I read the other responses, but this is what I would do... I would change out the blue color, maybe a limish green or a blue than is more similar to the blue in the bottom butterfly wings on the quilts or the background in one of your pictures. Obviously, not that bright, but more in that color tone. Painting the trim would make it more girlish, but I think you could make some other changes before making that decision. If you have it in your budget to buy fabric, I would cover your beds in a solid color fabric to make the quilts pop more. Try hobby lobby for some cute wall decor. Last year, I found an adorable glittery wood wall letters that said "kisses" in the valentines section. It goes perfectly in my 5 year olds room. I would hang something like that above each of their beds. The dresser needs something cute on it. A little grouping of bears, blocks, picture frames or just something more decorative. You could paint some butterflies on one wall with just a few small pints of sample paint. You can get these at Sherwin Williams for $5 each in their cans designed to help you decide on a color and you can mix them in any of their colors. It would add a lot of pizzazz to the room, and a butterfly shape is pretty simple shapes put together. I would then add some cute basic curtains, maybe in a solid color. Yes, this is definitely a temporary fix, although there are many temporary fixes still hanging on 5 years later around here, so I'd like to make the most of it in case this ends up being a 5 year project. I do enjoy symmetry, but it's not necessary if other layouts work out better. I've been doing some shopping around just to see what might work and compare bunk beds and look at trundles. A neighbor stopped by last night to make our weekly goods trade and we were discussing beds, and she mentioned she had bought a day bed with a trundle that can be locked in a raised position to make a king for her spare bedroom. My sister-in-law mentioned futons, which would be easy to move around and could fold up to couches when they needed the floor space, but I'm not sure how great they would be for sleeping in every night. noellabelle- my kids love camping out too! They've been camping in the tipi at my in-laws all summer. Their room turned out great, and like you, I want something they can grow into. While they all love the frilly princess pastels and playhouse beds now, my oldest is already showing signs of outgrowing the look. I think I can do a more modest look they can enjoy for years to come, and can hopefully reuse most of it when they move to their future bedrooms. geokid-I've been looking at the TV cabinets as well. There are hundreds on CL this week. I like the idea of having one for each child too. I'm keeping my eyes out, although dh is not excited about trying to get them upstairs. We had to knock out the closet at the top of the stairs to get our mattress up there lol. bostonpam- I will definitely check out the Ikea system. Even if it won't work in this room, I'd like to put some type of storage in the laundry room/entry. I'm kind of curious as to how many of you have children who share or have shared a bed in the past. How long did they share a bed? I don't want for them to feel forced to share a bed if they don't want to.If I could get away with two beds for now, the girls would have a lot more floor space which would be nice at their ages now and I could satisfy my need to hide the clutter with more storage. nosoccermom- I love those hanging beds! I want one for our bedroom lol AnnieDeighnaugh- I hadn't considered hanging curtains or fabric over the clothes. That would be such a simple fix even until we get everything straightened out! I think I will gather up all of our curtains and try to make something work today!

Do you know about meetup.com? Look it up online -- you find people with similar interests -- I found French conversation, my neighbour joined people who want to speak Italian at dinner. Cooking, reading, dancing, nature, so many interests. Sometimes only 3 people in the group. It opens your pool of acquaintances and maybe you'll find friends. You can choose activities by distance from your home. I myself am fortunate. I live in the city and a neighbourhood with longtime coffee shops. There are about 6 of us who have coffee at varying times, sometimes planned, sometimes on the spur of the moment. Sometimes all 6 but usually just one or two. I have lived here for thirty years and though it's a big city, the neighbourhood feels like a small town. Could you try joining some community improvement association? I wish you some easy-to-get-together friends!

So I also am a "lay person" and the minute I saw your window, I knew it wasn't a standard window well. I would be very nervous having this contractor and his company work on my house; his lack of attention to detail and what, to me, would be basic construction knowledge/observation, is very concerning. Most of us who have been working in a field for many years can tell something basic at a glance (I work in healthcare and do this unconsciously every minute of every day whether I'm at work or not). I would expect the same from him. Agree with some of the comments that indicate this: "What do you want to happen? At the very least you should determine whether $7600 is a reasonable cost for the increased difficulty." Also, I hate to tell you this, but you WILL need to become educated in construction/remodeling methods. UNLESS you have a truly honorable, detail-orientated contractor, you WILL need to learn when something does NOT LOOK RIGHT. Yes, yes you hired a professional assuming they will do what is supposed to be done. Never assume, trust me. These forums are filled with people who have assumed and now are desperate to find a solution that doesn't involve breaking the bank or redoing a project. If they are working on any wet rooms, I'd be sure to pour over the waterproofing plan they have and READ UP ON THE SYSTEM THEY PLAN TO USE. Take PICTURES along the way--every day that they work on a bathroom (no matter who does the work) take pictures.

I didn't see pics the first time, but the second time I opened this thread, the pics were there. Weird.

The room is just darling, and you did a great job. Oh my your little one is precious! I'll bet she's very excited about her "new" room.

Awesome! Could I bring my Dolly and have a Tea? I thought this was so adorable that I sent it to my DD, who is in the finishing process of their new home, and DGD's room. I know my little Audrey would be thrilled to have your room, even I would be happy there!!

Well first, who cares about the room..that little chic is adorable :) Just a sweetie!!

Ok the room...it's wonderful. Definately a little princess fantasy, and if you know me, you'd know I think kids rooms should be total fantasy. You've done a really lovely job!!!! I bet she just adores her special place!

What a darling room for a little darling!! My daughter just finished her twins' rooms and I noticed the end table in your room. My husband is actually making that same table for our GD as well as another one sports themed for GS.

Where did you find such a beautiful table and chair set? We will be looking for one shortly too.

We bought the table chair set from costco a couple of years ago. Not sure if they still carry it now.
