Honestly, I hadn't noticed any slowdown. But then again, I have barely been on lately. I'm swamped at work, and have all sorts of things being planned for the family and such. I've been checking in, but had little time to post. I have a hard time believing anyone would leave over a comment made about where pictures should be posted(I made such a comment, but don't know if this is referring to me or just a general thing). For further thoughts on this see Dianas post. I agree with her fully. I am also guilty of posting a pic thread, but rarely commenting in others threads. To be honest, it takes a lot for me to post a comment on pictures. I'm not going to post in everyones thread just for the sake of proper board etiquette(what is that old saying? If you can't say something nice...). I'm not that kind of guy. If you do something extraordinary, trust me, I'll comment. JMO, I am sorry if you feel judged. Trust me, this is not the case. I have been coming here for a couple years now, and it has always been a great place to talk gardening. Sure, there are those that have been here forEVER, and all seem to know each other, and post more than others, but newcomers are always welcome, regardless of posting habits. Lets not look too deep into this folks. We're all busy people who love gardening. This forum is a great way to share our interest. Post how, where, and when you want to, but use common sense when doing it. Simple as that.

Wow, I just read your story. That is TERRIBLE! I agree with everyone else -- you are being discriminated against and I think it is worth suing them. But you have to weigh the emotional and time costs of suing. If you have the time and you think it will help protect someone else in the future as well as provide some closure to you, then do it. If not -- if it will only add to your stress -- and you think you can let it go, then move on to your next apartment and enjoy your life. I will tell you that we almost moved into an apartment in which this could have been us. We needed to find a bigger apartment because we were planning to have a baby. We found one that we thought we liked, though it was a bit expensive for us. We negotiated the rent down a bit and signed the lease. That night I had a panic attack about it because the owner of the apartment, who lived below this apartment, had gone on and on about the previous tenant who had a child that cried a lot. He said something about not knowing our plans but assumed we wouldn't be the same kind of tenants. It worried me because babies cry. You have no idea what your child's temperment is going to be like and I realized that if we were lucky enough to get pregnant and have a baby, this guy and his wife could potentially make our lives miserable (including but not limited to increasing our rent significantly). The next day we backed out of the lease (at great expense to us). Several months later, we found an even better apartment (and I was pregnant by then) that was less expensive. The landlord is a peach. I have asked him numerous times whether my son's crying or his toddling (or his periodic sippy cup drops from his high chair) bothers him or his brother. He always responds by saying things like "babies cry" or "I hope we aren't too loud for you!" It is SO nice to be in a space where you can just live your lives and not have to worry all of the time. We are all respectful of one another as well as understanding. It makes such a difference! I hope this new apartment will provide you with the same kind of safe-haven we have found with our apartment. You deserve it! But, just in case you find that someone complains about noise in your new place, you can always try corkboard for the ceiling.... Hang in there! I am sure this nasty woman who has forced this on you will have her day. Her negative energy is bound to come back and bite her in the bum one of these days... Jen

I think that with people like your neighbour you really have to put your foot down. You do what you can practically do (not using ear phones) and then you tell them that you have made some changes and that is all you can do. If you continue to appease a him he will continue to make demands and wants to rule the building. Perhaps you are an easy target. I moved into a place and after 20 years of apartment living and never having a neighbour complain about my noise, my new downstairs neighbours started complaining about my noise. That was that my tv was too loud and they could hear it in their lounge under mine and in their bedroom. The night the wife came up to complain I had the volume on 4 when 2 is silent. I couldn't hear it in the next room of my own apartment. I moved the tv away from the wall and then next day told them what I had done. However, I then added - I have done all i can do. My television is not at an unreasonable volume and I have to be able to live in my home. If it continues to be a problem then you may have to contact the body corporate (as they own their apartment) and the owners of my apartment (as I rent which i think also explains their power feeling) and organise to have the sound proofing improved in the floors (which are floor boards with carpet). Other than that I do not think an indepenent body would think the volume of my tv was unreasonable. I really got the idea that these people were going to keep coming up with things if I didn't put my foot down. They did it all in a very nice way - but this is often passive aggressive behaviour to get their own way. So don't get pushed around. Ps they haven't complained since. But I also doubt they want to fork out money to fix the sound proofing. The only thing now is that I notice their sound more - one being the sound of the husband talking on the phone and they both irritate the hell out of me now. Oh yes prior to this complaint they complained about my son's basket ball hoop in the common garden area and their cat bullies my cat all the time and attacked me when I tried to stop it coming in to my home after my cat so I had to get a tetnus shot and go on antibiotics. When I origanally told them about what had happened with their cat their was no offer to pay my medical bills. So I am glad that I then set them straight and made it clear that I was not going to put up with their constant nit picking. They have been super nice since but I now don't want a bar of them. No, no subwoofer. Perhaps I was unclear. It's obvious that the fan is not the problem. The sound doesn't come from the fan, it seems to come from the attic or somewhere in the walls when different switches are flipped on. It just so happens that one of the things on those switches is a fan and I noticed it there first. It also makes the noise on a hall light and when the thermostat clicks on, all of which are close to each other and likely on the same circuit. I can't recreate the sound at will, it doesn't happen every time or even every day. So hopefully the electrician can still figure out what is going on. I read elsewhere on the web about "arching" being one possibility. Or a ground wire accidentally touching a hot in the panel box. Hopefully it's not too expensive of a fix and isn't dangerous. Thankfully we have Nest Protect smoke alarms that will notify our phones if there is smoke when we aren't home, so that makes me feel better. I mentioned static because I live in Alabama and this just started happening at the same time as our coldest weather yet. Everything is super dry and cold, and my heat has flipped to auxiliary a few times. Not sure how/if it connects, probably not, but that was my thinking. The electrician should be here tomorrow afternoon and ill update after I know what the issue was. In the meantime, any more suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks! Jen
