Wow - great job!!! Painting the cabinets really brightened up the whole room & I love your floors :)

I also love the plates above the cabinets. I am doing only 30" cabs & I'm thinking of ways to use that extra space.

Thank you - I also installed rope lighting on top. My Uncle is an electrician and wired it all up with a switch. It looks great at night! It truly was a kitchen remodel on a budget, but I love it!!!

I hope you don't mind me suggesting this, so feel free to ignore me, because I don't at all mean it as a criticism, just an observation...If you can afford it sometime, you could really jazz up your fridge area by getting an end panel and pulling the cabinet above the fridge out so that it appears to be 24", --and you could reach it! But it looks like you might enjoy the opportunity to use magnets on the side of the fridge, so maybe you don't want to cover it up. :-)

But you really have done wonders with what you started with. It had 'good bones,' but you made it so elegant and appealing. I love the feel the plates and Crab Pot sign help create.

Normally, I don't care for white cabinets but yours look great. How nice to have a relative to help with the lighting! Before floor was ok but your new floor is a definite wow-love the variations in the wood. The space looks bigger and brighter. Great job!!

Rhome - your post made me chuckle b/c I am doing my kitchen reno exactly the same as punkyman did for the fridge area (in fact, I believe we have the same refrigerator!)

My 3 year old has a set of alphabet magnets (I think those look the same too lol! - leapfrog?) & he knows that the only place he is allowed to use them is the outer black side panel of my stainless fridge. So even though my kd wanted to panel it up, I refused - I just couldn't take that space away from my little guy!

Keptoz...That's great that you stood your ground. Your little guy's use of the fridge side, I can tell, will give you far more joy than any finished panel. I planned my kitchen around having my kids working in there with me, so I totally understand!

What a lovely change. So crisp and bright. I especially love the white cabinets against those beautiful warm floors. Congratulations on a job well-done, especially since it was done on a budget.

And I completely get the desire to have somewhere to put those magnets. If we hadn't kept one side of our frig exposed I don't know what we'd do with all the school flyers and calendars and carpool rosters and takeout menus.

You all are so nice, thank you! My youngest son who is 3 is BIG into learning his letters and letter sounds - hence the reason for the magnets. That is all we have on the side of the fridge. We have a magnet board that is hung above the desk, which you can see (the desk, not the magnet board) in the first picture. We bought the house back in December and loved everything about it, except for the kitchen and cabinets throughout. Our bathroom cabinets were painted black with a hint of brown - they look fantastic. I will post a picture for those who want. We did save a lot of money not replacing the cabinets, but painting and not changing the existing counter tops. The biggest expense was the flooring which we absolutely love! Thanks again for all the compliments!

makes a big difference! I don't like the original floors - the new wood ones are super! that tigerwood is beautiful. I think the black of the refridge also picks up on the ovens and counter top. I like it - plus having a place for the magnets.
and adding the hardware really snaps it up a step. looked naked before.

Punky -- Wow -- what an inspiration. It is so amazing what some simple things -- paint, knobs, wood, and creativity can do. Some people would have not had the vision of what they could do with those bones. Fabulous job! Enjoy. And oh, do I miss those magnetic letter days . . . .

Punky, I just LOVE your Tiger Wood floors so much. I also love the changes that you have made. Do you have anymore information about your knobs? I like the placement of them and the look with the white cabinets. Now the granite looks gorgeous with the painted cabinets.

lynn2006 - thank you for the compliments. As for the knobs, we bought them at Lowes in their hardware section. They are Amerock oil rubbed bronze handles and knobs. The knobs are the exact same one in the picture below. I couldn't find the exact handle on their website, but these are very close. As for placement, we used a cabinet hardware template that we also bought at Lowes. Hope that helps!

Is it too forward of me to ask what it cost to have the cabinets pro-painted? Did they paint them in-place and did they use a sprayer or rollers? I realize cost is relative to location, so also maybe tell us in which part of the country you are located.

busybme - we got 3 estimates ranging from $1000 - $2300. We went with the $2300 one because the gentleman who did it specialized in refinishing/painting cabinets versus just painters who painted everything. He also had his own warehouse were he sprayed the cabinets doors and drawers. The other painters were going to do everything on site at our home. Since our kitchen is a main focal point in our home, we wanted it to turn out beautifully! Hope that helps!!

If you didn't say that it the cabinets were the old ones refinished, I would have sworn it was all new. Congratulations! You have a great eye for seeing what the old could become. Enjoy many happy times in your new space.
