Would you like to see this year's piece of miniature art?

It just came today, yay! I'm glad Fed Ex works Fed holidays!

I was lucky enough to be able to go to the Miniature Art Show last month and this is the piece I picked. Our budget was smaller than years past, so I only got to pick one, which was hard!

I couldn't believe this piece wasn't sold when I got there, the show had been open a day already. The artist, Jane Mihalik, is well known to us, we have 2 other pieces that she has painted, one was commissioned and has our old calico cat, Tess, in it. She won Best of Show with a different painting, but this one was my favorite. Even though Woody wasn't there to help pick it out, I was pretty confident that he would approve of it. Over 800 paintings were submitted to the show and a good many of them were sold by day 2.

The painting is about 3.25" square.

We hung it up next to another painting by the same artist, the one with our cat and the girl in the red slicker. I'll probably move it eventually, but at least it's up on the wall away from the terrorist cats!

Woody likes it! He likes it a lot. I've shuffled a couple of pieces around and I'm going to take my favorite cat painting upstairs for a while to make room on the wall for this new one. (Not that cat painting that you see, I call that one the "crabby-apple cat". lol)

I just thought you might like to see it. :)

I like it! Amazing how much detail the artist put in such a small space! Nice frame too. Great collection, Mingo.

I love the first and last stripe! I like the way the line draws your eye up and the last one is simple enough to not compete with the rug or the armoire. the one I picked was tough; there were so many that had your colors in them at Horchow! That one seemed to go more with your rug (which looked red, gold and brown on my monitor!)because it didn't have any green, but in the end I was thinking it had a subtlety that might work. having all of the colors represented is probably your best bet, though- it definitely brings your eye all the way around the room in a nice way. IMHO, you can't make your walls look too tall. Drawing the eye up is almost always a great thing. And I think some height will balance out the weight of the armoire as well. but only you can see how things look in person! clearly you have great taste!

Love it so much, I had to find more info. on it. It is an updated terrazzo "look". The large scale instantly made me think it was something "new". Googled around... lots of misses until I typed in large scale painted terrazzo floor. I also thought it might be something new and interesting done with inkjet printing for tile. Anyway, first link was for an article about terrazzo making a comeback only large scaled....at apartment therapy.... right there on the page, there it was...lol, it says in the text, "This is maybe a bit much, but there's something undeniably cool about this bathroom tiled in a designer terrazzo called Marmoreal by dzek." Haha... it being a bit much is exactly why I love it! It is called Marmoreal... and it is an engineered marble in resin... real marble. I followed the links and see that it is made in London.... also, got the feeling that it would be way out of my price range...yup. Found a cheese board made out of it..a stinking cheese board costs 250 bucks! I think RockyBird could do something absolutely fabulous with this Marmoreal for her new bath. The trees are dull up there-- that's it! What I couldn't articulate.. I've put the chair in my bedroom & really like it in there with the double matted Audubon in there now, Snookums. I'll get another shot. Junco, here is a pic I played around with adding the sconces. I would have to hang the picture to get more height & hopefully more presence. Olychick, hate dogs?!? I do see that the dogs don't have quite the presence that big bird has. Shee, I agree about the tree picture. It's a filler, not statement piece. Thank you Elizabethpa & pattixlynn- I'm glad y'all like them!! Im trying to work with what I have & not buy something just to fill a place. I would like to find something else for the FP, maybe another big Audubon- but having a party next weekend & can't have blank FP. I don't think my sconces will be here in time for the party:(

I tried to post and found all my air-dropped files were in a format that would not post. Will have to find time to redo them. But my art is so different -- some "fine" and a lot of contemporary and folk art. This was the only one that worked and I took it down towait, but in case I don't make it back (I am behind on an 8 week course and trying to get caught up) -- this will be my one contribution. This is titled Angels from Above and was painted in response to the attack on 9/11. It hangs in my LR where I have an Americana folk piece, a new still life that may not have found its permanent home and some other contemporary art. It's an eclectic grouping with the link being rich saturated colors. The sofa is midnight velvet and the chairs are natural linen, both treated as neutrals. The background is an inset above the mantle that was painted for another painting when this was in DR. It isn't terrible with the painting, but were painted the walls and now I want to pick a new color for the inset and different painting.

Patti, this one is 3.25" square, not including the frame. Maybe this can put it in perspective for you, in the 4th column from the left, on the bottom, that's a light switch, an ordinary sized single one. And yes, they're crooked a lot because Woody throws chunks of wood into the wood box on the left and all the paintings go wonky. lol Most of the paintings are larger than this new one, a few are smaller. None of them are more than 4.5 x 6.5". The biggest one is the one with the girl in the slicker.

Very nice Flamey. I love your collection. My sister painted some tiny pictures on some glass mushrooms her dh made a few years ago. There wasn't as much detail as your pictures, but she used a toothpick instead of a brush to paint them.

I just want some orange juice, thank you. :)
