but it costs nearly $400...so when we went and designed our new kitchen, we ordered a custom wine cabinet as well. will post pics when ready:)

Purchased from SmartBargains - their photo. It has a rust finish similar to my chandelier.

But I rely more on boxed wine, mostly from Australia, because bottled wine, especially red, oxidizes before I finish it.

We built one in our basement using terra cotta tile following having seen the concept several years ago on a TV design show. It keeps wine temperature uniform. We enjoy moderately priced reds and whites and generally keep a few reserves for that special occassion.

We built one in our basement too. We bumped out the foundation under the front steps and have a nice little wine "cellar". We bought the black wire racking from wine enthusiast. No frills, but space effecient and they hold more wine than we could dream of!

We're big cab and zin fans, although in the summer I'll switch to a Sauv Blanc. The owner of the store where I get my wines loves bargains, so we're always buying med priced. I just picked up two cases of "Nappa Valey Cabernet" for $5 a bottle. It's good for the everyday glass but I wouldn't serve it to guests with dinner.

While we have an Avanti under-the-counter model in our kitchen, the capacity (about 50 bottles) isn't enough to store all the wine we usually have in the house at any given time. To supplement the storage, I bought some steel containers from the Container Store and placed them in a downstairs closet. The closet has a tiled floor, so it doesn't get too hot in there. Each unit holds about 32 bottles. We keep the wines that we can "cellar" for a few years in the Avanti where the temperature is controlled, and the drink-now wines in the cubes. The cubes make great affordable storage.

I know very little about wine but when I was searching for some storage for wine (10-20 bottles) in our room under the front stoop, learned that decorative wine racks are not really what is best for wine. So, consider if you want to store the wine at the right temp and/or store it to decorate with. If you want to store it in a basement, it probably means less need to decorate with a rack.

I am in AZ - we have no basements, well, at least the vast majority of the houses have no basements. The temperature would be what the house is - 72 or so.

Ours is under the stairs - a previous owner built this rack under there. It's a good place. We don't have a basement either (no one does in Southern California - ground is way too hard). It's a useful item in an otherwise wasted place.

I am planning on putting one under the stairs as well. I will have to find a pic of that area. I wanted one that was decorative as well as good for the wine. Does that exist?

We usually have a few bottles of Chardonnay or Merlot around and I tend to have a glass of White Zin in at sunset.

We know nothing about wine, so we probably store it incorrectly. We have a very simple rack built into our kitchen. Red wine has always given me a headache, and the older I get, the more certain white wines do, too. One that I like and doesn't give me a headache is Bonnie Doon Pacific Rim Reisling. The bottle is pretty too! I also love a French white burgundy that a friend introduced me too; can't remember the name of it. Mostly, though, I love a good margarita!

Ours is nothing very exciting. It's just an antique bookcase from India that we've put a couple of wine racks into. I didn't want to give up any precious storage space in my kitchen, so the wine rack/bookcase is in our dining room. It works fine out there, although theres not room to hold very many. We also keep some of our white wines in a refrigerator in our garage. I pick up a few bottles every week when I shop at Trader Joes, as we have wine every night with our dinner.

We used to have a much larger wine rack but we decided to minimize the rack a bit so as to not distract from our new bar design.

Forgot to mention ... favorite wines are Mirasou Cabernet and a nice Argentine Malbec. Both are red wines.

I think your desired wine rack is goint to be determined by whether you are a serious wine drinker or not. If wine is more incidental, then there are all sorts of decorative wine racks you can use...but you should locate them so the wine is maintained at a constant, desired temperature, away from light and sunlight.

I'm a serious wine drinker and collector, so my wine racks are very practical, and are located in my unfinished basement. Each wine rack holds 110 bottles, and one is dedicated to reds (and almost constantly filled, as reds are my favorite), and the other is dedicated to whites, sparkling wines and champagnes. All of my bottles are labeled with hanging tags so I can more easily review and select the wine to serve. And the wines are kept a constant temps, and away from artificial or sunlight.

While not pretty, I love my wine racks because they help me organize my collection, and store it safely. You can purchase wine racks like this from Wine Spectator or any other catalog dedicated to wine accessories.

I have a couple of wine racks but for some reason, I can't seem to keep them full! haha! I put the bottles from one into the other for the pictures!
