Freezer left ajar - eat or pitch contents?

While we were out of town this weekend, we had guests stay in our house. When DH returned he discovered that the freezer drawer had been left ever so slightly ajar. He did not check to see if items in the freezer were still frozen hard. He just closed the drawer.

I returned home today (Wednesday). Everything in the freezer is covered with frost and the light is burned out. I'm guessing that the drawer was ajar for about 30 - 36 hours.

DH thinks because there was frost in the in the freezer, everything ought to be fine. I'm skeptical. I checked things like a bag of peas, and they were not a solid lump, which would indicate to me that they had thawed and then re-frozen. They are still individual frozen peas.

What is the collective wisdom of this group? Should I pitch the food or do you think it will be ok?

By the way, my friends will never ever know what happened. They are dear people and I'm sure they would be mortified to know that they caused any problems at all.
