What kind of flooring can I put on my basement floor?????

I live in southeast Kansas and we get alot rain sometimes. I have carpet in my basement and when it rains alot moisture comes up through the hairline cracks in the concrete floor. Right now the floor is carpeted because we use basement as an office and a TV room. I was wondering if I should tile the floor instead of the carpet or if anyone had any suggestions??? The moisture is just enough to get some sections of the floor wet and the carpet damp, keep in mind that I don't have to wade thru water it's just a little wet.....Please help what should I do???

Depends on the type of furnace and the listing. Find the installation instructins and it will provide the 'rules' for the equipment. Most manufacturers have copies for even rather old items.

Vinyl products do NOT like anything soft/squishy underneath them. In fact they can separate or break their own edges if you have underpadding underneath. If the Pergo vinyl has an attached underlayment, then it is DEFINITELY NOT allowed to add anything else. This is NORMAL for vinyl. In fact it is a major drawback for all vinyl products. Underpadding is not allowed with 99.9% of vinyl floating/glue down/perimeter glue products. The installation instructions will tell you what is ALLOWED to be used. If it is listed then it is allowed. If you do NOT see it listed, then it is NOT allowed. It is an easy rule to follow. Continue with the rigid underlayment (like you did in the bathroom). The noise reduction from the attached underlayment is the only padding/accustic insulation you are going to get.

Of course but before doing it are you sure you want all those shelves to fill with a bunch of “stuff”I would remove all the shelves then I think thosecabinets can easily be taken out install the new floor hang the TV on one side and art on the other and keep the lower portion of the cabinetry for storage and of course to hide all the wires for the TV and all the other stuff that goes with the TV.

I agree. You need to get rid of the water first. In the meantime you need to get that carpet UP NOW. You could be growing black mold under there. Mold can make you sick big time.

Since youve had water problems I dont think Id ever put carpet back even if you think the water problem is corrected. If it were me Id do some kind of a finish/stain on the concrete itself. That way you could see the water right away and take care of it.

I forgot to ask. Do you have a sump pump. And have you checked your drainage around your foundation and your downspouts.

ditto w/the above posters

Just went through all of that w/our basement - start outside first - especially helpful while downpouring - you may be surprised how the water is flowing off the roof/gutters -
1. landscaping pitched away fr. foundation
2. preferably no large plantings near foundation - they will attract water
3. gutters properly attached, pitched, draining away from home
4. you could try filling the cracks in the foundation to see how that holds up -
5.sump if necessary

Waiting to see if your remedies work keeping moisture/water out before laying new flooring - in the interim get the carpet up/out and treat the floor -
