pink subway tile

Hi plk75, I love the warmth of your kitchen. I would choose something different than those warm tones for the backsplash to provide some balance. I see black in your granite, but that might be a bit too dark for a backsplash. Is there any gray? I have the opposite situation in my kitchen: white cabs and dark gray counters. I need some warmth and am going with a creamy gold crackle tile which echoes my red oak floors a bit.

How about a dark brown that is in the granite. And BTW I think brown and pink are beautiful together.

It is actually a peachy color, I think that the cream color in the granite makes it look pinkish in the pictures. With such a small kitchen, do you think a brown backsplash would be too dark? The granite does have black and grey in it too.

I think all dark brown would be too much...how about the creamier tiles with a dark brown accent...either some kind of border or little tiles interspersed...

If Ann Sacks is in the budget they have a lot of colors to choose from.

I like all of them, but think the 3rd picture is similar to what I am thinking. I was just cautioned about using subway tiles since my kitchen is long and narrow. The tile place said that I would be better with a 4x4 tile, either regular or on the diagonal. I am so confused, and afraid that I am going to make a wrong choice and end up hating it! Do you know the name of those tiles in pic 3?

I am sorry...I meant the 4th picture! I do want to put some brown accents in as well. I like how the 4th picture has the brown and burgundy color as well.

If you can, look at AZ Tile Tumbled Torreon, I think there are other brands of tumbled torreon. It has a warm undertone to it that I think will go well with your granite. I was going to use it but it ended up being too peach for my kitchen. Here is a pic of some samples I considered. The torreon is the subway sample in the pic:

We ended up going with AZ Tile tumbled camargo, but not sure if this color would go with your granite...

Those are subway tiles, did you mean the picture below that?
The 4 by 4 inch tiles?
Multi colored tiles above the range?

If you look at Tile Oasis, Tilewarehouse, The Tile Shop,
Modwalls, glasstile store, and even lowes you might find
a mix with colors that will work for you.

I meant the subway tiles, but maybe doing the 4x4 ivory/cream with a dark brown accent. The look of it is what I like. Thank you so much for posting all the those pictures! It is such a tough decision.

Have you visited Lowes or HD. They have accent tiles
which are not outrageous in price. Of course any tile
shop would have what you are looking for. And of course
matching with a tone in your granite is ideas.

Make sure to check out the thickness of the tile if using glass. Cheaper glass is thinner. I believe Ann Sachs doesn't manufacture the tile, but I can't recall who makes it for them. (At least not the glass.) If you check around you will see the product under other labels.

I think dark brown would be really pretty. It would be a nice contrast IMO.

plk-- apologies if this has been suggested: I think that's such an incredibly happening stone it might be hard to find something that did it justice or didn't fight with it. A dull color seems to wash it out, colored too! So I'm wondering whether you can get scraps of it to put in a low row of backsplash tiles of the same material? Your stove already has a built in BS, and the sink is far from the wall at that point (I really like that design - always have; I don't know why people don't put sinks at angles more often). So I think you could get away with a 4" - 6" strip of it in the back. Your curtains too are a similar sort of happening reddish color ... I see why you're stuck!

Sometimes commercial tile of the same sort of material is already available, if so maybe that could work, also just as a low strip though.

I am not partial to the curtains, they were a quick fix years ago. I plan on replacing them with something more tailored when I am done with the backsplash. I was thinking a cream color just to break up color, and it is safe. Just don't know if it will do any justice :( Since the granite, floor and cabinets are all similar. This is so stressful!

You might be able to get a beige/peach color. Two of my neighbors did just that. With one, it matched her granite which is similar in color but not as busy as yours. Her friend got the same tile and it somehow blends with her dark green granite.

Just not sure if I can stand anymore peachy colors in my kitchen. Between the cabinets and granite. Do you think shiny tiles or natural stone would be better?

plk75-if you are trying to tone down the peachiness, pick whatever color you like in your granite then pick a backsplash that complements that color. The backsplash I originally chose brought out a color in my granite that I didn't want to enhance. I wanted to bring out the browns so I chose a natural stone backsplash that had some brown variation in it.

Thanks...That is what I was thinking with the ivory/cream tile with a dark brown strip or accent tile. It does have some variation in it, but is very subtle. I just hope it is not too plain.

Your granite is the star, so a simple backsplash will be fine.

Do you think the tile on diagonal or straight would look better?

What size tile? 4x4? If so, what about something like boxerpup's 7th pic where there's a straight row at the bottom, then a liner, then diagonals? I've also seen 4x4 offset(like a brick pattern) which looked nice. Do you have a pic of the tile you have in mind?

Janealexa...yes, I was thinking a 4x4 tile. Originally I wanted stone subway tile, but was told that it would make my long narrow kitchen look even longer. So, then I thought I should go with the 4x4. I really like the style in the pic 7. Then thought...hmm, should I just do staight tile, with a liner, then staight again above. I have seen a lot of that lately. I think I may get a brown liner, just a bit of something in the backsplash. But not too much to compete with the granite. In my kitchen pics up top, I was thinking of doing the 4 left tiles. What do you think?

Hi plk75, I saw the other thread you started and I like the tiles you chose. Do keep in mind though that some tumbled travertine are more "holey" than others. The tumbled stone I chose did not have as many holes as other tumbled stone I've seen. I can't tell from your pic up top, but are they all tumbled stone? Are they equally "holey?" Also, the ones on the left look more peachy on my monitor compared to the others...in person are they peachy at all? On my monitor I think I like the middle 4 the best...

The tiles are a creamy color. It is called Light by Pietra...Florida tiles. I guess that some pieces might have a very slight peach undertone, but more ivory overall. I tried a few other creams and in my kitchen they cast a greyish hue, which did not look good at all. They are tumbled stone, and so far the displays and samples that I have gotten are not too "holey" I don't like that. A little bit is ok, but I have seen some that are very holey. The 4 tiles in the middle are actually just a part of the set of 8 to the right. They go from those nice warm colors, to very white, like the 3rd one in on the top row. That is what I wasn't crazy about...too much variation! I have not ordered any tiles yet, but the ones on the other post are what I was thinking.
