sheets of 32 cent stamps. And bunches of 'make-up' stamps that are all out of date.

Once I got on the internet and started email and online bill pay, I used less and less, and right now I can't even remember the last time I licked a stamp. I don't even send out holiday cards anymore.

I guess they have to find a way to pay the salaries of the Carriers so they can keep bringing all that junk mail! I'm sure they don't like carrying all that extra weight either - especially in bad weather.

dilly-dally, your makeup stamps are still good. If you don't know what denomination they are, you can search Google to find out. I know I had some that didn't have a price on them, but found out that way.

Doesn't surprise me at all. The postal service have also been talking about dropping one day of service a week, and Tuesday was mentioned. Here is an idea, I agree with only five days delivery, but the dropped day should be Monday. That would take in the several holiday Mondays. Because if they made it Tuesdays as the skipped day, then the week where a holiday Monday fell, there would be two days in a row with no mail delivery.Actually it would be three days with no delivery because Sunday is in there. I remember the Pony Express.........just kidding.

I do remember the violet colored 'Lincoln' stamps being ubiquitous when I was a kid. One day I found my mother's old love letters to my dad in shoeboxes, and was dazzled by the three cent stamps, especially the commemorative ones. I decided then as a kid, to take up stamp collecting. I was allowed to steam off the stamps from all these old letters. Under the stamps I found writing. Apparently my mother wrote good luck type stuff under the stamps when she mailed the letters to my dad. Sort of a voodoo spiritualism that rural folk used I guess. Things like "true love" and "let this be the one". Weird. But apparently it worked. :)

Sadly, the carriers won't see a dime of the increase. It'll go for so-called expenses.....like CEO salaries (or whatever the PO calls their mucky mucks) Just like corporations laying off the the hundreds, but by golly, let's don't make the CEO's give up millions in "bonuses".
I don't see how the latter can sleep at night.

My rural carrier told me last summer that her pay had been cut by $6K on the year after the yearly audit.

She then asked that I try and schedule my package pick-ups on line as opposed to leaving a note in the box that there was a prepaid package to be picked up at the back door.

By not scheduling them, the 'audit' never acknowledged them as as a package she had had to pick-up. I thought that sad, and have since scheduled my pick-ups on line.

Once I scheduled it, and late in the day it had not been picked up. I called the PO and was told it had not printed out that AM. Since I could not leave, and really needed the box to go out (live plants) a PO employee came out and picked it up. I had proof that I had scheduled it, and gave him the printout as proof. He said he would pass the word on so maybe the problem could be found and fixed.

Going forward, I will schedule pick-ups on line, but will additionally put a note in my box, in case the printout does not print for them at the PO sometime in the future.

I have to admit, the folks at MY PO and the carriers are really nice and try to do the best job they can.

Just got back from talking with a neighbor who works for the PO. They were all told that their health care is being cut down and so are their retirement benefits.

Of course they are not going to be living in poverty. Postal workers have been a bit spoiled. Most working people never got health insurance with their jobs in the first place or have any retirement package at all to look forward to.
