Holiday Gift Wrapping & Organizing: How Do You Do It???
Comments (35)excel spreadsheets? lists? rooms dedicated to wrapping? Sheesh that's far too organized for me. I thought just getting the ornaments organized by tree was a HUGE undertaking! For wrapping I use the desperately rushed, christmas is in 4 hours, need a bottle of wine approach. I spread out the entire mess of crap with a hole in the middle for me and the wine, and begin digging my way out carefully :p I actually am organized when it comes to the decorations though. I have one attic for trees, one for ornaments that go on the trees that are on the 3rd and 4th floor as well as the decoration, and then I store the decorations and ornaments for the first floor and second floor are kept on the second floor. Less hauling down (and up) stairs that way :) I also label the boxes for the appropriate tree which is helpful when distributing boxes around the house. WHile I can obviously see what's vintage and what's traditional as well as all the other themes of a tree through the plastic boxes, I don't know how many vintage go to each tree unless I put them in separate boxes. THat leaves me just enough ornaments for each tree without taxing my little brain. I wish I could apply that kind of organization to presents LOL I do actually wrap all but the Santa ones in advance (so that's the 23rd verses the 24th btw) and those can go out under the main tree. I have been known to buy the same thing more than once...perhaps that list idea is a good one LOL Gad a room dedicated to wrapping and holiday storage...well I'm a bit nutso over christmas (major santa barf is in EVERY room) so that would have to be a big big big room! But it's a lovely fantasy!...See MoreOrganizing jewelry while moving
Comments (6)It takes FOREVER, but the only success that I have with moving chain type jewelry is to buy a package of small zip top bags. Michaels or any craft shop has them...they are about 2" square. I put the CHAIN in the bag and leave the medallion hanging free, then gently zip it up (over the chain). They all go back into my jewelry box which I pad the inside cubbies with small chunks of bubble wrap and then tie shut with an old nylon. I had varied success with cutting small squares of lightweight cardboard. Cut a small slit in both sides of the square. Hook the medallion through one slit, wrap the chain around the card and put the catch through the other slit. It works, but not as well as the plastic baggies IMO. I have moved a LOT of times, can you tell?? LOL...See Morecan you move your organizing outside??
Comments (4)One of my outdoor organizing projects is the garage. I've lived in this house 1 year now. I've got the very basics done...hooks & hangers for gardening tools. All the rest is not done or even thought out yet. My goal last year was get basics put away and ensure I can park in the garage for winter (1 car garage). This year, I'll find correct spots for the bigger things...mower, spreader, trike & kid outdoor toys...and the like....See MoreAnyone help you with Christmas organizing, etc?
Comments (55)I don't keep a notebook, just an Excel file with my holiday gift list-name of recipient, what I gave them, cost and notes (unique, regift etc). I've got those going back for probably 10 years. I also have a system for my holiday supplies. I use plastic storage boxes and bins that are green or red (lid, box or both) so we know at a glance which ones are Christmas stuff. I've collected different sizes over the years so they can be fitted easily into the smallest space by stacking. Used to keep them in our garage loft and now have a storage closet inside that fits everything (boy is it nicer to have my stuff stay air conditioned and clean!). Each box is numbered with a label on the lid and at each end so easily readable from any direction. I create a master sheet that lists each box number and the contents. It makes it incredibly simple to do holiday prep. I can tell my husband to pull down boxes 1 and 3 which contain respectively the holiday lights and decorations.. I put aside boxes 2 and 5 which contain tabletop decor and linens. And I don't even take down box 4 which is my wrapping supplies until I get ready to do that. Each year when I take everything down I review and cull, and once everything is boxed up and put away I print out my master sheet, put it inside a plastic sleeve and put it on top of one of the boxes. Next year presto-get the sheet, take down the supplies and we're ready to go. No digging around or wondering where the heck did I put x or y. No decorating the tree then discovering a bunch of ornaments I wish I'd put on etc. My other holiday system is actually becoming extinct. I keep a Word file in Avery label format of all the addresses for people to whom I'm sending holiday cards. All I have to do is insert the sheet of labels, print and I"m ready to go. I sent out almost 50 cards this year however in the past 5 or so years I'm noticing people don't really do Christmas/holiday cards any more. I got maybe 15 cards this year and I honestly think at least a third were from folks who felt guilty after receiving one from me! I"m not sure what I want to do next year. I love doing my cards but I really don't want to make any one feel badly and I suspect receiving a card triggers that in the recipient who isn't doing them any more....See Morewestvillager
