Kitchen backsplash...I am at a loss with color to go with granite
Comments (37)The tiles are a creamy color. It is called Light by Pietra...Florida tiles. I guess that some pieces might have a very slight peach undertone, but more ivory overall. I tried a few other creams and in my kitchen they cast a greyish hue, which did not look good at all. They are tumbled stone, and so far the displays and samples that I have gotten are not too "holey" I don't like that. A little bit is ok, but I have seen some that are very holey. The 4 tiles in the middle are actually just a part of the set of 8 to the right. They go from those nice warm colors, to very white, like the 3rd one in on the top row. That is what I wasn't crazy about...too much variation! I have not ordered any tiles yet, but the ones on the other post are what I was thinking....See MoreOh No.... I am not in Love with my new kitchen....
Comments (22)Good Morning! Can I just state again that you guys here are all the absolute, very, very best!! I appreciate all the advice and encouragement, it matters to me. Last night was a gut wrenching OMG moment and I automatically came here to sob out my misery to the board and you did not disappoint :) To put it in perspective, it basically looks like a cotton ball exploded in my kitchen. The ceiling is white and brand new since it was raised a foot. The DR walls were opened up so I have more light in the kitchen and they are a freshly primed white. My old medium oak cabinets were painted..... white! Our old floor has risen fron the dust and is finely covered in white from the spraying of the bottom cabinets. My old appliances are (you guessed it) white. My brand new recessed lighting gives off a heck of a lot of light as opposed to the lovely flourescent big box it replaced (the electrician is coming back to put in dimmers) and all that white is really startling to me. Granite goes in on Thursday then floors can be selected, which I know will help. I just had a real brain freezing moment last night and all that I have learned here just flew out of my head. As many have experienced and stated here as the planner, designer, whatever we call ourself, most times we are too, too close to the intimate details and we imagine all who see our choices must be thinking "whoa, what the heck was she THINKING??" DH came home and really thought it all looked great. He didn't want me to paint his solid wood cabinets and I was so certain he would regret letting me have my way. I think he likes it more than I do! We now have crown moulding from keeping old, shorter cabinets and that is an adjustment to see open space. Oh so many other things I can beat myself up about in the moment, so I better stop. I told DH at least I have digital pictures of what was.... so I can look back and remember why we wanted this change. Back to the boards, so many pesky details I haven't dealt with yet and I need inspiration that I find here so often. *Deep breath and pulling up my big girl pants* Time to get back to work! Thanks again, this has helped more than you can know :)...See MoreHow Can We Tell If It's The Granite We Picked.
Comments (38)Thank you for your kind words. The slab I posted in full sunlight doesn't begin to do it justice. I did not want to hijack your post with details of our own TB quest, but since you asked...... We originally saw 2 slabs of 2cm TB with the distinct gold veins and fell in love. All set to pull the trigger when we realized the slabs were not long enough to accommodate the 45 degree seam we wanted in the corner. Many more trips to stone yards to try to find oversized slabs with the same look. Finally fabricator located two 3cm slabs via online inventory at a stone yard we had already visited. The slabs were stacked behind something else and we had never seen them. We were not optimistic when we went to see them, but ecstatic when we got a good look. We reused our existing cabinets. I guess they are some version of oak (bordering on hickory?). I see lots of people here painting over them but we like them and they tie into the rest of our open concept home. This forum has been a godsend! After dragging home countless bs samples, "sandesurf'" to the rescue. She also has TB and possibly cabinet finish more like yours? She posted the picture attached of her bs. Crema Marfil. 2x4 beveled marble. Through Oracle Tiles Amazon storefront, I ordered a large sample for under $5. Hubby and I agreed and ordered for our bs. It just arrived yesterday and I am getting quotes for install. I'll post my own pic when completed. Very excited to have it wrapped up. Good luck to you! I predict once it's installed you will love your own TB. Every day since the install, I marvel anew how much I love it's movement and ease of cleaning....See MoreCan't match my granite, what other granite should I pick?
Comments (7)Thank you. I want to replace it to make it a little larger, it is still functional. Looking at the original floorplan of the house, the island was supposed to be 36 X 72, but the original owners made it 25 X 72, so I just want to have a larger island. I had previously seen a home with the same floorplan that had the original island size and I really liked the way it looked. I will probably have to have someone come and refinish the counters though bc there are nick and chips throughout it. Since we are adding the ledge already, I figured we should also do the island since the pricing is coming less than I had expected. Here is a partial closeup. I was actually taking a picture of the carpet, but it's the best one I have with no flash....See Moreenergy_rater_la
