Comments (34)I realize this thread is 4 years old but wanted to add a note in case others are coming across it. To follow up on the conversation regarding methylisothiazolinone (MIT) and its related preservative compounds methylchlorisothiazolinone and benzisothiazolinone, in the years since this post, MIT has been classified as 2013 Allergen of the Year, and has been banned in Europe for leave-on products, and investigations are proceeding to find out if it can still be included in wash-off products at any safe level (no safe level has been found yet). In the US, however, despite some media attention there has been very little movement to restrict the usage of it in products. I've been running a community of those sensitized to MIT since 2012 and the growth has been exponential. One of the particulars is that MIT causes its own allergy through exposure, and it's magnified when people come in contact through multiple products. You can see some of the horrific pictures here: https://www.facebook.com/Allergy-to-Isothiazolinone-Methylisothiazolinone-and-Benzisothiazolinone-307128722674171/timeline/ It's particularly important for the home improvement industry to take not, as now 93% of house paints contain MIT, and 95% contain BIT. Airborne exposure, not previously considered, is horrendous for those who are allergic, and can cause significant reactions from respiratory to full-body rash to nervous system impact/muscle spasms. This is not trifling stuff, people - it's seriously dangerous and very little is being done about it. It's also in carpet glue, wallpaper adhesive and other liquid/gel products (and household cleaners and sprays, plus wipes)....See MoreWhat do you think? Daughter's Ex boyfriend won't leave her alone.
Comments (130)Silver Quite interesting reading. I have thought about EX and how he must feel about DD, or any woman that has been in his life. I do understand the conceptual thinking behind the term "limerance". I had a man that I felt that way about once. I never told him, figuring that if he felt anything for me he would approach me. There were a few mixed signals, I thought but he never made an attempt that was something that I knew for sure showed he was interested in me. He had enough chances to do that and he didn't. He thought of me as a friend or sister I guess. Or he would have gone for a little "roll in the hay" if I would have. He even introduced me to a girlfriend that he began dating and ended up getting her pregnant and they later married. Ouch! With EX's past ( if what he has said is true ) he undoubtedly has great fear of rejection. Again, if what he says is true, he wanted my DD to stay with him, build a future with him and he wanted a family with us. There are too many things though that are negatives to the success of their relationship that he is completely out of touch with which makes me think that he has a break with normal thought processes. This is evident with other actions...his extensive lying and his criminal behavior. My DD did not want to marry or have children ( my goodness, she is only 20 ) and he did. Very much in fact. I don't know that she will ever change her mind but he had said that he would rather have had her and no kids than to not have her at all. I don't know that it would have been something he could have easily lived with though. The age difference is something that was too vast....11 years...when dealing with her age group. Had they met when she was in her 30's or 40's or older then it would not have been as big a deal. I am sorry for him when it comes to honest, heartfelt feelings that he might have had for my DD. The fact that he could install such fear ( and continues to do so ) and the fact that he has told so many lies negates all of that though. It sucks to be rejected. Our family histories have a lot to do with whether or not we can process the rejection in a healthy way. Most of us have been and some of us have stepped over a line while dealing with it that we cringe at after having healed a bit. It is important to teach our kids that when they deal with peers or a romantic interest people have a right to reject them. In the long run it is for the best. I don't know how much EX has control over when it comes to his emotions about the breakup. I am sorry that I can't talk to him. It just can't happen. I want him to get help and to go onto have a happy life. More importantly though I want him to leave my DD alone and let her move on. Comments (11)Oy vey, braised chicken breast shanks anyone?! A classic example of how my "eye for details" NOT gets me in big trouble. I pulled out of the freezer what I thought was a big ol' hunk of frozen turkey thighs, and put it in a bowl of water to thaw while I made some cookies. Now I see that I have thawed three chicken breasts, which I had bought for a totally different purpose! Now I have to make them for dinner either tonight or tomorrow night, and tomorrow (Thanksgiving) BF and I had planned on dining on roast chicken! So that means I either have to make the turkey tomorrow and BF will have to have a less than favored meal for Thanksgiving, or serve chicken for dinner two nights in a row. LUCKILY, BF is a paragon of patience and tolerance, and a man who, in his own words, "knows what he likes and sticks with it" so I think it may be chicken both days. Just yesterday he told me that he could eat chicken for dinner every night of the week. I don't know if he was being sarcastic or not, be careful what you wish for! M-rivergirl you got that right! I don't know what I would do anymore without BF to help me keep track of my keys, shoes, mail and other necessities of life. On the plus side, I bring excitement into his life! :) And I may not have an eye for details, but I can remember the name of that movie, you know the one, with that actor, you know the one who is on that TV show, you know the one with that blonde actress that he likes . . . C'mon, you must know what I am talking about!! If I ever do manage to make the turkey thighs, I think I will use the Julia Child approved recipe linked below, with maybe some dried mushrooms thrown in that I have in the pantry. Then I can serve it with this apple-mustard braised kale recipe in my "to try" folder. Here is a link that might be useful: Braised lamb shanks...See MoreSound of Music live...what do you think so far?
Comments (29)I loved it. No static that I could hear. I absolutely love the Julie Andrews version and it was interesting to compare the two. It would be pretty impossible to improve on Julie Andrews but I think she did a great job for not being an actress and doing a live show. Giving Carrie Underwood a standing ovation....See Moreraee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio
