The cold is finally somewhat better, but the migraine is still blinding. I will not get a break with that until the weather clears. It's the 4th day. Bending over is still not an option. But at least I feel well enough to do SOMETHING. It was pretty much a "lost weekend". Today, I hope to find permanent homes for all the patio pots I brought in! Half are still on towels in the family room. Husband has not said anything yet, though that's the room he hangs out in, so obviously they are an eyesore. Yes, I have to be careful where I plant. A tentative trowel in, then see what's down there. I hate it when I skewer a bulb. Most of my reticulated iris died out, so I was so happy to find some at Menards, that I bought 4 packages. I'm lucky I really have been planting all along, until the last 2 weeks. Sounds like you are doing well, Sue. Working in stages is the best approach for me too. It does take a lot of extra time to cover the planting area with wire mesh and stake it down, but it means cheating the squirrels out of an costly snack at my expense, so I do it. I don't want to push it too late. The year I did it after Christmas, chipping off the top frozen crust to plant, almost nothing came up.

But I will say it hurt my heart to see our 40 year old site-built cabs being ripped out by DH who could have cared less to try to salvage as much as possible. Those cabs were in fabulous shape, despite my white paint and aged glazing technique from 1999. They had a lot of life left in them before demo, but they were laid out badly and the kitchen was too small. DH and his friend did salvage a drawer stack, doored lower, and the small floor to ceiling pantry cab. The pantry cab was picked up by the Restore guys, and I still smile every time I see the two lower cabs in the friend's kitchen as a makeshift island. I'm impressed by your DIY skills. It's a testament to them that the kitchen was still in such good condition these years later. Here's to not having a third reno! :)

Sue36 is right your best bet for your sink and your health is a water system. You don't need a lot of room. First find out where it comes in your apartment. If your lucky its near the hot water heater or a closet. A water treatment filter can be as small as a single carbon filter that you can buy from Wal-Mart. You can add 3 filters in series. Carbon ( for smell and taste) a cryptosprodium ( for organisms ) and a settlement cartridge, the whole thing would be about 18" wide 12" high and 6" deep. It could be cut into the input line and be removed after you move. If you can't do that then a simple carbon filter between the incoming and sink cold faucet can be added or much better a Reverse Osmosis under the sink, With that you can filter sewage water to drinkable depending on the number of stages. You can find them at HD and install your self.
